April 1
Philip E. Bailey Rites

WHITE CREEK, N.Y. – The funeral service for Philip E. Bailey, 58, who died Wednesday, was held Saturday from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor of the North Bennington Congregational Church, officiated.

Members of the Vermont Army National Guard, 42nd Infantry Division, formed an honor guard during the service.

Members of Harned Fowler VFW Post 1647 in Manchester, American Legion Post 90 in Arlington, Bennington Moose Lodge 1223, Mount Anthony Lodge 13, F&AM and the North Bennington Fire Department conducted services Friday.

Private committal services will be held at Rosewood Cemetery in White Creek, N.Y.

 


Walter A. McLaren Jr. Rites

RUTLAND – Memorial services for Walter A. McLaren Jr., 76, of Rutland, who died March 23, 2000, at his home, after a long illness, were held Saturday at St. Peter’s Church. The Rev. John Herbert, parochial vicar, officiated, assisted by ministers of the altar, Jim Davidson, Al Flory and Joseph Tilden.

James Cassarino was organist. Helen Davidson was vocalist.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 648 color guard members Louis Choquette, Perley Lozier, Lary Belgoini, William Drake and Dave LaVoice and American Legion Post 31 color guard members Jack Allen, LeRoy Norse, James Burke, Gary Fitzgerald and George Zsido provided military honors. Mr. Fitzgerald presented the flag to Mrs. McLaren. Mr. Zsido sounded taps.

The Aldous Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James R. Crowe

BENNINGTON – A memorial service for James R. Crowe, 47, a former resident of Bennington, who died March 11, in Tampa, Fla., will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington. The Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be held in White Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Therena Crowe of Manchester; a brother, Thomas J. Crowe Sr. of Bennington; an aunt, uncle, nieces and cousins.

Contributions may be made to the Second Chance Animal Center, in care of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

Florence S. Robbins

HAVERHILL, N.H. – A memorial service for Florence Smith Robbins, 94, who died Dec. 28, will be held April 8 at 2 p.m. at the Piermont Congregational Church.

Contributions may be made to the Piermont Public Library or the Piermont Congregational Church, Piermont, N.H., 03779.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hale Funeral Home in Bradford, Vt.

 

April 29
Stanley A. Richmond rites

SPOFFORD, N.H. – The funeral for Stanley "Amos" Richmond, 71, who died April 23, was held Friday at the Chesterfield Town Hall. A private burial will be held at a later date.

He was born Dec. 31, 1928, in Tunbridge, Vt., son of Harry F. and Hyla (Knight) Richmond.

He served in the U.S. Navy in Korea.

Mr. Richmond was a forklift operator for MacMillin Co. in Keene for 32 years.

He was a volunteer for People Helping People and was an avid fisherman, hunter and farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 49 yeas, Arlene (Buckley) Richmond of Spofford; two sons, Stanley A. Richmond of Spofford and Russell Richmond of Keene; two daughters, Hyla Smith of East Swanzey and Barbara Doyle of Spofford; a brother, Dick Richmond of Keene; two sisters, Bernadine Garrapy of Springfield, Vt., and Eloise Besaw of Alstead; a stepbrother, Irving Eaton; two stepsisters, Mildred Jarvis of Ascutney, Vt., and Cynthia Eaton of Fair Haven, Vt.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard Richmond and William Richmond; and two sisters, Mary Richmond and Wilma Bushey.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Spofford Fire Department, P.O. Box 136, Spofford, 03462, or Hospice, 69 Island St., Keene, 03431.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Cremation Society of New Hampshire and Manchester.

 

April 30
Wilma Bickford Rites

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION – The funeral service for Wilma "Billy" Bickford, 66, of White River Junction, who died Tuesday, was held Saturday at the Timothy Frost Methodist Church in Thetford Center. The Rev. Bertha Brown officiated.

Organist was Gerry Palmer.

Burial took place in Evergreen Rest Cemetery.

Hale Funeral Home of Thetford was in charge of arrangements.

 

Dorothy P. Seward Rites

The funeral service for Dorothy P. Seward, 83, a longtime resident of East Wallingford who died Wednesday, was held Saturday at St. Mary’s Mission Church in Mount Holly. The Rev. Joseph Quinn, CSC, pastor, officiated.

Reader was Debra Frohloff.

Organist was Dianna Garrow.

Vocalist was Elise Bushey Cassarino.

Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Quinn officiating.

Bearers were Thomas French, Walter Lanzelin, Art Seward, David Seward, Buster Seward and Michael Seward. Honorary bearers were Arthur Crowley, Kenneth Fish, John Cadwell, Herbert LeGuern, Kenneth Rolph and Vincent King.

Contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Ladies Society, in care of Debra Frohloff, Centerville Road, East Wallingford, 05742.
