	Mabel C. Goings SPRINGFIELD – Mabel C. Goings, 88, died Aug. 5, 2000, at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield. She was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Rockingham, daughter of Clarence and Gertrude (Nichols) Carey. She attended Springfield schools and graduated from Springfield High School in 1929. She married Austin P. Goings in Springfield on March 28, 1931. Mrs. Goings was a teller and bookkeeper at the Vermont National Bank in Springfield for 17 years, retiring in 1976. In earlier years she worked for the Lawrence and Wheeler Insurance Co. and the Springfield Telephone Co. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Springfield and treasurer of the church Memorial Fund for 10 years. She was also a member of the Church Administrative Council and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose and the Springfield Senior Center. Her hobbies included arts and crafts, crocheting, knitting and reading. Survivors include three sons, Carl W. Goings of Springfield, Paul C. Goings of Ludlow and Ralph E. Goings of Perkinsville; a daughter, Pauline G. Ellison of Ludlow; a sister, Gladys Coburn of Springfield; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1959; five brothers, Herbert Carey, Robert Carey, Leslie Carey, Floyd Carey and Bernard Carey; and two sisters, Marion Cutler and Rachel Abbott. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Springfield by the Rev. William Scherwerts, pastor. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel. 	Richard E. Dufresne BENNINGTON – Richard E. "Rick" Dufresne, 44, died Aug. 8, 2000, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. He was born in Bennington on May 27, 1956, son of the late Winfred and Marion (Knights) Dufresne. He was educated in Bennington schools. Mr. Dufresne married Deborah Weeks on Aug. 11, 1984, in Bennington. He worked for various construction firms and at Southern Vermont Orchards. His also worked for the town of Bennington. Mr. Dufresne was a former member of the Bennington Fire Department. He was active in sports with both the Bennington Little League and MAYAA football. An avid outdoorsman, his hobbies included hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Dufresne of Bennington; a son, Jeremiah E. Dufresne of Bennington; five sisters, Theresa Mattison of Burlington, Deborah L. Dufresne of Pownal, Patricia Luczinski of North Adams, Mass., and Rose Marie Gabert of Bennington; six brothers, Winfred Dufresne Jr., Stephen Dufresne, Robert Dufresne, Timothy Dufresne, Christopher Dufresne and Armond Dufresne, all of Bennington; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Dufresne was predeceased by a sister, Sherri Ann Dufresne, who died in 1966. The funeral will be held at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Friday at 11:30 a.m. with Deacon Penny Hawkins of St. Peters Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be held in the Woodford Cemetery. 	Mary E. Fitzgibbons CAVENDISH – Mary E. Fitzgibbons, 77, died Aug. 8, 2000, at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow. She was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Cavendish, daughter of Edward Sr. and Etta (Johnson) Fitzgibbons. She attended schools in Cavendish and graduated from Black River Academy in Ludlow in 1941. She worked for Gay Brothers Co. as a clerk in the finishing department and Margolins in Brattleboro. She later was a caregiver for the elderly in their homes. She was a member of the Cavendish Baptist Church for 68 years, a Sunday school teacher for several years, assistant Sunday school superintendent and a member of the choir. Her hobbies included reading, writing letters, music and playing dominoes. She wrote a book of poems which was published. Survivors include two brothers, Edward W. Fitzgibbons Jr. and Russell J. Fitzgibbons, both of Cavendish; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Cavendish Baptist Church. 	Peter N. Louras Peter N. Louras, 77, died August 8, 2000, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Rutland, son of Nicholas C. and Amalia (Alexandrides) Louras. He graduated from Rutland High School. He married Madeline Piccini on Feb. 27, 1949. Mr. Louras owned and operated Louras’ Store on West Street for 43 years until his retirement in 1989. He served in the Army Medical Corps in England during World War II. Mr. Louras was active in community affairs, serving as a member of the Rutland City Board of Alderman and the Rutland City Planning Commission and was a justice of the peace. He was also a member of the Rutland American Legion Post 31, the Rutland Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 648 and the Rutland Elks Lodge 345. Mayor John P. Cassarino proclaimed Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, as Peter N. Louras Day. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Peter N. Louras Jr. of Orinda, Calif., and Dr. John C. Louras of Rutland; two daughters, Andrea Edwards of Rutland and Stephanie Gaston of Newtown, Conn.; two brothers, Gus Louras and Nicholas Louras of Rutland; four sisters, Despina Louras and Marie Frisch of Rutland, Antoinette Candello of Keene, N.H., and Georgia Bartlett of Cambridge, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Louras and Kuriakoula Carignan; and a grandson. A private funeral service and burial will be held on Saturday. 	Otis H. Mullen RUPERT – Otis Henry Mullen, 85, former resident of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, died Aug. 8, 2000, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y. He was born April 19, 1915, in Pawlet, son of Barney and Anna (McKeighan) Mullen. Mr. Mullen worked for Mudgetts Mink Farm and the Vermont State Highway Department. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. Survivors include seven sons, Barney Mullen and Daniel Mullen of Arizona, Norman "Pete" Mullen of Whitehall, N.Y., Timothy Mullen of Granville, N.Y., Michael Mullen of Pawlet, James Mullen of Hampton, N.Y., and Joey Mullen of West Pawlet; six daughters, Deborah Samson, Mary Girard, Mona Lisa Cruiz and Pam Dousette of Arizona, Joanne Hysmith of New Jersey and Esther Daignault of Utah; three sisters, Mary Ingram of North Creek, Jennie Carver of Rupert and Anna Roberts of Granville; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the McClellan Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Mychack. Burial will follow in the Rupert Cemetery. 	Barbara P. Davis MIDDLEBURY – Barbara P. Davis, 52, died Aug. 9, 2000, at her home after a battle with cancer. She was born Oct. 24, 1947, in Augusta, Ga. She moved to Vermont when she was 2½. She attended Twinfield High in Marshfield. She worked for the Counseling Service of Addison County at the Evergreen House in Middlebury for 15 years, helping hundreds of people recovering from mental illnesses. Her hobbies included long walks and classical music. Survivors include two daughters, Bobbi Jo Leddick of Swanton and Leslie Davis of South Burlington; a son, Don Davis Jr. of Bristol; three sisters, Polly Bartee of Virginia, Sandy Shusda of Hinesburg and Debbie Hutchins of Delaware; her stepfather, Lawrence Hutchins of Plainfield; four stepbrothers, Michael of Seagrove, N.C., Daryle Seagrove of Burlington, Bryce Seagrove of Colchester and Bradley Seagrove of Vergennes; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Mark Page, who died during the Korean War; and her mother, Helen Hutchins, who died in 1997. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol. 	Robert E. Graf PAWLET – Robert E. Graf, 84, died Aug. 9, 2000, at his home in Rupert. He was born Nov. 5. 1915, in Rupert, son of Georgianna (Leach) and Robert Graf. He graduated from Mt. Hermon in 1934 and St. Lawrence University in 1938. Mr. Graf served for 24 years in the Vermont Legislature representing Rupert, Pawlet and Wells and was a justice of the peace. He was vice president of Soil Conservation and past president of Vermont Farm Bureau. A mason and shriner, he was a member of Modern Woodman of America, the Bennington County Regional Commission and the Lady Bird Johnson Beautification Project. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lois (Rees) Graf; three daughters, Marcia Russo, Vicki Graf and Cindi Roberts; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel in the Mettowee Valley Cemetery in Pawlet by the Rev. William Johnstone. A reception will be held at the Graf home after the service. There will be no calling hours. 	Dorothy E. McColgan Dorothy Edna Powell McColgan, 74, of Rutland, died Aug. 9, 2000, at the Mountain View Center Genesis Eldercare Network after a long illness. She was born May 3, 1926, in Rutland, daughter of Arthur and Mabelle C. (Crowley) Powell. She graduated from Rutland High School in 1944. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Norman Johnson. Survivors include several cousins. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Mechanicsville Cemetery in Belmont by the Rev. T. Daniel VanLuven, pastor of the Assemblies of God Roadside Chapel.
	Theresa P. Sheehan Theresa P. Sheehan, 61, of Rutland, died Aug. 9, 2000, at Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Whitehall, N.Y., daughter of William and Annie Mae (Blongy) Clark. She graduated from Rutland High School in 1957. She married John J. Sheehan at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Rut-land in 1976. Mrs. Sheehan worked for the Factory Outlet in both Rutland and Fair Haven and was a bookkeeper at the Coca Cola plant for 19 years and at DellVeneri’s Bakery, owned by her husband, for 15 years. After the sale of the bakery, she continued working there as a sales clerk. Her hobbies included reading and vacationing in Maine. Survivors include her husband of Rutland; a brother, Charles Clark of Rutland; a sister, Lorna Battles of Rutland; several nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Rutland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. 	Frances L. Clark ORANGE, MASS. – Frances "Frannie" Lou Clark, 55, died Aug. 10, 2000, at the Heywood Hospital in Gardner after a long illness. She was born April 9, 1945, in Hanover, N.H., daughter of Raymond N. and Barbara E. (Sherman) Young. She attended grade school in Tunbridge, Vt. and South Royalton High School. She married Freeman Edgar Clark at Tunbridge Congregational Church on April 25, 1964. Mrs. Clark worked at Merrimaids in Randolph, Vt., for more than 20 years. She moved to Orange where she has lived for the past eleven years and worked for the State of Massachusetts at the Templeton Development Center for the Mentally Handicapped. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. She was very talented in floral crafts and in 1999 awarded first place at the Tunbridge World’s Fair with one of her exhibits. Survivors include her husband of Orange; a son, David Clark of Bethel, Vt.; a daughter, Sherry Tabor of Braintree, Vt.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Young of Tunbridge and Will Young of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Tunbridge Congregational Church in Tunbridge by the Rev. Douglas Moore. Burial will follow in the Spring Road Cemetery in Tunbridge. 	Marjorie R. Frulla WARRENSBURG, N.Y. – Marjorie R. Frulla, 93, of Warrensburg, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Glens Falls Hospital. She was born Sept. 22, 1906, in Benson, Vt., daughter of Gilbert and Lora (Barber) Root. She married Everett Frulla on June 17, 1939 in Fair Haven, Vt. Mrs. Frulla was an elementary school teacher for many years. She taught in Dorset, Pawlet, and Rupert, Vt., and retired from Warrensburg School District. She was also the secretary with the Everett Frulla Lumber Co. in Warrensburg for many years. She was a longtime member of the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church and was a member of the pastoral committee. She was an avid reader and enjoyed many types of literature. Survivors include her husband of 61 years; a nephew, John Kubin, and his wife of Benson, Vt.; two sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law, and many cousins. Calling hours are today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. 	Lawrence P. "Soup" Letourneau BETHEL – Lawrence P. "Soup" Letourneau, 74, of Bethel, died Aug. 10, 2000, at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was born Oct. 20, 1925, in Barre, the son of Ernest and Antoinette (Assisi) Letourneau. He attended school in Bethel, and lived most of his life there. Mr. Letourneau was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served aboard the U.S.S. Rutherford. He married Helen Alberico in 1947, in Bethel. Mr. Letourneau worked at Bethel Mills and Dean’s Garage in Bethel, and at Coca-Cola Co. and Green Mountain Distributors in Rutland. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed local and major league sports, hunting, dancing and visiting with family and friends. He helped to coach women’s softball in Bethel. Survivors include a son, Peter A. Letourneau, of Morrisville; a daughter, Karen A. Letourneau of Windsor Locks, Conn.; two sisters, Rose Curtis of Bethel and Alice Kopy of Falmouth, Mass.; his ex-wife, Helen Healy of Rutland; and 11 grandchildren. Two sons, Lyn and Paul; and a brother, Albert, are deceased. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Randolph Center. The Rev. Kent Lipka will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph. 	Marguerite Lockwood BELLOWS FALLS – Marguerite Lockwood, 87, died Aug. 10, 2000, at the Springfield Hospital in Springfield. She was born Jan. 17, 1913, in Norfolk, Va., daughter of Bernard and Annie B. Ahman. She attended schools in Greensboro, N.C. and Goucher College in Baltimore, Md. She married Harry B. Lockwood Jr. in Baltimore on Sept. 28, 1939. Mrs. Lockwood worked for the Federal Land Bank in Maryland for 10 years. She was a member of St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls, St. Philip and St. James Church in Baltimore and Sacred Heart Church in Towson, Md. She enjoyed reading mystery stories and doing word puzzles and was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles. Survivors include her husband of Bellows Falls; and a son, William Lockwood of Bellows Falls. Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Brian Mead. Burial will follow in Baltimore. 	Evelyn W. Peterson BENNINGTON – Evelyn Watson Peterson, 81 died Aug. 10, 2000, at Prospect Nursing Home in North Bennington after a long illness. She was born April 1, 1919, in Bennington, daughter of Joseph and Bessie Watson. She graduated from Bennington High School and attended Bennington College. She married Edwin W. Peterson in Bennington on Oct. 26, 1940. Mrs. Peterson was a manager at Sears Roebuck store in Bennington during the 1940s and later was head teller at the First Vermont Bank for several years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and an enthusiastic supporter of the Oldcastle Theatre Company. She was an avid walker and enjoyed reading. Survivors include four sons, Stephen W. Peterson of Leonardtown, Md., Eric W. Peterson of Bennington, David R. Peterson of Waterbury and Mark W. Peterson of Alpharetta, Ga.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Peterson was predeceased by her husband; a sister, Lurana Pineau; and two brothers, Robert Watson and Raymond Watson. A memorial service is planned for Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Bennington. There will be no calling hours. 	Mary I. Petitt POWNAL – Mary Irene (Card) Petitt, 97, died Aug. 10, 2000, at the Crescent Manor Care Centers in Bennington. She was born Oct. 22, 1903, in Pownal, daughter of Hattie (Montgomery) and Arthur Card. She married Thomas Petitt in Bennington on Jan. 13, 1926. Mrs. Petitt worked for the New England Telephone Company as an operator in Bennington and ran a boarding house for several years. She was a member of the Pownal United Methodist Church. Her main interest was her home and family. Survivors include two sons, William Petitt of Sebring, Fla., and Robert Petitt of Pownal; two daughters, Virginia Jean LaCroix of Pownal and Jo-ann Hanson of Melbourne, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1961; a brother, William Card; and a great-grandson. Friends may call Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington, by the Rev. Gaylord Campbell. 	James C. Severance PROCTOR – James Charles Severance, 69, of Proctor and formerly of Bridgewater, died Aug. 10, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction. He was born Oct. 21, 1931, in Pittsfield, son of Walter E. and Cora Severance. Mr. Severance was educated in Pittsfield. He worked for the Killington Corp. in the maintenance department for 23 years. Survivors include a son, Charles E. Campbell of Barnard; a grandson; a granddaughter; a sister, Sandy Adams of Bethel; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Severance; and two sisters, Laura and Gail. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Bridgewater by the Rev. 	Katherine M. Brubaker BENNINGTON – Katherine M. Brubaker, 92, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000. Mrs. Brubaker was born in Arlington, Mass., on Jan. 5, 1908, the daughter of the Frank and Mary Ada (Spooner) Maltman. She received her education in Arlington. Mrs. Brubaker lived for many years in Pepperell, Mass. She is the widow of William E. Brubaker. She was a registered nurse in Pepperell for many years. In the 1960s, she retired and moved to North Bennington. She was an avid reader and enjoyed bird watching. She traveled extensively and lived for a long time in the Philippines when her husband was employed by Olivetti Typewriter Company. Mrs. Brubaker is survived by several close friends. Her services will be held privately at the family lot in Walton Cemetery in Pepperell. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
	Cecile A. Dodge SPRINGFIELD – Cecile A. Dodge, 89, died Aug. 11, 2000, at Integrated Health Services in Claremont, N.H. after a long illness. She was born Sept. 29, 1910, in Springfield, daughter of Joseph and Bernice (Keith) Leavitt. She attended Springfield schools and graduated from Springfield High School. She later went on to attend nursing school at the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Mass., and earned her Registered Nurse Degree. She married William R. Dodge in New York on June 22, 1935. Mrs. Dodge was employed at the Springfield Hospital as a Registered Nurse for several years and later worked as a private duty nurse for several years. She and her husband spent their summers in the Lake Willoughby area, where she enjoyed fishing. Her other hobbies included sewing, crocheting and bird-watching. Survivors include four sons, Robert L. Dodge and Joseph R. Dodge of Perkinsville, John L. Dodge of North Springfield and Mark B. Dodge of Croyden, N.H.; a sister, Blanch Mulligan of Brewster, Mass.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1991. The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield by the Rev. Constance Moser, pastor of the Ascutney Union Church. Burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery later in the week. 	Cathy A. Favreau MANCHESTER – Cathy A. Favreau, 39, wife of Dan Favreau, and a resident of Manchester since 1987, died Aug. 11, 2000, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. 	Catherine A. Favreau MANCHESTER – Catherine A. Favreau, age 39, of Manchester, Vermont, and formerly of Glastonbury, Conn., died Friday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2000, following a courageous battle with leukemia at Fletcher Allan Health Care in Burlington, Vt. Cathy was born in Hartford, Conn., May 24, 1961, the daughter of George and Irene (Radziwanowicz) Adamson. Cathy spent her childhood in Glastonbury, Conn., and attended local schools. She went on to attend the University of Hartford and graduated with the class of 1983. Cathy moved to Manchester in 1987. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years at the Sox Market in Manchester. On October 4, 1997, Cathy was married to Dan Favreau. Cathy enjoyed going on long walks, attending sporting events and dancing with Dan. She especially loved the time she spent reading with her children and attending family gatherings. She will be deeply missed by her family and the many friends she touched throughout her life. In addition to her husband and parents she is survived by her two sons Paul, 11, and John, 9; a stepson Danny, 7; a stepdaughter Lindsay, 6; Cathy’s three sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Mark Santostefano of Glastonbury, Conn., Diane Adamson and Russel George of Ashford, Conn., and Mary and Jeff Tracey of Danbury Conn.; Cathy’s three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeffrey and Karen Adamson of Tolland, Conn., Kenneth Adamson of Glastonbury, and Thomas and Theresa Adamson of Newington, Conn.; 13 nieces and nephews; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Ben and Marie Anne Favreau of Bath, Maine, her stepmother-in-law, Cathy Favreau of West Bath, Maine; and in-laws Suzie and Tom Regan of Andover, Mass., Debbie and Ross Nadeau of Richmond, Maine, Sally and John Finnemore of Waltham, Mass., Mike Favreau of Augusta, Maine, and Gail Favreau of Boston, Mass. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Cathy’s life on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Manchester Village. 	Lawrence P. Letourneau BETHEL – Lawrence P. "Soup" Letourneau, 74, of Bethel died Aug. 11, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was born Oct. 20, 1925, in Barre, son of Ernest and Antoinette (Assisi) Letourneau. He attended Bethel schools, and was a lifetime resident of Bethel except for living in Rutland for 10 years during the 1960s. Mr. Letourneau married Helen Alberico in Bethel in 1947. He worked for Bethel Mills, Coca-Cola and Green Mountain Distributors in Rutland and Dean’s Garage in Bethel. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the USS Rutherford destroyer. Mr. Letourneau was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed sports and hunting. Survivors include a son, Peter A. Letourneau of Morrisville; a daughter, Karen A. Letourneau of Windsor Locks, Conn.; two sisters, Rose Curtis of Bethel and Alice Kopy of Falmouth, Mass.; his ex-wife, Helen Healy of Rutland; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Lyn Letourneau and Paul Letourneau; and a brother, Albert Letourneau. Services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Randolph Center by the Rev. Kent Lipka. 	John M. Moriarity BENNINGTON – John M. Moriarity, 77, died on Aug. 11, 2000, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. He was born in Hartford, Conn., on Sept. 25, 1922, the son of James Patrick and Mary E. (Pelcher) Moriarity. He received his education in Connecticut. Mr. Moriarity lived in New York City, where he was a restaurateur. He also lived in Mexico and Cullman, Ala.. For the last six years, he lived in Bennington. Mr. Moriarity was an accomplished architect, and his work has been displayed around the world. For the past 11 years he was employed by Wal-Mart in Cullman and Bennington, and served as their community development director. Mr. Moriarity was an accomplished guitarist and also sang with the Bennington Chorale Society. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Bennington; by four daughters, Patty Murray of California, Cindy Bishop of Oakland Park, Kan., Melanie Murphy and Lizabeth Moriarity, both of Bennington; two sons, Paco Moriarity and Jose Moriarity, both of Bennington; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. 	Elizabeth F. Rector WHITE RIVER JUNCTION – Elizabeth F. Rector, 76, died Aug. 11, 2000, at her home. She was born June 15, 1924, in Lebanon, N.H., daughter of Raymond and Florence (LaCourse) White. She graduated from Lebanon High School. She married Walton D. "Dolly" Rector in Lebanon on Aug. 21, 1943, where they lived until moving to White River Junction in 1950. Mrs. Rector worked at Doc’s Cabins on Mascoma Lake, which were owned by her parents, and as a teller at the First Twin State Bank in White River Junction for 17 years, retiring in 1987. After her retirement she volunteered at the Dothan Brook School in White River Junction helping third grade teachers and at the Bugbee Senior Center. Mrs. Rector was an active parishioner at St. Anthony’s Church. Survivors include her husband of White River Junction; three sons, David W. Rector of White River Junction, Raymond D. Rector of Essex Junction and Jeffrey A. Rector of Shelburne; a daughter, Susan E. Hough of Grantham; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis White of Hanover, N.H.; a sister, Luraine Leddy of Manchester, N.H.; several nieces and nephews. 	Patrick J. Slattery Patrick J. Slattery, 59, of Rutland died Aug. 11, 2000, at Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Rutland, son of James P. and Mary Anne (Devaney) Slattery. Mr. Slattery was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy and attended Castleton State College in Castleton. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was employed by Tuttle Law Print, the Rutland Herald and Central Vermont Public Service. He was an independent consultant for CVPS, Vermont Yankee and other companies. He worked for the American Cancer Society where he appeared on Channel 15 and, most recently, was the editor of Sam’s Good News and the U.S. Census Bureau. He began at the Rutland Herald in 1964. He was a reporter and city editor before leaving in 1973. He returned to the Herald for a time during the 1980s, when he worked on the copy desk. When he was a reporter at the Herald, he covered the Police Department as well as city affairs. After becoming city editor, he wrote a column for the editorial page, which was called "Across the City Desk." He had a strong interest in politics and ran as a Democrat for state representative in Rutland District 6-1 in 1992. He also was a former vice chairman of the Rutland City Democrats. Mr. Slattery was a member of Immaculate Heat of Mary Church, the Loyal Order of Moose and the Elks Lodge 345. Survivors include a son, Matthew P. Slattery of Rutland; a sister, Colleen S. Mitchell of Brandon; three brothers, James P. Slattery Jr. of North Brunswick, N.J., John "Jack" Slattery of South Burlington and Michael R. Slattery of Rutland; several nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Franka (Amato) Slattery, who died in March 2000; and his father, John P. Slattery Sr., who died Aug. 2, 2000. The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. 	Vivian A. DiNatale SPRINGFIELD – Vivian A. DiNatale, 88, of 80 Main St., died Aug. 12, 2000, at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 3, 1912, in Newport, the daughter of Ovide and Emma (Boulet) Vanier. She attended Newport schools, and later lived in Boston, Mass. She married Joseph DiNatale in 1933. He died in 1965. Mrs. DiNatale worked as a sales clerk in several department stores in the Boston area for many years. She moved to Springfield in 1984, and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church there. Survivors include two sisters, Beverly Robbins of Meridianville, Ala., and Geneva Burke of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Church in Springfield. The Rev. William Chant will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Springfield. 	Mildred W. Miller DORSET – Mildred W. Miller, 80, of Dorset and formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died Aug. 12 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center. She received her education in Tennessee and graduated from Memphis State University. She is survived by a sister, Mary Ruth deCordova of Glendora, Calif.; and a brother, John Shelby of Memphis. Mrs. Miller was predeceased by her husband, Elam Miller. The funeral service will be held Saturday at the Memorial Park Funeral Home and Mausoleum in Memphis. 	Herbert H. Ranney WINDSOR – Herbert H. "Hink" Ranney, 85, died Aug. 12, 2000, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital & Health Center in Windsor. He was born Feb. 16, 1915, in Springfield, son of C. Raymond and Susan R. (Hinkley) Ranney. Mr. Ranney attended school in Springfield and the Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Mass. He married Mary Wilson in St. Johnsbury on Oct. 31, 1936. They moved to Windsor in 1944. His wife died in 1957. He was employed at the Cone Automatic Machine Company in Windsor from 1944 until his retirement in 1973. He married Barbara Nelson on Jan. 26, 1987, and they operated the Hi-Hollow Orchard in Windsor, where they sold apples and cider for several years. Mrs. Ranney died in 1996. Mr. Ranney was a member of the American Society of Tool Engineers, the Windsor Area Chamber of Commerce, and was a member and past president of the Windsor Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, skiing and bowling. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia R. Dow of Hartland and Debra S. Rowley of Reading; a son, Michael Ranney of Cornish, N.H.; a sister, Harriet Tetzlaff of Burlington; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A brother, Albert Ranney, predeceased him. The funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, with the Rev. David B. McIlhiney officiating. Burial will follow at Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
	Paul B. Whitcomb WINDSOR – Paul B. Whitcomb, 81, died Aug. 12, 2000, at the Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born Aug. 24, 1918, in Barnard, son of Abel O. and Winnabel (Pike) Whitcomb. He attended school in Barnard. He worked on local farms before serving in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. After his discharge from the Army, he worked at the woolen mill in Northfield and then for area woodworking mills. He also worked at Renehan Akers Building Contractors in White River Junction as a carpenter for several years before retiring. He moved to Windsor 30 years ago; he also lived in Ryegate and Hartford. He married Viola Darling in 1964. He was a member of VFW Post 2571 and Hartford American Legion Post 26, both in White River Junction. Mr. Whitcomb enjoyed driving oxen, hunting, woodworking and gardening. He was predeceased by his wife; a brother, Weston Whitcomb; and three sisters, Ruth Falzarano, Helen Whitcomb and Laurenza Whitcomb. Survivors include an adopted daughter, Diane Dery of Worcester, Mass., a sister, Anna Washburn of Bethel; grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, with the Rev. Carter Adriance, pastor of the Rachel S. 	Paul F. Ashley BRANDON – Paul Francis Ashley, 88, died Aug. 13, 2000, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury. He was born April 18, 1912, in Middlebury, son of Frank T. and Sarah Ashley. He received his education in the Middlebury schools. Mr. Ashley served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army in Europe and Germany during World War II and was awarded the Silver Star. He returned to Rutland County and taught school for 26 years, five years at Brandon High School and 21 years at Otter Valley Union High School, retiring in1978. Survivors include a son, Paul Ashley of Reading, Mass.; a daughter, Nita Louise Corrigan of Merrimack, N.H.; six grandchildren; a nephew; and a niece. He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline; and two sisters, Helen Hanlon and Evelyn Kinard. A graveside committal service and burial will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon by the Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church. 	Alice F. Cote   SPRINGFIELD – Alice F. Cote, 90, died Aug. 13, 2000, at her home in the Pillsbury Manor Apartments in Burlington. She was born Feb. 11, 1910, in Lancaster, N.H., daughter of Francis and Olivine (Bilodeau) Nadeau. She attended schools in Lancaster and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1927 as valedictorian. She was married to Alcide "Al" Cote on Sept. 16, 1938, in Lancaster. Mrs. Cote worked for the Farm Bureau office in Lancaster for several years. In 1940 she and her husband moved to Springfield, where they owned and operated the Springfield Bakery for more than 50 years. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, the Springfield Quota Club and the New England Retail Bakers Association. For the past five years, she and her husband made their home in Burlington. Survivors include her husband of Burlington; a daughter, Anne Highleyman of Treasure Island, Fla.; three sons, Alcide "Pete" Cote Jr. of Springfield, Armand "Joe" Cote of Essex Junction and Andre Cote of Manassas, Va.; a sister, Doris Derosier of Lancaster; two brothers, Donald Nadeau of Chester and Hubert Nadeau of Lancaster; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. 	Myra B. Nelson   FAIR HAVEN – On Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, Mrs. Myra B. Nelson left this earth after a short courageous battle with cancer. Her spirit lives on through all who knew her. This gentle woman faced her short cancer battle with courage, dignity and humor. She was born in Saugus, Mass., daughter of the late Ralph and Rebecca (Foley) Orrell. Mrs. Nelson was a Licensed Nurse’s Aid involved with Hospice Care and private duty nursing throughout the New Hampshire seacoast before relocating to Vermont in 1995. While residing in Vermont, Myra was employed in Hospice nursing with Easy Transitions of Rutland, Vt. Myra is survived by her husband, whom she has been married to for forty-eight years, Mr. Wallace S. Nelson of Fair Haven; her two daughters, Charlene Doane of Poultney and Glenda Hammond of Clayton, N.J.; her two sons, Wallace S. Nelson III of Alamogordo, N.M. and John Nelson of Blacksburg, S.C.; her four sisters, Marjorie Childs of Texas, Arleen Marcotte of New Hampshire, Kathleene Carda and Dottie McKenna, both of Oregon; her four brothers, Harold McDonald of Canada, Francis McDonald of Massachusetts, Charles Orrell of California and John Orrell of New Hampshire; her eight grandchildren, Donald and Rene Doane, Sean Morrissey and Heather Moore, Wallace and Christine Nelson, Jennifer and Jessica Nelson, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Pauline Marston; and her three brothers, Rayburn McDonald, John McDonald and Joseph McDonald. 	June K. Parry   CHESTER – June K. Parry died at her home Aug.13, 2000, after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Parry was born June 12, 1939, in Springfield. 	Walter E. Savory   ALSTEAD, N.H. – Walter E. Savory, 92, died Aug. 13, 2000, at the Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Mass. He was born May 21, 1908, in Alstead, son of George and Harriet (Jackson) Savory. He attended schools in Alstead. Mr. Savory was married to Dorothy M. Brown on Sept. 3, 1933, in Alstead. He worked for the Frank W. Whitcomb sand and gravel plant until his retirement in 1956. Survivors include his wife of Alstead; a son, Richard Savory of Derry; two daughters, Shirley Haskins of Alstead and Marilyn Come of Charlestown; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. 	Irvin C. Tifft Sr.   BENNINGTON – Irvin C. Tifft, 63, of Bennington died Aug. 13, 2000, at his residence. He was born in Bennington Jan. 24, 1937, the son of the late Thomas L. and Dolly (Stone) Tifft.   Mr. Tifft received his education in Bennington schools. He married the former Nancy Murphy in Bennington on June 20, 2000. He was employed at the Bijur Lubricating Company. Mr. Tifft was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.   He was an active member of VFW Post 1332, where he served as commander and quartermaster. He was also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 1861, where he was a past president and trustee.   He enjoyed hunting and fishing.   Survivors include his wife, Nancy Tifft of Bennington; five daughters, Brenda Feshal of Bozeman, Mont., Anita Blockburger of Hebron, N.Y., Tina Tifft, Michelle Tifft and Lisa Lown, all of Bennington; two sons, Irvin C. Tifft Sr. of Bennington and Steven Tifft of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; five stepdaughters, Wanda King of Shaftsbury, Nannette Foucher, Cathy Yarnall and Ramona Corelli, all of Bennington, Donna Sherman of Dorset; three stepsons, Tyronne Gaudette and George Foucher of Bennington, Richard Foucher of Mesa, Ariz; 35 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Vollar of Bennington, Shirley Lohan of Las Vegas, Nev., Alice Colburn of Granville, N.Y., and Lillian Bourn of Shaftsbury; three brothers, Norman Tifft of Catheridge, N.Y., Theodore Tifft and Edward Tifft, both of Bennington; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.   Mr. Tifft was predeceased by two sisters, Alberta Dorman and Lorraine Goshen, and by three brothers, William Tifft, Wallace Tifft and Lawrence Tifft.   The funeral will be held Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home. 	Linda S. Bement   BEAVER MEADOW – Linda Smith Bement, 48, died Aug. 14, 2000, at her home. She was born April 17, 1952, in Lebanon, N.H., daughter of Byron Joseph and Thelma (Reed) Smith. She graduated from Hartford High School in 1970 and attended Lyndon State College. She was married to William "Jay" Bement in North Hartland on Aug. 19, 1978. Mrs. Bement worked at Polaroid in Boston for a time before returning to the Upper Valley, where she worked at the Holiday Inn in White River Junction. She was also employed at Rich’s Department Store in West Lebanon, N.H., until 1980. She later worked at Luminesense, now Astronics, in Lebanon, where she earned a certificate for employee of the month in September 1999. Survivors include her husband of Beaver Meadow; a daughter, Jenna Bement of Beaver Meadow; a son, Jason Bement of Beaver Meadow; a maternal grandmother, Gladys Reed of Jeffersonville; three brothers, Gary Smith of West Hartford, Eric Smith of Massachusetts and Bryon "Joey" Smith of Tennessee; a sister, Valerie Smith (Doe) of Canaan, N.H.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. 	Vivian E. Fredette   Vivian Elizabeth Fredette, 83, of Rutland, died Aug. 14, 2000, at the Genesis Mountain View Center. She was born Feb. 10, 1917, in Rutland, daughter of Arron and Essie (Stone) Fredette. She made her home in Rutland in 1975, when she moved from Danby, Vt., where she was a member of the Danby Congregational Church. Mrs. Fredette was employed by the Foley Laundry Co. in Rutland for several years and Bushee’s Bakery until her retirement. Survivors include two sons, Robert Fredette and his wife Diane Fredette and Ronald Fredette of Rutland; four sisters, Frances Wilder of Chippenhook, Madeline Colvin and Gealdine Sherman of Tinmouth and Anna Doty of Rutland; three brothers, Richard Fredette Sr., William Fredette and Donald Fredette; a grandson, Michael Ruprecht of Rutland; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Fredette; and a sister, Shirley Colvin. Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home in Wallingford. Burial will follow in the Danby Scottsville Cemetery by the Rev. Lawrence Jenney. There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to a local Boy or Girl Scouting organization in the area you live in.
	Lena Leonard   BENNINGTON – Lena Leonard, 89, died Aug. 14, 2000, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation after a long illness. She was born in Ravia, Italy, on March 17, 1911, daughter of Victor and Margaret Dassatti. She came to the United States at an early age and received her education in the North Adams, Mass., schools. She was married to Edgar H. Leonard on March 31, 1929, in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. Mrs. Leonard had been employed at the Holden Leonard Co. in Bennington and the Polygraphic Co. in North Bennington. Her hobbies include crocheting and embroidery. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy of Scotia, N.Y.; a brother, Virginio Dassatti of Cohoes, N.Y.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband in 1987. The funeral will be held Wednesday at noon at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home with a prayer followed by the service at 12:30 p.m. by the Rev. William H. Kelley, associate pastor. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal. Friends may call Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. 	Myra B. Nelson   FAIR HAVEN – Myra B. Nelson died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are pending with the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home of Poultney. Theresa P. Sheehan Rites Funeral services for Theresa P. Sheehan, 61, who died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, were held Saturday, Aug. 12, with the Rev. John Herbert officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery. Helen Davidson was vocalist. James Cassarino was organist. Bearers were James Eggleston, Andrew Notte, Jaime Harrington and David Ladabouche Sr. Prayer services were held Friday evening at Clifford Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hebert.
