	Jean P. North BRATTLEBORO – Jean Pressley North, 75, formerly of Simsbury, Conn., died Sunday at the home of her son in Houston, Texas. She was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Haynesville, Maine, daughter of Warren and Effie (Karnes) Pressley. She attended local schools and graduated from Ricker Junior College in Houlton, Maine. She married John A. North on June 13, 1953, in Hartford, Conn. Mrs. North attended St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Brattleboro and was a member of the Hill and Dale Club and the Ames Hill Association. While living in Simsbury, she was president of Simsbury Auxiliary Child and Family Services. She was a Canvasser for the Heart Association, Salvation Army and the American Cancer Society. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a member of the PTA and the Mountain Laurel Chorus of Sweet Adelines. Survivors include her husband; two sons, John A. North III of Pleasant Valley, Conn., and Sterling A. North of Houston; a daughter, Susan A. Flynn of Camden, Maine; a sister, Verna L. Wittman of Florida and Vermont; a brother, Warren H. Pressley Jr. of Florida and Maine; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 8, at 3:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. 	C. Boynton Camp BARNARD – Funeral services for C. Boynton Camp, 81, who died March 14, 2000, at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct., were held Saturday at the St. James Episcopal Church in Woodstock. The Rev. Beth Hilgartner, interim priest, officiated. The Rev. William P. Gallagher, pastor of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, assisted. Lester Gibbs was organist. Linda Dunworth was soloist. Larry Roberts was verger. Dr. Hugh Hermann offered words of remembrance and Deacon Ken Money, a nephew, read the lesson. Burial followed at the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock. The Ora E. Paul American Legion Post 24 provided military honors. Fred Doubleday was chaplain, Kelly Spear was bugler. Former Commander Rupert Leonard presented the flag to the family. The Rev. Cannon Donald Boyer, of St. James Episcopal Church, officiated at family prayers Friday at the Cabot Funeral Home. Members of the Woodstock Masonic Lodge 31 F&AM members Donald Wheeler and Fred Doubleday provided a Masonic service Friday. The Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock was in charge of arrangements.

	Ashlinn E. Barrett Ashlinn Elizabeth Barrett, infant daughter of William P. Barrett and Sarah L. Rumrill, died Wednesday at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. Survivors include her parents of Rutland; a stepbrother, Dylen Barrett of Clarendon; paternal grandparents, Cherly Blaisdelle and William Barrett, both of Rutland; maternal grandparents, Patricia A. Odell of Rutland and Alan C. Rumrill Sr. of Salem, N.Y.; maternal step-grandfather, Augustus R. Odell of Rutland; maternal great-grandmothers, Valma Rumrill of Rutland and Florence Odell of Vergennes; and paternal great-grandfather, Charles Barrett of Poultney. The funeral will be held Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery

	John H. Currie CHARLESTOWN, N.H. — John Henry Currie, 76, of Charlestown, died Thursday at Springfield (Vt.) Hospital. He was born March 22, 1923, in Springfield, son of William C. and Louise B. (Billings) Currie. He was a graduate of Springfield High School.He was raised in Springfield and had lived in Charlestown for the past 25 years. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Currie retired in 1985 as a technical sales engineer after 42 years with Fellows Corporation in Springfield.He was a member and past member of St. John’s Lodge 41 F&AM of Springfield, a member of Faithful Lodge 12 F&AM of Charlestown, American Legion Post 37 of Bellows Falls and the Congregational Church of Acworth on the Hill. Survivors include his wife of Charlestown; three daughters; two stepchildren; a brother, grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held in Pine Crest Cemetery in Charlestown at a later date.There will be no calling hours. The Stringer Charlestown Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
	Josephine M. Forcucci Josephine Mary (Henderson) Atwood Forcucci, 74, of Rutland died Thursday at her home. She was born May, 15, 1925, in Newbury, daughter of Knox and Mary Belle (Abbott) Henderson. She was a graduate of Newbury High School in 1943. She was married to Jordan F. Atwood Jr. in 1943, and moved to Crescent Orchards Farm in Orwell in 1948. They operated the IGA Store in Orwell during the 1960s. She was married to Joseph Forcucci on Aug. 2, 1971. Mrs. Forcucci was a pianist and keyboard player since the mid-1950s. She played in Preaeau’s Orchestra and Johnny Blackburn’s Band. She formed the "Starlighters" with Bob Case, Angelo Rovelli, Jim Rovellis and Carl Mudgett. She, along with her husband Joseph, changed the name of the band to "Just Us" and played in Florida, at many clubs in the Rutland area and at the Somewhere Restaurant in Fair Haven. Mrs. Forcucci was a past high priestess of Airoc Court 42 of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, past president of Lake Worth BPO Does, Drove 146 of Lake Worth, Fla., and was a member of Rutland American Auxiliary Post 31. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra A. Greeley of Galax, Va., and Elaine A Duval of Mendon; three sons, Philip Atwood of Plainville, Ga., Jordan Atwood and Leon Atwood, both of Proctor; two stepdaughters, Patricia Gussey of Saratown, N.Y., and Deborah Farina of Herkimer, N.Y.; a stepson, Anthony Forcucci of Coralville, Iowa; four sisters, Jean Richardson of North Haverhill, N.H., Hazel Downing of Lunenburg, Patricia Renfrew of Bradford and Margaret Smith of Seymour, Conn.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Katherine Howard of Mendon and Florence Cross of Danville; a brother, George Henderson of Newbury; and a granddaughter. The funeral is pending and will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Rutland. Burial will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery. 	Rhona P. Hannum BRATTLEBORO – Rhona Maxine (Patterson) Hannum, 96, died Thursday at the Thompson House Nursing Home in Brattleboro. She was born Aug. 5, 1903, in Winchendon, Mass., daughter of Daniel and Ada Patterson. She graduated from Brattleboro High School in 1922 and the University of Vermont in 1924. She taught in the 1920s at such places as Putney’s No. 5 schoolhouse and the Austine Institution for the deaf in Brattleboro. She married David B. Hannum of Putney on June 25, 1927. He died in 1993. Mrs. Hannum was the subject of a Rutland Herald Vermont Sunday Magazine profile, "A Woman of the Century," on Mother’s Day 1998. Survivors include two sons, David Hannum Jr. of Putney and Alden G. Hannum of Williamsburg, Va.; a daughter, Martha H. O’Connor of Brattleboro; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 	Rosa E. Harty BELLOWS FALLS – Rosa E. Harty, 77, died Thursday at McGirr Nursing Home in Bellows Falls. She was born March 26, 1922, in Bellows Falls, daughter of Damon E. and Nettie (Clark) Stanford. She graduated from Bellows Falls High School in 1940. She married Kenneth Harty on Feb. 6, 1942, in Bellows Falls. Mrs. Harty worked as a clerk at JJ Newberry’s for 20 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bellows Falls. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carol Ann Burnes of West Springfield, Mass., and Judith E. Belden of Fair Haven; a sister, Gertrude Frohock of Bellows Falls; four children; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Florence LaBonte, Clara Bushway and Doris Clark; and a brother, Raymond Stanford. The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Bellows Falls. 	John H. McGraw GRANVILLE, N.Y. – John Henry McGraw, 72, died Thursday at the Rutland Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was born March 24, 1926, in Granville, son of William and Gertrude (Dennison) McGraw. He was married to Elsie (Priest) McGraw for 51 years. Mr. McGraw joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served during World War II. He worked for Telescope for 32 years, many of those years as night watchman. Mr. McGraw enjoyed country music, playing musical instruments, fishing and lawn sales. Survivors include his wife; six sons, Michael McGraw of Argyle, Rickey McGraw of North Granville, David McGraw, James McGraw and Douglas McGraw, all of Granville; Gerald McGraw of Rutland, Vt.; eight daughters, Margaret L. Jones of Fort Edward, Patricia Bradway of North Creek, Kathleen Hoyt of Granville, Janet McGraw of Manchester, Vt., Ann David of Truthville, Jacqueline Buck of Rupert, Vt., Sharon Alkurabi of Troy, and Paula Mead of Poultney, Vt.; 35 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond McGraw of Granville and Oscar McGraw of Puerto Rico; four sisters, Jennie Hudy, Marion Redmond and Maxine Dickenson, all of Granville and Alice Stannard of Rutland; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth, William and Donald McGraw; and a sister, Doris Saunders. The funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, by the Rev. Hunisker. Burial will be held in the spring in Elmwood Cemetery in Middle Granville. 	Robert K. Bent BRANDON — Robert K. Bent, 80, died Friday at Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury after a long illness. He was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Lincoln, son of Morton and Louise (Kelton) Bent. He was an avid outdoorsman. Survivors include a sister, Margery Wyman of Brandon; two brothers, Daniel Bent of New Sharon, Maine, and Lewis Bent of Corinth, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by a brother, Edwin Bent, and by a sister, Margaret Bent. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Burial will take place in Maple Cemetery in Lincoln.Friends may call Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. 	Roland D. Besaw WINDSOR – Roland D. "Stub" Besaw, 73, died Friday at his home in Windsor. He was born May 8, 1926, in Westfield, son of Delos and Ruby (Stannard) Besaw. He attended school in West Barnet and Littleton, N.H. He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II serving in the South Pacific. He married Sylvia Wentworth on Nov. 23, 1945, in Windsor. Mr. Besaw worked for a short time driving trailers out of Littleton and then worked as a guard at the former Vermont State Prison in Windsor. He later worked for Park & Pollard Grain Co., and most recently at Cone Automatic Machine Company in Windsor, retiring in 1988, after 37 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 25 in Windsor. Survivors include his wife of Windsor; four sons, Roland Besaw in Glenn Allen, Alaska; Wayne Besaw of Plastow, N.H., Robert Besaw of Windsor and Dennis Besaw of Charlestown, N.H.; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Ronald Besaw of Lisbon, N.H.; three sisters, Vena Sweet of White River Junction, Elizabeth Sweet of Mount Vernon, N.H., and Alrene Defosse of Lancaster, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor by the Rev. Paul N. Belhumeur. Burial will be held at a later date in Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor. 	Lyba B. Cohen Lyba B. Cohen, 83, of Rutland, died Friday at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.She was born Oct. 23, 1917, in Valk, Latvia, daughter of Chaim and Sarah Bell. She was a May 1999 graduate of Lehman, CUNY, with a bachelor’s degree in humanities.Mrs. Cohen was raised in Astonia. She was a pioneer in the Zionist Youth movement in Israel. She was a social service worker in the New York City Welfare Department. She was an active member of the Rutland Jewish Center and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Survivors include two sons, Barry Cohen of Rutland and Boaz Cohen of Shrewsbury, N.J.; and two grandchildren.The funeral service will be held Tuesday at noon at the Tossing Funeral Home. Rabbi Solomon D. Goldberg will officiate. Burial will take place in Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, N.J. 	Elizabeth Hogan CHATHAM, N.J. – Elizabeth Hogan, 83, formerly of Bristol, Conn., and Hartford, Conn., died Friday at King James Care Center in Chatham. She was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Rutland, Vt., daughter of Dennis E. and Elizabeth (Moon) O’Shea. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph’s Academy in Rutland and from Castleton State College in Castleton, Vt. She taught for three years in Bennington, Vt., before moving to Bristol in 1941. During the war years she was supervisor of the three Child Care Centers in Bristol. In 1950 she became the first grade teacher at St. Joseph School in Bristol for a number of years before moving to Hartford in 1960. Mrs. Hogan was active in the Democratic Women’s Organization and was honored as Democratic Woman of the Year in 1968. She was a director of the Bristol Visiting Nurse Association, a member of the board of directors of the Bristol Child Care Center, a Bristol Justice of the Peace, and commissioner on the Bristol Health Board for a number of years. Survivors include a son, Patrick Hogan of Morristown; a brother, Francis O’Shea; two sisters, Teresa Davis and Mary Clossey; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A prayer service will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Avenue, Forestville, followed by the funeral Mass at St. Gregory Church at 10.m. 	Ruth A. Montgomery SHAFTSBURY – Ruth A. Montgomery, 99, a former resident of Shaftsbury, died Friday in Cartersville, Ga., where she had lived since 1955. She was born in Jan. 7, 1901, in Shaftsbury, daughter of Benona and Sally (Brown) Harrington. She attended school in Shaftsbury. Mrs. Montgomery had worked for the former EZ Mills. Since living in Georgia, she had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Cartersville and the Sunshine Group at the church. At the time of her death, Mrs. Montgomery was the oldest living church member. She enjoyed cooking. Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn McMillan of Cartersville, Dorothy Mattison of Bennington and Joyce Hightower of Cedartown, Ga.; a sister, Thelma Vandale of Bennington; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Rupert L. Montgomery, who died in 1952; three brothers, Jesse, Robert and Byron Harrington; and a grandson. The funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church by the Rev. Cass Gilbert. Burial will be held in Shaftsbury Village Cemetery. 	John R. Roberts ASPEN, Colo. – John R. Roberts, 30, of Aspen died Friday at Highland Bowl. He was born Oct. 14, 1969, in Holyoke, Mass., son of Ronald and Ann Roberts. He was a graduate of Fair Haven (Vt.) Union High School. He later graduated from Johnson & Wales University in 1989 with a degree in culinary arts. Mr. Roberts was head chef of Krablooniks in Snowmass, from 1991 to 1999. Survivors include his mother and father; three brothers, Stephen Roberts, Andrew Roberts and James Roberts; and a sister, Karen Howell. Arrangements are under the direction of the Farnum-Holt Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs.
	Burnetta E. Russ BETHEL – Burnetta E. Russ, 92, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and formerly of Bethel, died Friday at the Heritage Court Nursing Home in Scottsdale. She was born July 4, 1907, daughter of Theodore and Mattie (Cassidy) Norman. She was raised by William and Gertrude Vesper and Nina Davis of Royalton. She attended Royalton schools and was a nanny for area families. She had also done sewing for Van Raalte of Randolph and was a caretaker for people in their homes. She married Harold E. Russ on Oct. 7, 1924, in Royalton. He died in 1986. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, embroidery, cooking and playing cards. Mrs. Russ had been a resident of Arizona since 1972. Survivors include a son, Stanley W. Russ of Bethel; two daughters, Veda Storto of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Shirley Gates of Tempe, Ariz.; a brother, Delmar Norman of Montpelier; three sisters, Hildred Wells of Rutland, Ruth Hayes of Montpelier and Jean Seckington of Northfield Falls; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Eugene Russ; two daughters Iva Blow and Irese Orticari; three sisters, Irene Simpson, Hazel Carter and Helen Quero; a brother, Theodore Norman; and a granddaughter. 	Violet R. Swarm BOMOSEEN — Mrs. Violet Rose Swarm, 66, died Friday morning at Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 24, 1933, in McKeesport, Penn., the daughter of the late George and Claire (Fleming) Wolsarth.Mrs. Swarm was a graduate of McKeesport Technical High School in McKeesport, Pa., and furthered her education by taking various college courses. After graduating, Violet became employed as a licensed beautician. She eventually earned the position of manager in the shop where she worked, supervising 32 licensed beauticians. On Feb. 17, 1956, Violet married John M. Swarm and the two moved to Dunellen, N.J. While residing in Dunellen, Violet was very active in the community. She worked within the Dunellen School system, was a member of the Dunellen Methodist Church and was head of various youth groups within the church. Violet also served as a Girl Scout leader for several years and was a founding member of the Juvenile Judiciary Committee, was a member of the Booster Athletic Club and also was active in supporting the Little League programs. Upon their retirement in 1990, the couple relocated to Bomoseen. While living in Bomoseen, Mrs. Swarm became a member of the Hubbardton Congregational Church and was also an avid bingo player. She is survived by her husband, John of Bomoseen; a daughter, Linda Rae Peltier of Benson; two sons, John M. Swarm of Kansas City, Mo., and Scott J. Swarm of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Thelma Jones, who died in 1962. There will be no visiting hours.Memorial services will be conducted Monday, March 20, at 2 p.m., at the Hubbardton Congregational Church. The Rev. Charles L. Knight will officiate. Following the services, the family will receive relatives and friends at the church. Burial will take place later in the spring in Hillside Cemetery in Castleton. 	Lawrence E. Gevry ADDISON — Lawrence E. Gevry, 85, died Saturday at his home. He was born Nov. 28, 1914, in Actonvale, Quebec, Canada, son of Valmore and Angela (LaFontaine) Gevry. His family moved from Canada when he was 14 years old. He attended school in Addison and Vergennes. He was a longtime dairy farmer in Addison until his retirement in 1996. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Cecile (Leframboise) Gevry; a daughter, Joyce Tarte of Addison; five sons, Roger Gevry, David Gevry and Rheal Gevry, all of Addison, Leo Gevry of Bridport and Bernard Gevry of North Ferrisburgh; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; four brothers, Gerard, Louis, Paul and Robert Gevry; nine sisters, Colombe Cousineau, Bridget Cousino, Yvette Field, Alice Cousino, Aline Kirk, Claire Aube, Susan Gamache, Joanne Dusten and Cecile Young; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Roland. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Church in Vergennes. Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery. 	Robert F. McLellan EAST POULTNEY — Robert "Tim" Francis McLellan, 67, a longtime resident of East Poultney, died Saturday at the Sager Nursing Home in Fair Haven after a long illness. He was born Feb. 7, 1933, in Chippenhook, son of Cecil B. and Mary (Lubinski) McLellan.He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1953 to 1957 with the Paratrooper Division. He was a mechanic for several automobile repair shops in Rutland County. He was a member of J. Claire Carmody Post 39 American Legion of Poultney. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.Survivors include his mother of East Poultney; a son, Timothy McLellan of Poultney; two daughters, Kim Charron of Fair Haven and Dede McLellan of Poultney; a sister, Barbara Moriglioni of Rutland; seven grandchildren; aunts, uncles; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father; a sister, Jorena McLellan; and an infant brother, Cecil McLellan Jr.The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave., Poultney. 	Hollis E. Peck EAST HEBRON, N.Y. – Hollis E. Peck, 84, a resident of Hebron since 1945, died March 18 at his home after a long illness. He was born Dec. 20, 1915, in Londonderry, Vt., son of Guy and Flora (Warner) Peck. Mr. Peck was a sawyer who had worked for Shushan Bentwood and Arch Craig’s sawmill in Hebron. 	Victoria J. Popailo HUBBARDTON — Victoria Josephine Popailo, 66, died Saturday at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland. She was born June 19, 1933, in Jersey City, N.J., daughter of Joseph and Victoria (Miller) Malizewski. She received her early education in local New Jersey schools. In earlier years, she was active in the Port Monmouth (N.J.) Rescue Squad and Port Monmouth Volunteer Fire Department. She married John Popailo in Jersey City on Dec. 16, 1951. Mrs. Popailo moved with her family to Brandon in 1972. She had been a resident of Hubbardton since 1984. She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven and was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Monmouth. She was also a member of the Brandon American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 55. Survivors include five sons, Dennis Popailo of Belford, N.J., Kenneth Popailo of North Middletown, N.J., Ronald Popailo of Keansburg, N.J.; Robert Popailo Sr. of Fair Haven and Raymond Popailo of Rutland; a daughter, Lenora Miller of Hubbardton; and 16 grandchildren. 	Carolyn N. Staples BENNINGTON — Carolyn Nelson Staples, 84, died Saturday at the Bennington Health and Rehab Center. She was born March 28, 1916, in Stamford, Conn., daughter of Bernard and Caroline (Swan) Nelson. Mrs. Staples received her teaching certification from Maryville College in Tennessee and her nursing diploma from Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where she was the recipient of the Guggenheim Award. She was employed throughout her life as a registered nurse. She volunteered after her retirement at the Senior Friendship Center in Fort Myers, Fla. He worked at Fellows Gear Shaper for 44 years as an assembly machinist. Mr. Childs was a member of the Moose and the Rod and Gun Club. He played the bugle for the Drum and Bugle Corps. of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Bernice E. 	Jayne M. Conant Jayne Mainolfi Conant, 87, of Rutland died Sunday at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a long illness. She was born June 1, 1912, in Rutland, daughter of Frank and Carmina (Narcisco) Mainolfi. Mrs. Conant ran Jayne’s Beauty Shop in Proctor for many years. She had also worked at the Economy Department Store and as a buyer at the Ross-Huntress store for several years. Together with her husband they ran the Beacon Restaurant at the Rutland State Airport for many years. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church and was a volunteer grandmother at the Northwest School. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara D’esposito of Deal, N.J.; a son, John W. Conant Jr. of Rutland; a sister, Mary C. Taylor of Rutland; a brother, Alfred Mainolfi of Rutland; three grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John W. Conant Sr., in 1974; four sisters, Catherine Delpizzo, Viola Wheeler, Lillie Mainolfi and Alba Dello; and two brothers, James Mainolfi and Mario Mainolfi. 	Charlotte B. Guiltinan WEST RUTLAND – Charlotte Bliss Guiltinan, 89, died Sunday at Rome (N.Y.) Memorial Hospital. She was born July 23, 1910, in West Rutland, daughter of Charles and Mary Ellen (Derven) Bliss. She graduated from West Rutland High School and Castleton Normal School, and earned a degree in education from Syracuse University, where she did extensive postgraduate work. She was married to Francis J. Guiltinan on Jan. 27, 1938, in Albany, N.Y. He died in 1967. Mrs. Guiltinan taught in the Rome school system for 24 years until retiring in 1976. Prior to that she taught in the Danby school system. She had traveled extensively throughout the world. She was a charter member of St. Paul’s Church in Rome, where she was active as a minister of the Eucharist, religious education instructor, and a member of the Altar Society. She had performed volunteer work for 20 years at Bethany House, and was active in the Meals on Wheels program, the Wednesday Morning Club and the Retired Rome Teachers Association. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Michie of Abilene, Texas, and Peg Page of Rome; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph Guiltinan, in 1958. 	Leon R. Hallock WEATHERSFIELD – Leon Robert Hallock, 42, died Sunday at his home. He was born June 12, 1957, in Keene, N.H., son of Leo P. and Mary (Emery) Hallock. 	W. Beach Randall BENNINGTON – W. Beach Randall, 81, died Sunday at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington after a long illness. He was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Shaftsbury, son of Walter and Grace (Sampson) Beach. He graduated from the former Bennington High School in 1937. He later attended Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. Mr. Randall was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of World War II. He married Helen Greene on Aug. 10, 1940, in Old Bennington. Mr. Randall had worked as a manufacturing engineer for Stanley Tool, Cushman Manufacturing, Tansitor Electronics and the James Hunter Tool Company. After his retirement he worked at Hemmings Motor News. His hobbies included painting, tinkering with things mechanical and working around his home. He enjoyed spending winters with his wife in Florida, where he was a champion shuffleboard player. Mr. Randall was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Bennington and was a former volunteer with the Bennington Little League. Harry Williams Jr. He attended U32 High School in East Montpelier, Vt., and attended Johnson State College in Johnson, Vt. He was married to Doris A. Chouinard on Oct. 1, 1983. Mr. Williams worked at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in 1981, and in 1986 he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in White River Junction, Vt. He later transferred to Enfield as a postal clerk. Mr. Williams was an avid golfer and bowler and was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Eric C. 	James B.M. Dickie POWNAL – James B.M. Dickie, 90, died Monday at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington after a long illness. He was born June 10, 1909, in Gourock, Scotland, son of George and Margaret (MacKenzie) Dickie. He attended schools in Bennington. He married Catherine Humphries on Jan. 26, 1934. She died in 1994. Mr. Dickie had worked at Pownal Tanning and at Williams College. He later worked at Sprague Electric in North Adams, Mass., retiring in 1972. His hobbies included reading, cooking and camping. He was an avid baseball fan and had been a Little League coach as well as Boy Scout Master of Troop 59 in Williamstown, Mass. He had traveled through Scotland and Nova Scotia in 1974. 	Ernest G. Gorton CORNWALL – Ernest George Gorton, 80, died Monday at the Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury. He was born July 9, 1919, in Cornwall, son of Henry and Lena (Gordon) Gorton. Mr. Gorton was a veteran of World War II, serving in Germany. After his discharge he returned to Addison County and was married to Harriet Jackson on Feb. 28, 1953, in Vergennes. He worked on dairy farms in the area until 1984 when he retired. He then worked part time for Douglas Orchards in Shoreham, and Paul Seiler of Cornwall. 	Chester S. Hallock Sr. GOSHEN – Chester Stanley Hallock Sr., 83, died Monday at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Bristol, son of George and Elsie (Dickson) Hallock. He had been a resident of Goshen since 1924, moving from Bristol. He was a graduate of Brandon High School, class of 1936. Mr. Hallock served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge he returned to Goshen and worked for Lee Smith’s Garage in Brandon for more than 15 years. He later did some carpentry and logging work. Mr. Hallock returned to Lee Smith Automotive during the 1960s as an automobile mechanic. He retired from carpentry and logging in 1985. He had earlier worked for his father in the ice business, cutting and storing ice on Jones Pond in Brandon. He was married to Ester M. Hall on Oct. 30, 1946, in Goshen. Survivors include two sons, Chester S. Hallock Jr. of Rutland and Gordon Hallock of Goshen; two daughters, Deloris McKeighan of Goshen and Erma Jean Dressel of Olympia, Wash.; a sister, Wilma Goodnow of Brandon; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 	Charmaine T. Richardson LONDONDERRY – Charmaine T. Richardson, 71, died Monday at Springfield Hospital. She was born Aug. 11, 1928, in Windsor, daughter of Hazel and Ernest Laundry. She attended school in Ascutney and graduated from Windsor High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Castleton State College. She married Arthur A. Richardson on June 26, 1947, in Windsor. Mrs. Richardson taught school in Bondville and Londonderry for many years. She had also worked for Stoddard’s Store in Londonderry and Stratton Mountain for many years. She also cooked for individuals who made their second home in the Londonderry area for many years. She had attended St. Joseph’s Chapel in Londonderry and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, camping and cooking. Survivors include her husband of Londonderry; a son, Allen A. 	Thomas Skoie BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Thomas Skoie, 91, a former resident of the Rutland, Vt., area, died Monday at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge. He was born in Holum, Norway, settled in the Oranges at the age of 17, and lived in Bloomfield for 63 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1932 to 1934. Mr. Skoie had been a carpenter and later a foreman for Becker Construction in the Oranges for more than 30 years, retiring 26 years ago. He was a member of the Bloomfield Elks Lodge 788 and was a past trustee. Survivors include his wife, Helen M. (Rusiecki); a daughter, Barbara J. O’Brien; two sisters, Petra Syverson and Ingrid Larsen; and four grandchildren. A prayer service will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Levandoski Funeral Home, 44 Bay Ave., Bloomfield. 	Stephen Somich GRANVILLE, N.Y. – Stephen Somich, 80, died Monday at Glens Falls Hospital. He was born March 7, 1920, in Granville, son of Michael and Elizabeth (Cuprak) Somich. Mr. Somich was a veteran of World War II. He owned and operated Somich Brothers Slate Co. with his brothers, Alec and Peter. He was married to Dorothy Carpenter on Dec. 26, 1949. Mr. Somich was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Mettowee Valley Bowling League for many years. He was an avid hunter. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Michael Somich of Hinsdale, Ill., Stephen H. Somich of Whippany, N.J., Thomas Somich of Granville and Peter Somich of Norwich; a daughter, Marguerite Corazza of Montville, N.J.; a brother, Nicholas Somich of Granville; a sister, Ella Turner of Hartford; eight grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 	Ethel R. White WESTMINSTER – Ethel Lyla (Read) White, 94, died Monday at her home. She was born April 12, 1905, in Methuen, Mass., daughter of Henry C. and Carrie E. (Partlow) Read. She attended schools in Methuen and married Arthur R. White of Dummerston in 1970. She worked soldering tank units for the King Seeley Corp. in Ann Arbor, Mich., for five years. Mrs. White was also employed by the original Herman Woodward Florist of Walpole, N.H., as a wreath maker for the holiday seasons for about 20 years. She was also the first Farmerette to work for wages in the state of Vermont during World War II. Later she was self-employed as a commercial egg producer for many years, serving Winding Brook Lodge of Keene, N.H., and Brattleboro, selling wholesale and retail, retiring in 1968. In 1979 she joined the Kurn Hattin Staff, retiring in 1990 after 10 years of service. She was as member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Drewsville, N.H., and the Rockingham Senior Center in Bellows Falls. Survivors include a stepson, Donald White of Winchester, N.H.; a daughter, Dorothy Caswell of Keene; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1976; three brothers, Irving E. Read, Carl Read and Arthur Read; two stepsons, Robert White and Philip White; and a stepdaughter, Ruthie Cudworth. 	Henry Crandall BENSON – Mr. Henry Crandall, 80, a longtime resident of Benson, died Tuesday morning at his home in Benson. Henry was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Landgrove, son of the late Arthur and Elsie (Monroe) Crandall. Mr. Crandall lost his sight in early childhood but was able to overcome many obstacles and managed to lead an extraordinary life of self-sufficiency and lived with great enthusiasm. He has been a part of the agricultural community all his life, raising cattle, horses, sheep and chickens. For several years he and his brother were involved with pony racing and won many medals. Survivors include five sisters, Christine Bushman of Texas, Florence Capen of Shaftsbury, Katie Keyes of Manchester, Sarah Towsley of North Dorset and Lillian Ploof of Burlington; and also by his lifelong friend, John Griffith of Fair Haven. He was predeceased by his sister, Pearl; and his four brothers, William, Wilbur, Clarence and Alvin. 	Florence Finnell BRATTLEBORO – Florence "Flossie" Finnell, 64, a lifelong resident of the Brattleboro area, died Tuesday at her home after a long illness. She was born March 23, 1935, in Brattleboro, daughter of Oliver and Elizabeth (LaValley) LaValley. She was raised and educated in Brattleboro and attended St. Michael’s School. She was a former resident of Putney. For several years she worked at the Holton Home as a nurse’s aid, retiring in 1997. She was married to John E. Finnell on June 4, 1955, in Brattleboro. He died in 1993. Mr. Finnell was a communicant of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She was an active volunteer of the Retried Senior Volunteer Program in Brattleboro and volunteered at Linden Lodge Nursing Home. She enjoyed traveling, the ocean and crafts. Survivors include four daughters, Karen Caldwell of Mesa, Ariz., Maureen Finnell of Gill, Mass., Gail Clark of Vernon and Kelley Bucossi of Brattleboro; three sisters, Mildred Nebelski of Bernardston, Mass., Theresa Finnell and Beatrice Goodenough, both of Brattleboro; a half-sister, Frances LaFountain of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 	Lillian M. Glaze KILLINGTON – Lillian Margaret Glaze, 88, died Tuesday at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born May 1, 1911, in Holyoke, Mass., daughter Earl J. and Laura (Rael) Brewer. She attended Holyoke grade schools and graduated from Torrington (Conn.) High School. She was married to Horace E. Glaze on April 27, 1962. Mrs. Glaze worked for nine years for the Southern New England Telephone Co. in Torrington. She moved in 1961 with her husband to Killington, where they built, owned and operated the Red Rob Inn. Together they also owned Boxwood Inc., a construction business. The Glaze’s built and developed Glazebrook Town Houses in Killington. Mrs. Glaze was a member of the Sherburne United Church of Christ, Sherburne Women’s Club, and the West Bridgewater/Sherburne Home Dem, and was an active community volunteer. 	Dorothea L. Pelton VERNON – Dorothea L. Pelton, 91, a resident of Vernon Hall, died Tuesday at Mount Ascutney Hospital in Windsor after a long illness. She was born Dec. 26, 1908, in Hamden, Conn., daughter of Charles H. and Josephine (Druen) Lewis. She attended schools in Putnam Valley, N.Y., and graduated from Drum Hill High School in Peekskill, N.Y., in 1925. She later graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y., in 1929. She was married to George D. Pelton Jr., on April 19, 1935, in New York City. He died in 1990. She taught home economics at Monticello High School in Monticello, N.Y. She was associated with Lewis Brothers Inc., a woodworking mill in West Rupert, which was established by her father and uncles. Mrs. Pelton was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Brattleboro Chapter. She was a volunteer at Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge, N.Y., and the Dorset Nursing Association. 	Ronald G. Fournier WINDSOR – Ronald G. Fournier, 46, died Wednesday at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor. He was born Nov. 1, 1953, in Windsor, son of Germain and Anita (Turgeon) Fournier. He graduated from Windsor High School in 1971 and attended Norwich University in Northfield. Mr. Fournier was the manager of the paint department at Handyman Hardware Store in Chula Vista, Calif., for three years. He then managed Jim’s Paint & Wallpaper Store in St. Johnsbury for more than seven years before moving to Florida, where he worked as a commercial sales representative for a paint store. He later moved back to Windsor, where he was a customer service representative for a wallpaper company. He had owned and operated Jim’s Paint & Wallpaper Store in Windsor since 1993. Mr. Fournier was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. Survivors include his parents of Enfield, N.H.; two sisters, Patricia Sottile of Rochester, Mich., and Debra Quintana of Williston; and three nieces and two nephews. 	W. Crocker Herrick Jr. BRAINTREE – W. Crocker Herrick Jr., 69, died Wednesday at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Melrose, Mass., son of Warren C. and Elizabeth (Kelley) Herrick. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1949. He later graduated from Episcopal Divinity School in Amherst, Mass. Mr. Herrick served with the U.S. Air Force in Korea. He was an Episcopal priest for many years, serving in Nebraska, Wyoming, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. He married Francis B. Robertson on Dec. 8, 1978, in Massachusetts. They moved to Royalton in 1979, where he was director of the South Royalton Senior Center until his retirement in 1997. The Herricks moved to Braintree in 1988. Mr. Herrick was a avid reader and enjoyed history and cooking. Survivors include his wife of Braintree; three sons, W. 	Ora C. Lewis POMFRET – Ora Cobb Lewis, 86, died Wednesday on the family farm in Pomfret. He was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Pomfret, son of Robbin J. and Mollie G. (Cobb) Lewis. Mr. Lewis graduated from Woodstock High School in 1932 and the Vermont School of Agriculture in Randolph Center in 1933. He was a dairy farmer his entire life. Mr. Lewis was a member of the Prosper Community Club and the Prosper Baseball Team. He was also a member of the Bellows Falls Cooperative Creamery, the Yankee Milk, serving as representative, the Eastern Breeders Association, serving as a New England representative, and the Agway Advisory Committee. He was a town lister and zoning administrator for the town of Pomfret. Survivors include four children, James S. Lewis of Pomfret, Leslie C. Lewis of Ames, Iowa, Philip O. Lewis of Barnard and Ann L. Wynia of Pomfret; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Estelle C. 	Walter A. McLaren Jr. Walter A. McLaren Jr., 76, of Rutland died Thursday at his home after a long illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Maple Hill, N.Y., son of Walter and Margarite (Walker) McLaren Sr. After his mother died, he was raised by his grandmother, Emma McLaren, in Maple Hill. He graduated from New Paltz High School in New York in 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II with the Darby Rangers Unit. He was the recipient of five bronze battle stars. He was married to Kathryn Lemma on Aug. 10, 1947. Mr. McLaren moved from Yonkers, N.Y., to Rutland in 1963. He owned and operated Walt’s Texaco until 1967 and then worked at the General Electric Co. until his retirement in 1989. He operated McLaren’s Sharpening Service from his home. Mr. McLaren was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Rutland Senior Citizens, the Senior Choir and American Legion Post 31. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 648 and a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose 1122. Survivors include his wife of Rutland; a sister, Virginia Steward of Boonville, N.Y.; a niece; and a nephew. He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Talmadge. He was born June 8, 1921, in Rutland, son of Frank and Maude (Archer) Crawford. He graduated from Rutland High School. Mr. Crawford was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a machinist for Whitney Blake in Bellows Falls and was a member of the National Riffle Association and the Rod and Gun Club in Chester. Mr. Crawford was an avid hunter and fisherman. 	Dylan Hoover BRANDON – Dylan (Hart) Hoover, 42, died Saturday at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 20, 1957, in Lancaster, N.H., daughter of Harvey and Dorothy Hart. She was raised by her grandparents, Otis and Dorothy Hart of Lancaster. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Keene (N.H.) State College and her master’s degree from the University of Hawaii. Mrs. Hoover was employed as a librarian at Middlebury College at the time of her death. She enjoyed gardening, landscaping, architecture and traveling. 	Victoria N. Tirrell RANDOLPH – Victoria Nunn Tirrell, 98, died Saturday at Menig Extended Care. She was born Jan. 13, 1902, in Cambridge, Mass., daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (McFadden) Nunn. She attended Cambridge Latin School, graduated from Somerville High School, and attended Harvard College. She married D. Bradford Tirrell in 1933, and they lived in Hingham, Mass., before moving to Randolph in 1939. Mrs. Tirrell was a personal secretary for the president of the Stetson Shoe Company. During the 1940s, she was an active member of the Gifford Hospital Auxiliary and created the Randolph Center Chapter of the Girl Scouts, acting as their leader. In 1954, she created the Gifford Hospital Thrift Shop, with which she remained active until the 1980s. Mrs. Tirrell was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and was church treasurer from 1945 to 1955. She also helped create St. Margaret’s Guild and the annual church bazaar. She was a charter member of the Randolph Garden Club and served as president from 1970 to 1971. She won several awards in the flower arranging category as well as the Vermont Garden Club’s Civic Beatification Award. She was also an active volunteer for the Vermont Cancer Association and the Vermont Heart Association. Mrs. Tirrell enjoyed traveling. Survivors include a nephew and two nieces. She was predeceased by her husband; two sisters, Gretchen Deck and Mary Nunn; and a brother, Kenneth Nunn. A memorial service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church by the Rev. 	Richard H. Whitney SPRINGFIELD – Richard H. Whitney, 73, died Saturday at his home. He was born May 22, 1926, in Montgomery Center, son of Walter and Eunice (Houghten) Whitney. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1944 and from St. Louis University. Mr. Whitney entered the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired after 30 years of service. He worked for the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department in Maine for several years. He later owned a florist shop in Bangor, Maine, and operated his own restaurant in Manchester, N.H. For the past four years he had lived in Springfield and had been self-employed as a floral design consultant. Survivors include a son, Dale P. Whitney of Springfield; his former wife, Helga (Krippendorft) Whitney of Jackson, Miss.; two stepdaughters, Carolyn of California and Patty Knox of Lawrence, Mass.; two brothers, Raymond Nourse of Springfield and Frederick Nourse of Oceanside, Calif.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his second wife, Rita (Gillis) Whitney; a brother, Charles Nourse Jr.; and a stepson, Paul Gillis. 	Louise M. Jaird LUDLOW – Louise M. Jaird, 90, died Sunday at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 24, 1910, in Healdville, daughter of Archie and Minnie (Little) Clokey. She attended schools in Healdville and made her home in the Ludlow community for more than 50 years. She was a longtime member and communicant of the Church of the Annunciation in Ludlow. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and gardening. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Jaird of Ludlow; a son, Francis Jaird of Big Spring, Texas; a brother, Levi Clokey of Caldwell, Idaho; a sister, Emma Pike of Ludlow; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick C. Jaird in 1937; three brothers and five sisters. The funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Annunciation in Ludlow, by the Rev. Robert Richardson, pastor. A luncheon will follow at the Parish Center. Entombment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery Vault in Springfield with burial to be held at a later date in Pleasantview Cemetery in Ludlow. Visiting hours will be private. 	William J. Wilcox BENNINGTON – William J. Wilcox, 82, died Sunday at the Vermont Veterans Home after a long illness. He was born May 6, 1917, in West Fairlee, son of Robert and Minnie (Grenier) Wilcox. He attended schools in Washington, Vt. Mr. Wilcox was a U.S. Army World War II veteran serving in the field artillery from 1941 to 1945. He had worked at the Woolen Mills in Hartford and later as a carpenter in Northfield. Survivors include a sister, Mildred A. Clift of Barre; and several nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. 	Albert B. Cushing BENNINGTON – Albert B. Cushing, 82, died Monday at the Vermont Veterans Home after a long illness. He was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Bennington, son of Albert and Nancy (Toomey) Cushing. He attended school in Bennington. Mr. Cushing was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He had worked at William H. Morse Construction Co. and Burrington Construction. Mr. Cushing’s hobbies included hunting and fishing, and he was a New York Yankees fan. Survivors include two brothers, George J. Cushing of Bennington and Joseph Cushing of Bridgewater, N.J.; a sister, Mary Clifford of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. 	Roger G. Eastman Sr. WEATHERSFIELD BOW – Roger G. "Roddy" Eastman Sr., 51, died Monday at home after a brief illness. He was born Nov. 18, 1948, in Springfield, son of Roger W. and Doris (Graham) Eastman. He attended grade school in Ascutney and later Springfield High School, graduating from the Springfield Co-op Machine Course in 1966. Mr. Eastman worked at the Jones and Lamson Machine Tool Co. in Springfield for many years. He later worked for the Needham Corp. in North Hartland. For the past 11 years he worked for Luminescent Systems of Lebanon, N.H. For most of his life, he had remained an active part of the family dairy farm on Route 5, in his spare time. He had been a lifelong resident of the community and was a member of the Springfield Moose Lodge 679 and a former member of the Windsor Elks Club. Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Alexander) Eastman of Weathersfield; his father, Roger W. Eastman of Weathersfield; his stepmother, Marian Eastman of Springfield; three sons, Roger G. Eastman Jr. of Tennessee, Justin Eastman and Graham Eastman, both of Windsor; a daughter, Shawna Eastman of Hartland; two adopted sons, Nick Eastman of Weathersfield and Verne Eastman of Texas; an adopted daughter, Tanya Eastman of Hartland; two brothers, Gary Eastman and Leighton Eastman, both of Weathersfield; two sisters, Eileen Quackenbush of Salem, N.Y., and Suzanne Johnson of Springfield; a stepsister, Nan Reed of Lebanon, N.H.; a stepbrother, John Van Hoesen of Cuttingsville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. 	Julia Frazier PROCTOR – Julia Frazier, 72, died Monday at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Proctor, daughter of John and Mary (Poliachik) Pokorady. She graduated from Proctor High School in 1945. Mrs. Frazier worked for the Vermont Marble Co., in Proctor for 26 years as a customer service representative in production control. She was a member of St. Dominic’s Church, a volunteer at Rutland Regional Medical Center and a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also active in youth activities in Proctor. Mrs. Frazier was a seamstress and an upholsterer. Survivors include her husband, William M. Frazier; two daughters, Linda Doty of Proctor and Judy Phillips of St. Paul, Minn.; a sister, Mary Capobianco of Zephyrhills, Fla.; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 	Luke C. Miller WHITE RIVER JUNCTION – Luke Chester Miller, 46, died Monday in Dummerston. He was born Dec. 15, 1953, in Bridgeport, Conn., son of Jeanne (Walsh) and Luke Miller Jr. Mr. Miller was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in 1972. He had previously worked for Farrell Corp., Fagan’s Restaurant and Raybestos. Survivors include a son, Daniel Miller of Las Vegas; his father; a brother, Scott Miller of West Haven, Conn.; two sisters, Lynn Miller of Franklin, Tenn., and Christine Colomb of Bennington; a grandmother, Annette Miller of Keene, N.H.; two grandchildren; a niece and nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother. A service of remembrance will be held at the convenience of the family.
	Edmund J. Momaney Sr. BRATTLEBORO – Edmund J. Momaney, 72, a lifelong resident of the area, died Monday at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. He was born May 8, 1927, in Brattleboro, son of Dolphis and Edna (Cloutier) Momaney. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro and attended St. Michael’s School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who was stationed in the European Theater working as a graves registration tech with the 14th Infantry, 71st Division. He married Mona M. Dove on Feb. 18, 1950, in Brattleboro. Mr. Momaney worked for more than 50 years as a professional painter, 18 years of which he was affiliated with his brother at Momaney Painters. He had previously worked at Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates until the company closed. Mr. Momaney attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church and was a former member of the American Legion, Brattleboro Post 5. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Survivors in addition to his wife include four sons, Philip Momaney of Brattleboro, Edmund Momaney Jr. of Marlboro, Gary Momaney of North Westminster and Stephen Momaney of Hinsdale, N.H.; a daughter, Sharon Momaney of Hinsdale; four brothers, Richard Momaney of Brattleboro, Walter Momaney of Hinsdale, Ralph Momaney of Vernon and Francis Momaney of Dummerston; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 	Jessamena W. Orizzonto LEBABON, N.H. – Jessamena W. Orizzonto, 82, died Monday at the Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover, N.H. She was born Dec. 22, 1917, in White River Junction, Vt., daughter of Sabino W. and Antoinette (Anzelone) Romano. She graduated from Hartford High School in 1936. She married Dr. Homer B. Wilson on March 31, 1945. After his retirement they moved to Sanbornton, N.H., and built a home on Lake Winnisquam, where she lived for 37 years. He died in 1964. She was married to John Orizzonto on May 6, 1971, in White River Junction and they lived on the lake and at their farm in North Hartland, Vt. He died in 1981. She continued to live on the farm for six years and in 1987 she moved to Lebanon. Mrs. Orizzonto worked as a dental assistant and office manager for Dr. Roland P. Leahy at the Laconia Medical Center for three years. She later worked as a secretary for the State of New Hampshire Department of Education at the Rehabilitation Center at the Laconia State School, retiring in 1971. She enjoyed fishing and hunting. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon, the National Association of Federal Employees, Chapter 1913, in White River Junction, and was also a past member of the Catholic Daughters in Laconia. Survivors include two sisters, Mary R. Gempka of West Lebanon and Violet Maghee of Augusta, Ga.; a brother, Sabino W. Roman of Alexandria, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven sisters, Sister Mary Assumpta, Frances Jordan, Olympia Romano, Lena Romano, Rose R. Mans, Margaret Romano and Annie Romano; and a brother, Alfonzo Romano. 	George G. Smith George Gaines Smith of Rutland died March 27, 2000, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 13, 1909, in New Rochelle, N.Y., the son of Henry G. Smith and Helen Clarke Smith. On Oct. 5, 1935, he married Virginia Pierce. He graduated from Phillips Andover Academy in 1927 and attended Yale University – The Sheffield School, class of 1931. He was head of the trust department of the Clement National Bank until it was sold in 1939. Since 1939 he was a self-employed trust officer. Active throughout his life in golf, he served as treasurer of the Rutland Country Club for 30 years, was a former president of the Vermont State Golf Association and New England Golf Association. In addition, he was co-founder and president of the Vermont Golf Scholarship Fund and a former committee man for the United States Golf Association. Locally, he was a former treasurer of Trinity Episcopal Church, president and treasurer of the Rutland Fair Association, treasurer and director of the Rutland Hospital, and director of the Rutland Herald. He is survived by his wife; a son, Pierce G. Smith of Rutland; a son, Attorney Richard S. Smith of Wallingford; grandsons, Michael W. Smith of Rutland, Scott G. Smith of New York City and Jared P. Smith of New York City; a granddaughter, Erika Anne Smith of Wallingford; a great-grandson, Henry Gaines Smith of New York City; and his brother, Attorney R. Clarke Smith of Rutland. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Henry G. Smith II; and his sister, Helen Smith Gale of Bronxville, N.Y. 	Teruo Yoshimura NORTH BENNINGTON – Teruo "Teddy" Yoshimura, 62, died Monday at Crescent Manor Care Centers after a long illness. He was born Jan. 2, 1938, in Hiroshima, Japan, son of Esabulo and Rikae Yoshimura. He attended schools in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Yoshimura immigrated to the United States in 1961 and worked in New York City as a chef for eight years. He moved to New Lebanon, N.Y., and worked at Shuji’s Restaurant for three years. He then established Yoshi’s Restaurant on Route 7 in Hoosick, N.Y., which he owned and operated with Kimoko S. Foster for more than 28 years. He enjoyed traveling, horseracing, boxing and going to casinos. Survivors include a brother, Hiroyuki Yoshimura of Hiroshima; two sisters, Satsuko Omohmi and Etsuko Misono, both of Tokyo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his companion, Kimoko S. Foster; a brother, Nobumamsa Yoshimura; and a sister, Kakazko Shottenkirk. 	Richard R. Kennett Sr. CHESTER – Richard R. Kennett Sr., 63, died Tuesday at his home. He was born Oct. 5, 1936, in East Hygate, son of Joseph A. and Ida L. (Raymond) Kennett. He attended schools in Franklin. Mr. Kennett worked in farming in northern Vermont, owned and operated Kennett & Son Dry Wall for six years in Cambridgeport, and worked for Putney Paper in Putney. He married Melinda Tallman on July 3, 1990, in South Acworth, N.H. Survivors include his wife of Chester; three sons, Richard R. Kennett Jr. of Putney, Scott P. Kennett of Springfield and Shane L. Kennett of Chester; three brothers, Clifton Kennett of Vernon, Neil Kennett of Iowa and Arthur Kennett of Charlestown, N.H.; two sisters, Elaine Lockerby of Grafton and Rita Blodgett of Bellows Falls; and seven grandchildren. 	Alice C. Olmstead BRATTLEBORO – Alice Caroline Olmstead, 72, died Tuesday at Eden Park Nursing Home, where she had lived for the past two and a half years. She was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Island Pond, daughter of Arthur and Jeannette (Gagne) Daniels. She was raised and educated in Claremont, N.H., where she attended St. Mary’s Parochial School. She married Rowland D. Wheeler. She later married Cleo Olmstead on Dec. 12, 1959. He died in 1979. Mrs. Olmstead was a weaver most of her working career and had worked for Troy Mills and Wallingford Mills, both of Keene, N.H. Previously she had worked for the Princess Shoe Co. and Sprague and Carlton Inc., also in Keene. She had also worked at the Book Press in Brattleboro. She was a member of Faith Ministries and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Brattleboro Aerie 2445. She enjoyed playing bingo and crossword puzzles. Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Olmstead of Keene, Linda Haselton of Brattleboro and Caroline Wheeler-Zurmuhlen of Westmoreland, N.H.; two stepsons, John Olmstead of Troy, N.H., and Edward Olmstead of Florida; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 	Bruce W. Sharby Sr. CHARLESTOWN, N.H. – Bruce W. Sharby Sr., 64, a former resident of Bennington, died Tuesday in Charlestown. He was born Aug. 5, 1935, in Keene, N.H., son of Frederick P. and Hortense (Chaubonau) Sharby. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force who served in the Korean War. He married Donna Macomber on Jan. 11, 1974, in Greenfield, Mass. She died on Dec. 18. Mr. Sharby was a self-employed appliance technician, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the American Legion Post 13 in Bennington. He enjoyed hunting. 	Hugh E. Weld WILDER – Hugh E. Weld, 93, died Tuesday at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born Aug. 30, 1906, in Berkshire, son of J. Emmette and Ethel (Grant) Weld. He graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1923 and attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago for electrical engineering. Mr. Weld worked at the Hannawa Falls Power Plant in Hannawa Falls, N.Y., for several years. He worked for the New England Power Company from 1930 retiring in 1968 as assistant supervisor at the Wilder Station in Wilder. During the opening ceremony of the Comerford Station dam in East Barnett, Mr. Weld started the generators with then President Roosevelt. He married Helen Kimball in 1928. She died in 1984. Mr. Weld was a member of the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ in Hartford Village and a member of the White River Lions Club, serving on the board of directors. He also served on the District 45 Cabinet in 1971 and 1972 as well as on the Youth Exchange Committee. He was the recipient of a Melvin Jones Fellow and in 1996 was awarded the Leadership Metal from the president of the Lion International. Survivors include a brother, Floyd C. Weld of Richford; and two nephews and two nieces. He was predeceased by a son, Keith E. Weld, who died in 1958. 	Philip E. Bailey WHITE CREEK, N.Y. – Philip E. Bailey, 58, a former longtime resident of North Bennington, Vt., died Wednesday at Albany Veterans Hospital after a long illness. He was born April 10, 1941, in Bennington, son of Frank and Daphine (Restino) Bailey. He graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington, Vt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Vermont National Guard for 18 years, until 1995. Mr. Bailey was first married to Donna Loomis, who died in 1996. He later married Doreen (Derosia) Reed on May 16, 1998, in White Creek. For 29 years he owned and operated Mr. Fix It, an appliance repair business in the Bennington area. Mr. Bailey was a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington, Veterans of Foreign Wars Harned Fowler Post in Manchester, Vt., Mount Anthony Lodge 13 F&AM in Bennington and Shriners Cairo Temple in Rutland, Vt. He was a life-member of the Bennington Moose Lodge 1223 in Bennington and a retired member of the North Bennington Fire Department. He enjoyed camping and bowling and sponsored the Mr. Fix It bowling team for more than 20 years. Survivors include his wife of White Creek; four daughters, Kimberly Arnold of Bennington, Melissa Davendonis of Hoosick Falls, Darcy Bollack of Johnsonville and Kelly Grignon of Lansingburgh; five stepchildren, Cindy Garvey of Ira, Vt., Michael Reed, Diana Gordon and Jeffrey Reed, all of Bennington, and Bruce Reed of Greenfield, Mass.; four granddaughters; 18 stepgrandchildren; and several brothers, sisters, step brothers, stepsisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. 	Irma R. Decker ROCHESTER – Irma R. Decker, 89, died Wednesday at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. She was born Oct. 31, 1910, in Durant, Iowa, daughter of Henry and Minnie (Belter) Rusher. She graduated from Durant High School in 1928 and the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1932. Mrs. Decker moved to New York state in 1932 and married Ellery K. Decker on July 4, 1936. Mrs. Decker worked as a registered nursed for the Bainbridge Hospital in Bainbridge, N.Y., the Afton Hospital in Afton, N.Y., the Sidney Hospital in Sidney, N.Y., as an operating room nurse, and then for the Gelder Medical Group in Sidney, N.Y., for 20 years, retiring in 1979. After her retirement she moved with her husband to Orlando, Fla. After the death of her husband in 1994, she moved to Vermont. In 1995, she moved to the Park House in Rochester. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, golfing and playing cards. Survivors include a daughter, Norma Jean Decker of Randolph; three sisters, Mildred Steffen, Norma Ploen and Lucy Wells, all of Durant; a granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and 21 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Rusher; and three sisters, Dorothy Bennett, Ruby Nesbitt and Lois Rusher. 	Francis L. Fassett FOREST DALE – Francis Loran "Jack" Fassett, 87, died Wednesday at Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Libertyville, Ill., son of Francis E. and Anna Lucile (Holst) Fassett. He came with his family to Vermont in 1916 and attended Forest Dale schools. He married Grace Simpson on Feb. 15, 1936, in Leicester. Mr. Fassett worked as a machine operator for Newton-Thompson Wooden Toy Manufacturing Co. in Forest Dale for more than 40 years. He later worked as a machine operator at Roller By Baker, also in Forest Dale, for 10 years, retiring in 1979. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a charter member of the Neshobe Old Time Fish & Game Club. Survivors include his wife of Forest Dale; a son, Edwin F. Fassett of Forest Dale; a daughter, Patricia Forbes of Middlebury; a sister, Florence Brown of Middlebury; two grandson; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 	Marcel E. Knowles CHARLESTOWN, N.H. – Marcel "Mark" E. Knowles, 52, died Wednesday at his home. He was born Dec. 2, 1947, in Lyndon, Vt., son of Kathryn (Duffy) Knowles. He graduated from Bellows Falls High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army 606 Ordinance Co. during the Vietnam War. Mr. Knowles worked for Perrault’s Appliance in Bellows Falls, the Charlestown School District, Fall Mountain Motors in Westminster, Vt., and Green Mountain Railroad in Bellows Falls. He was a former fireman in Alstead and a former member of the Elks 1619 in Bellows Falls and the American Legion in Alstead and Walpole. He enjoyed going to the Claremont Speedway and Ford Mustangs. 	Thomas E. Levins QUINCEY, Ill. – Thomas E. Levins, 65, died Wednesday at the Veterans Home in Quincey. He was born Feb. 24, 1935, in Rutland, Vt., son of Robert and Irma (Day) Levins. He graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy and the University of Vermont. Mr. Levins had lived in Illinois since 1982. 	Arthur W. Morrison WALPOLE, N.H. – Arthur W. Morrison, 64, died Wednesday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born Nov. 17, 1935, in Belfast, Maine. He was a U.S. Marine veteran who served on the USS Intrepid during the Korean War. Mr. Morrison was a musician, singer, songwriter, tree surgeon, police officer and truck driver and was distinguished with several citations for bravery. He was a member of the American Legion in Walpole and the National Rifleman’s Association. Mr. Morrison was an avid outdoorsman and founded and led several local country and western bands, and had toured and performed in Nashville, Tenn. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor M. Morrison of Walpole; five sons, Richard A. Morrison of Oxford, Conn., Douglas J. Morrison of Seymour, Conn., Robert G. Morrison of La Jolla, Calif., Arthur W. 	Elizabeth Z. Redmond WHITEHALL, N.Y. – Elizabeth (Libby) Zakrzewski Redmond, 79, died Wednesday at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born April 29, 1920, in West Rutland, Vt., daughter of Anthony and Josephine Zakrzewski. She married Lawrence Redmond on Sept. 4, 1938. He died in 1988. Mrs. Redmond worked as a seamstress for many years for the Whitehall Coat Shop and the Troy Guild both of Whitehall. She had catered weddings and parties throughout the community and enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards, gardening and bingo. Survivors include four daughters, Sandra Angus, Eileen Breault, Jean Carr and Linda Redmond, all of Whitehall; a son, William Redmond of Whitehall; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sophia Hewitt of South Glens Falls; and several nieces and nephews. 	David G. Van Buren NEWBURY – David G. Van Buren, 75, died Wednesday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born May 14, 1924, in Elizabeth, N.J., son of Charles and Edith (Carmer) Van Buren. He graduated from Bradford Academy in 1942. Mr. Van Buren worked for a short time at the Bradford Veneer and Panel Company and then drove a truck for Whiting Dairy. He moved to Cape May, N.J., and joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of American Union Local 1742. He also worked as a carpenter. Mr. Van Buren moved back to Vermont in 1988 and married Polly (Rogers) Pike on July 26, 1991, in Wells River. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Survivors include his wife of Newbury; a daughter, Linda Price of Strafford, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Candis Grant of Newbury; a stepson, Lawrence Pike of Newbury; a brother, H. 	Jay F. Bristol TOWNSHEND – Jay Francis Bristol, 50, died Thursday at Grace Cottage Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was born March 8, 1950, in Burlington, son of Joel G. and Ruby (Capen) Bristol. A lifelong resident of the area, he was raised and educated in Townshend and graduated from Leland & Gray Seminary in 1968. He was first married to Jacqueline Pare. He later married Barbara C. Moore on July 31 in Townshend. Mr. Bristol was a self-employed caretaker who worked at the Townshend Common, Oakwood Cemetery and the Townshend Dam. During the winter he plowed snow for Paul Anderson Caretaking in the Windham area. He was a member of the Townshend Fire Department for 15 years, was part-owner of the New England Tractor Pullers Association, was a member of Big Daddy’s Pulling Team and was a board member of the Townshend TV Cable Club. Mr. Bristol was an avid NASCAR race fan. He also enjoyed working on cars, small engines and gardening. Survivors in addition to his wife include his mother of Townshend; a daughter, Jennifer A. Bristol of Townshend; a stepson, Trevor Moore of Townshend; a stepdaughter, Emily Moore of Townshend; a grandson; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. 	Henry A. Lawton III BRIDPORT – Henry Anthony Lawton III, 80, died Thursday at his home. He was born April 13, 1919, in Scituate, R.I., son of Gertrude (Harrington) and Henry Lawton II. He was a lifelong farmer in Rhode Island, taking over the family farm after the death of his father while still a teenager. He moved to Vermont in 1973 and farmed with his son Henry in Bridport until his death. In 1991, he and his family donated to the town of Scituate land from one of his farms to preserve open space. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Virginia; two daughters, Lynda Hamilton of Kathleen, Fla., and Lauren Mountford of Foster, R.I.; a son, Henry Lawton IV of Bridport; two brothers, Fred Lawton of Rhode Island and John Amell of Florida; a sister, Margaret Markunas of New Jersey, eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Wu worked for the Nabisco Co. for 30 years as a food chemistry specialist. 	Esther E. Baker NORTH SPRINGFIELD – Esther E. Baker, 84, of North Springfield, died Friday after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 31, 1915, in Danby, daughter of Harley and Jessie (Fitzgerald) Harrington. She married Kenneth Baker in 1931. Mrs. Baker was a wife and homemaker for more than 68 years. 	Howard M. Bardwell RUTLAND – Howard M. Bardwell, 71, of Rutland, died March 31, 2000, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Rutland, the son of Melbouren and Mary E. (Packerd) Bardwell. He was self-employed as a window washer for many years in the Rutland area. Mr. Bardwell was active in the Salvation Army for over 35 years, where he was a member of the color guard, and participated in the annual Kettle Drive. Survivors include four sisters and two brothers: Helen Bardwell of Rutland, with whom he made his home; Mary Stone of Rutland; Ruth Hoague of Rhode Island; Alice Lion of Whitehall, N.Y; George Bardwell of Rutland; and Theodore Bardwell of Castleton. 	Melvin R. Crary SPRINGFIELD – Melvin R. "Blondie" Crary, 77, died Friday at the Willowood Health Care Center in Williamstown, Mass., after a long illness. He was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Springfield, son of Roy and Hazel (Butterfield) Crary. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1940. Mr. Crary enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was honorably discharged soon thereafter for medical reasons. He married Kathleen Sanders on Dec. 3, 1943, in Springfield. Mr. Crary was a lifelong resident of the community and worked at the Parks and Woolson Machine Company for more than 42 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Springfield Elks Lodge 1560 for more than 50 years. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. 	Charlotte P. Geno Charlotte Alice Howland Perkins Geno, 82, of Rutland, died March 31, 2000, at Mountain View Genesis Elder Care. She was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Brandon, daughter of Gilbert Parsons and Anna Lunette (Bush) Howland. Charlotte graduated from Brandon High School in 1936 and attended Bryant College in Rhode Island in 1938. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Eaton’s Esso. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Brandon and Trinity Episcopal Church in Rutland. Mrs. Geno was a member of the United Commercial Insurance Travelers Local 461 of Rutland, in which she served as ladies secretary and treasurer. She was a member of Phyllis Chapter 56 Order of Eastern Star in Rutland, and the Otter Valley Citizens Ban Radio Club of Rutland. In the 1950s she was active in the Dana School PTA. 	William S. Morse Sr. William S. Morse Sr., 95, of Rutland, died Friday at Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 18, 1904, in Haverhill, N.H., son of Albert and Mabel (Brooks) Morse. He was a 1926 graduate of the University of New Hampshire. He married Lois Cochran of Ryegate on Dec. 8, 1938. Mr. Morse worked as a land surveyor and logging operator. He worked for Blandin & Glover and International Paper Company for 25 years. After retiring, he authored two books "A Country Life" and "Mix of Years." Survivors include two sons, William Morse Jr. of Rutland and Lawrence Morse of Newmarket, N.H.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife. 	Ilah I. Smith ROCHESTER – Ilah I. Smith, 88, died Friday at the Mayo Health Care in Northfield. She was born Dec. 10, 1911, in Fitch Bay, Quebec, Canada, daughter of Ralph and Cora (Longeway) Drew. She attended schools in St. Johnsbury. She married C. Smith Canning on Oct. 22, 1928, in Lyndonville. She later married Earl Smith of Southbury, Conn., in 1951. He died in 1991. She had lived in Rochester and for 42 years in Newcomb, N.Y. She was a former member of the Rochester Federated Church and the Quin-Town Senior Center in Hancock. She enjoyed tatting, knitting, crocheting and jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Sulham of Stockbridge and Nancy Amell of Bethel; a brother, Morris Drew of St. Johnsbury; a sister, Evelyn Cole of Grafton, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
