	EUCLIDE JOSEPH DUHAMEL SWANTON — Mr. Euclide Joseph Duhamel, 92, a longtime resident of the St. Albans Road, died late Saturday evening, September 2, 2000 in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. Born in Saint Ignace de Stanbridge, Quebec, Canada on September 15, 1907, he was the son of the late Frederick and Sophie (Santerre) Duhamel. He attended schools in Canada, and on August 17, 1940, he was married to the former Emelia Smith, who predeceased him March 25, 1987. Mr. Duhamel owned and operated his own farm on the St. Albans road for many years. He was also well known for his roadside stand; where for several years he sold his famous strawberries, tomatoes, apples and handmade wooden furniture. He was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Saint Edmund of Canterbury Council, 7669 in Swanton. He leaves his son, Robert J. Duhamel and his wife, Penny; a daughter, Margaret R. Capsey and her husband, Stanley, four grandchildren, Stanley and Christy Capsey Jr. , Ann Margaret Capsey, Kristy Duhamel and Stacey Duhamel; two great-grandchildren, Emily Capsey and Elizabeth Greenia all of Swanton. Also surviving is his sister, Mrs. Rita Choquette of Notre Dame de Stanbridge, Quebec and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Florabelle Duhamel of Alburg; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Roger Duhamel in 1978, and a sister, Aline Lajoie in 1998. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 8, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Canada Street, Swanton. Interment will follow in the family lot in Saint Louis Cemetery in Highgate Center. 	SU-AN HARRINGTON BURLINGTON — Su-An Harrington, 42, died unexpectedly Sunday, September 3, 2000 in Burlington. Su-An was born July 10, 1958 in Phoenix, Ariz., the daughter of Jan and Don Harrington of Ferrisburgh. She graduated form Rice Memorial High School in 1976. She is survived by her son, Justin Votos of Ferrisburgh; her parents; two dear friends, Brian Deignan and Tuck Higgins, both of Burlington; a brother, Patrick Harrington, and his wife, Liz of Hudson, N.H.; three sisters, Michelle Smyth and her husband, Peter of West Glover, Vt., Joanna Harrington of Greenville, N.C., and Kelly Harrington of West Burke, Vt; a nephew, Marc Harrington of Hudson, N.H.; and her aunt and uncle, Karol and Bill Alves, and cousins, Shelley and Aimee, all of Gainesville, Fla. There will be a service for Su-An at the discretion of her family. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Humane Society of Chittenden County, Queen City Park Rd., South Burlington, VT 05403. 	ANTOINETTE M. DRAGON ENOSBURG/SHELDON — Antoinette M. Dragon, age 89, widow of Nelson Dragon died peacefully Monday morning, September 4, 2000 surrounded by her family. She was born in Richford July 15, 1911, the daughter of Leon & Delia (Couture) Piette. Antoinette had been a resident of Enosburg most of her life, and for the past 2 years made her home in Sheldon with her daughters. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Ladies of St. Anne. She was also housekeeper for Reverend Gavin Maloney in Enosburg for several years. For the past 2 years she attended St. Anthony’s Church in Sheldon. She is survived by a son, Raymond Dragon and his very special friend, Laurie Chaloux of Bakersfield; three daughters and their husbands, Teresa & Allison Stanley of St. Albans, Rita and Wilfred Minckler and Rose and Ronald Longe, both of Sheldon; one brother, Omer Piette and his wife, Mable of Enosburg; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildrden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 great-granddaughters, Jessica Little and Rosanne LaPlant; 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg, with the Rev. Gerard Leclerc & the Rev. Bernard Bechard celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Sheldon. 	HILDA FORMAN McCLURE BURLINGTON — Hilda Forman McClure, 81, of Hayward Street, died on Monday, September 4, 2000 in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. She was born in Swanton on March 12, 1919, the daughter of Winfred and Agnes Forman and was married in Rutland to Charles McClure. She had worked at General Electric, IBM, and for J.C. Penney, and was a member of Christ the King Parish. Hilda is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Harold, Earle and Raymond Forman and by a sister, Leona Howard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 7, 2000 at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery in Swanton. 	EDWARD W. MEUNIER, SR. FAIRFAX — Edward Warren Meunier, Sr., age 66 passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, September 4, 2000 in Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. He was born April 7, 1934 in Colchester, the son of Edward and Helen (Warren) Meunier. He was predeceased by his father. He was a graduate of Enosburg Falls High School class of 1952, and a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as an army paratrooper in the Korean Conflict. He recently retired from Don-Vac Inc. of Williston, where he was employed for many years. Ed looked forward to the quiet times of camper traveling with his wife, Ardis – visiting Ariz. and other states. He was pleased to have been able to visit the great state of Alaska on three different occasions, where he would take great pleasure in the beautiful panoramic scenery. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by; his wife, Ardis (Billado) Meunier of Fairfax; mother, Helen (Warren) Meunier of Fairfax; three sons, Edward Meunier, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Swanton, Patrick Meunier of St. Albans, Lee Meunier and his friend, Mary Pudvah of Montgomery; three daughters, Deborah Meunier of Fairfax, Sherri Meunier of Fairfax, Diana Domina and her husband, Steven of Franklin; one brother, Robert Meunier of Fairfax; one sister, Pauline Coe and her husband, Richard of Sheldon Springs; 12 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and his very special camping partner, Cody. He was also predeceased by a sister, Beverly. Visiting hours will be held in the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Thursday evening, Sept. 7, 2000 from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the United Church of Fairfax, with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating, on Friday, Sept. 8, 2000 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the family lot in Sanderson Cners Cemetery, Fairfax. 	IRA EDWARD YANDOW WILLISTON — Ira Edward Yandow, 78, died Monday September 4, 2000 at the Vermont Respite House in Williston following a lingering illness. He was born in Williston June 9, 1922, the son of the late Orville and Agnes (Lavoie) Yandow. He was a graduate of Essex Junction High School and attended Burlington Business College. During World War II, Ira served in the U.S. Army and earned the rank of Corporal. He married Nancy E. Rock on February 21, 1945 at the Cathedral in Burlington. Ira was employed by General Electric for 20 years, retiring in 1986. Ira was an avid fisherman and was particularly fond of ice fishing. He also loved deer hunting. In recent years, he enjoyed collecting and selling antiques. Ira was formerly a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Grand Isle. He was a lifetime member of D.A.V. Chapter #17 and an active member of V.F.W. Post #782 in Burlington. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy E. (Rock) Yandow; their children, Joseph E. Yandow of Essex Junction, Conni LeBlanc of Winooski, June Poulin of Montgomery Ctr.; six grandchildren, Joy Roadcap, Kyle, Neil and Leah Yandow, Marc and Andree LeBlanc and great-granddaughter, Amber Roadcap. He was prececeased by three sons, Richard, Raymond and Michael Yandow; and his brother, Orville Yandow, Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 8, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. in Holy Family Church, Essex Junction, with burial with full military honors to follow in Holy Family Cemetery. 	MARY BALL STOWE — Mary Ball (nee O’Brien), age 67, passed away at her home in Stowe on Wednesday, September 6, 2000. She was born on January 18, 1933 in Jamaica, N.Y., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mary (Marache) and Raymond Keran O’Brien. After raising her family in River Vale, N.J., Mary Ball studied with Swiss psychiatrist Elisabeth Kubler Ross, pioneer in the field of death, dying, grief, and loss. In the mid 70’s it became clear that the bereavement and loss support systems were needed in our communities. Mrs. Ball became instrumental in the formation of “”The Center for Help in Time of Loss” and was at the forefront of Hospice Care in N.J. and N.Y. “”The Center for Help in Time of Loss” is still serving those in need and their families in Bergen County, N.J. Mrs. Ball was appointed an Adjunct Professor at Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y. She worked with nurses studying for their masters degree in Psychology and was a prominent speaker and lecturer on bereavement and loss until her retirement in 1991. Upon moving to Stowe, Mrs. Ball facilitated a local grief and loss support group and conducted seminars on issues important to women. She was a volunteer for American Red Cross fund raisers and Taste of Stowe. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Women’s Club. An avid dancer, Mrs. Ball brought ballroom dancing lessons to Stowe in the late 1990’s. She enjoyed hiking and cross country skiing, but her passion was weekly movie nights with her many friends. Mary Ball is survived by her six children. They are Mary C. Ball of Stowe, Maureen Bernard of Carmel, N.Y., Kathleen Stasio of Melbourne, Fla., Michael Ball of Carmel, Calif.; Colleen Patino of West Paterson, N.J., Suzanne Clements of Port Washington, N.Y. and nine grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Professor Keran O’Brien III of Sedona, Ariz., and Colonel Patrick O’Brien of Lake Ridge, Va. Family and friends may call in the Stafford Funeral Home in Stowe on Friday, September 8, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 9, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to a favorite charity would be appreciated.
	MARGARET E. SALISBURY RICHFORD — Margaret E. Salisbury, age 87, widow of Jack C. Salisbury, died Wednesday evening, September 6, 2000 in the Verdelle Village ECF in St. Albans. She was born in Frelighsburgh, P.Q., Canada, September 28, 1912, the daughter of the late James & Robina (Cassidy) Harvey. She was a resident of Richford most of her life and a member of the Richford United Methodist Church and United Methodist Womens Club. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Colburn of Swanton; a son, Jack H. Salisbury of Glastonbury, Conn.; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Harvey. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Richford United Methodist Church, with pastors Kate Tobey & Mike Long officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Richford. There will be no visiting hours. 	MARGARET A. WREDE MONTGOMERY CENTER — Margaret A. Wrede, age 67, widow of Henry Wrede, died Wednesday morning, September 6, 2000 at her home surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness. She was born April 11, 1933 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Henry and Frances (Wolfe) Elsasser. Marge’s two greatest passions were her grandchildren and her friends in the community. Always available to spend time with children, “”Omie’s” gift of friendship touched all she came in contact with. She is survived by 2 sons, Roy Rede of Los Angeles, Calif., and Russell Wrede and his wife, Joanne of Lisbon Falls, Maine; 1 daughter and her husband, Tracey and David Brown of Montgomery, Vt.; 1 sister, Frances Elsasser of Apache Jct., Ariz.; 4 grandchildren, Maxwell, Andrea & Taylor Wrede and Leah Brown. In keeping with Marge’s wishes, she will be cremated. Marge’s celebration of life will be held at Pratt Hall in Montgomery Village, at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon Sept. 10, 2000. 	ANNA C. ALDRICH HOWARD UNDERHILL, VT./DAVENPORT, FLA. — Anna C. Aldrich Howard, 94, of Davenport, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at her home in Fla. Ann was born in Greensburg, Pa., on Feb. 24, 1906, the daughter of Edward and Lyda (Black) Caldwell. She was a member of the United Church of Underhill. She was married to Montague Howard, Jr., who predeceased her in 1977. Ann received her education in Greensburg, Pa., graduating from Greensburg High School in 1924. She attended Indiana State Teachers College, where she received her teaching degree. Ann began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Bortz, Pa. She later taught in Export, Pa., for 10 years. Ann married Harold E. Aldrich in 1935, and they resided in Buffalo, N.Y., where they started their family. The family was transferred to Burlington, Vt. in 1943. Ann became widowed in 1948, and resumed her teaching career as first and second grade teacher at Underhill I.D. for 24 years, retiring in 1972. Ann was active in many religious and civic organizations. She was presently a member of Mary C. Burdick Chapter #6, Bethany Chapter #71, Order of the Eastern Star and King’s Daughters. Ann was a former member of Jeri-Hill Home Dem, XYZ Senior Citizens, Retired Teachers Association, Athena Club and Business and Professional Women’s Organization. Ann was a volunteer for Jericho Historical Society for the Old Mill, Meals on Wheels and many church committees. Ann enjoyed her many travels. She traveled to Europe and the Holy Lands, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and much of the Continental United States and Canada. Ann will be remembered for her love and willingness to share herself with so many others. In addition to those, Ann is survived by her five children and four stepchildren, Joanne (Aldrich) Malloy of Davenport, Fla., Ross and Dorothy Aldrich of Ithaca, N.Y., Bobby and Donna Aldrich of Colchester, Jerry and Sally Aldrich of Underhill, Jack and Connie Aldrich of Jeffersonville, Donald and Sherry Howard of Virginia Beach, Va., Ann (Howard) and John Schillhammer of South Burlington, Jack Howard of Hardwick, and Susan (Howard) and Greg Hooper of Underhill; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and three nieces, a nephew, and a cousin from Greenburg, Pa. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2000, in the Underhill Flats Cemetery, Park Street, Underhill, Vt. 	WILBUR N. (”Bing”) BINGHAM SOUTH BURLINGTON — Wilbur N. (Bing) Bingham, 90, passed away suddenly on Sept. 8, 2000 at his summer residence in Burlington. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Myrtle. He is survived by his daughters, Caral Roseberry, (Harry), and Joyce Meder, (Robert), and 6 grandchildren, Stacey Roseberry, Suzanne Perkins (Andrew), Scott Meder, (Lisa), and children Lindsey and Alex, Dale Meder, (Karen), and children Lauren and Emily, Kristen Haynes (Doug), and children Katelyn, Haley and Dakota, Glenn Meder (Jodi) and his daughter Ashley and her mother Melissa. ”Bing” was born in Bristol on July 26, 1910 and spent his childhood years in Hardwick where he met his future wife Myrtle while attending first grade. Following high school, Bing attended Colgate University in Hamilton New York and graduated in 1933. He began a 37 year career with Dun and Bradstreet in New York, where he remained until retirement in 1970. Bing began his career as a reporter and held a variety of positions including legal liason, Corporate Secretary and finally served as Vice President. Upon retirement, Bing & Myrtle moved back to their beloved Vermont and built a home overlooking Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. During retirement Bing enjoyed golf and fly fishing at the Lake Mansfield Trout Club in Stowe. In 1982, he and Myrtle moved to Tucson but continued to return to Vermont to enjoy the summer and the beautiful fall colors. He was gentle, caring soul who lived his life in a way that all who knew him aspire to. He was greatly loved and respected and will be missed by all who knew him. A private family memorial and internment will be held the end of October. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation, Colgate University Scholarship Fund or the charity of your choice.
	ROSEANNA LABELLE JOY OLD SAYBROOK, CONN. — Roseanna Labelle Joy, age 70 of Old Saybrook, Conn., died Friday, September 8, 2000 at her home. She was the wife of the late Robert Joy, and the daughter of the late Charles and Luminia (Favreau) Labelle. She was born November 3, 1929 in St. Albans, Vt. Mrs. Joy is survived by 3 sons, Lyman Desso and his wife, Linda, of East Hampton, Conn., Clifford Desso of Troy, Vt., and Clement Desso and his wife, Barbara of St. Albans, Vt.; 3 daughters, Marie Gill of Putney, Vt., Rebecca Fuller and her husband, Joel of Marlborough, Conn., and Barbara McNaughton and her husband, David of Salem, Conn. She is also survived by a sister, Bernadette Goodrich and her husband, Robert of South Burlington, Vt.; 3 stepchildren, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. in Fountain Hill Cemetery, 57 High Street, Deep River, Conn. There will be no calling hours. 	ROBERT W. KILLORAN ESSEX JUNCTION/DESTIN, FLA. — Robert W. Killoran, age 89, a lifelong resident of Essex Junction, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2000. For the last 10 years, Robert had lived with his son, John and his daughter-in-law, Linda in Destin, Fla. Robert proudly served his country as a member of the Army Air Corps during World War II. He enjoyed flying, fishing, hunting, and was an amateur radio operator. He was employed by Green Mountain Power, until the Moran Generating Station opened in Burlington, where he became on of the first watch engineers. Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Harrington Killoran; two brothers, Joseph and Phillip; and sister, Winifred Killoran Birchard. According to his wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes will be placed in the family lot in the Fairview Cemetery in Essex Junction.
	MARIE REEVES MURPHY SYRACUSE, N.Y./WINOOSKI — Marie Reeves Murphy, 84, formerly of Winooski died on September 8, 2000. Mrs. Murphy lived in Pittsfield, Massachusetts for 25 years and Winooski for 55 years before moving to Syracuse, New York in 1997. She was a former communicant of St. Stephen’s Church in Winooski. Mrs. Murphy was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Murphy in 1984. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Edward F. Murphy, former professor at St. Michael’s College in Colchester; three daughters, Frances Rork of Davenport, Iowa; Catherine Arbital and Mary Stash, both of Syracuse, N.Y.; two sons, Edward Murphy II of Winooski and David Murphy of Voorhees, New Jersey; and 12 grandchildren; Heather, Brigid, Seanan and Amber Rork; Shannon, Meaghan and Alexander Arbital; Jason, Joshua and Zachary Stash; Eavan and Daniel Murphy. Mrs. Murphy is buried at Merrill Cemetery, Colchester across from St. Michael’s College. 	DONALD RICHARD REYNOLDS, JR. PARK CITY, UTAH — Donald Richard Reynolds, Jr., age 37, passed away in a one-car accident outside Vernal, Utah on Friday, September 8, 2000 on the way to his annual hunting trip to Colo. Don was born on June 28, 1963 in Burlington, Vt. the son of Donald and Sally (Safford) Reynolds. He grew up in Jeffersonville, and graduated from Lamoille Union High School in 1981, where he was named Athlete of the Year for excellence in soccer, baseball and basketball. During his early years in Vt., hunting and fishing with his father and family and friends, Don began his lifelong love of the outdoors. He was an avid rifle and bow hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He was a sponsor member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Don moved to Utah in 1984. He married Anne Voye on May 9, 1987 in Park City, Utah. Together they welcomed their two beautiful daughters, Melissa and Heather, into the world. Don was devoted to his family, and took great joy in his daughters’ companionship and great pride in their accomplishments. Don is survived by his wife, Ann Voye Reynolds of Park City, Utah; his daughters, Melissa and Heather, also of Park City; his mother, Sally (Safford) Reynolds of Jeffersonville, Vt.; his grandmother, Dorothy Reynolds, also of Jeffersonville; and his brother, Doug and his wife, Connie and their children, Taylor and James of Westford, Vt.; and by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased earlier this year by his beloved father, Donald Reynolds, and previously by his maternal grandparents, John and Esther Safford and his paternal grandfather, Edison. Don will be deeply missed by everyone at the Wasatch Brew Pub in Park City, Utah, where he has worked since they opened their doors in 1989, first as kitchen manager, and then as general manager for the past 8 years. He was greatly respected and loved by everyone at the Brew Pub for his loyalty and fairness. He was a hard worker, who took great pride in his work. Prior to joining the Brew Pub, Don, an accomplished self-taught chef, was Chef at the Rustler Lodge in Alta, Utah and at Car 19 in Park City, Utah. Don also leaves behind many friends who loved him dearly. He had a good heart and always a kind word for everyone. He was always a pleasure to be with. We will miss his gentle humor, his venison stew, his unusual but deadly golf swing and his many kindnesses. Here’s to you, buddy. Godspeed. 	JACQUELINE C. BAKER MORRISVILLE — Jacqueline C. Baker, 57, died Saturday, September 9, 2000 in Genesis Eldercare, Morrisville, following a long illness. She was born in Morrisville on September 24, 1942, the daughter of Ernest and Isabelle (Grasette) Brown. Jackie married Delbert H. Baker on December 31, 1986. He predeceased her in July of 1995. Jackie had been employed by Concord Manufacturing for most of her working career, with her last few years being completed at the Johnson Woolen Mills. She was just presented her Life Membership of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 9653, Morrisville. In her free time, Jackie enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She is survived by her son, Delbert Ernest Baker; her sister, Norma Jean Lockamy of Morrisville; a nephew, Clayton Lockamy and a niece, Alison Parkhurst; and several cousins. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday September 26th at 1 p.m. in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Morrisville. 	JOAQUINA RUTH BARNES COLCHESTER — Joaquina “”Jackie” Barnes, 68, of Colchester, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000 in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. She was born Joaquina Brown in Lyndonville on January 16, 1932, the daughter of the late Norris and Ellen (Bedell) Brown. Jackie was employed with the Essex Junction Recreation Department as an administrative assistant for over 19 years, and was previously employed with Finast Supermarket on Williston Road in South Burlington. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Burlington. She is survived by her four sons, Gary David Barnes and his wife, Terry, of Essex Junction, Randy Robert Barnes of Essex Junction, Joel Thomas Barnes and his wife, Tina, of Colchester, and Robbin Dean Barnes of Colchester; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Erik, Gary II, Daniel, Cody, Joel, and Alexander; one sister, Ethelyn Power of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special niece, Dale Reed of Wash. She also leaves some very special friends with whom she loved to travel, play cards, and just have fun. They are Bonnie Maietta of Burlington, Jean Dastalto of Winooski, and Gloria Moody of South Burlington. Jackie was a well-known and loved member of the Chittenden County community, especially in the Essex Junction community, where she served the public for many years. She was a tenacious employee, and a died-in-the-wool “”People Person”, she was intrigued by meeting new people, and was always a great person to talk to. She was devoted to her family to a fault, and was a kind-hearted, generous person by nature. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. 	ELAINE H. BOURGEOIS PERU, N.Y. — Elaine H. Bourgeois, 72, of McIntosh Street, Peru, N.Y. died Saturday, September 9, 2000 in the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y.. She was born in Alburg, Vt. March 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Carol and Ellen (Surprise) Searles. Elaine graduated from Alburg High School in 1947. She married LeoPaul C. Bourgeois, August 25, 1951, in Alburg, Vt. She was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Peru, N.Y., and summer member of St. Anne’s Shrine in Isle La Motte, Vt. and a member of the Peru Senior Citizens Center. She volunteered in all aspects of Peru, N.Y. and Alburg, Vt. She enjoyed indoor flowers, and cooking. 	JAMES HENRY “”JAMIE” DOW MIDDLEBURY — James Henry “”Jamie” Dow, age 45, passed away in Helen Porter Nursing Home on Sept. 9, 2000. He was born June 14, 1955 in Middlebury, the son of Percy and Ruth (Turner) Dow. He was a graduate of Middlebury Union High School. He was employed as a chef at Middlebury College from 1973-1989. He married Judy Jordan on June 8, 1974 in the United Methodist Church. James was a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He enjoyed hunting, nature, fly fishing and fly tying. He had created his own fly fishing pole. He is survived by his wife, Judy Dow; his parents, Percy and Ruth Dow; his sons, Paul and Jonathan Dow; his daughter, Julie Dow and her companion, Earl Bennett; his brother, Stephen Dow and his wife, Elizabeth; his sisters, Cynthia Dow of Burlington and Mary Dow of Salisbury; and his loving extended family. 	PAULINE M. NADEAU SINCLAIRVILLE, N.Y./MILTON, VT. — Pauline M. Nadeau, 58, of 5729 Route 380, Sinclairville, N.Y., died Saturday, September 9, 2000 in Sister of Charity Hospital in Buffalo. She was born in Burlington on September 18, 1941, the daughter of the late Russell and Yvonne (Juaire) Ward. Mrs. Nadeau attended Burlington High School and the Vermont College of Cosmetology in Burlington. She maintained a cosmetology license for 20 years, and was a past manager and pharmacy technician for City Drug stores in South Burlington. A past president of the Altar Society of St. Ann’s Church in Milton, she also had belonged to the Vermont Cursillo and the Vermont Marriage Encounter. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Dunkirk, N.Y., and Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Cassadaga, N.Y. Survivors include her husband, Deacon Thomas D. Nadeau, whom she married November 26, 1964; two sons, Mark T. Nadeau and Matthew T. 	ALMA F. SHERWIN ORMOND BEACH, FLA./BRISTOL — Alma F. Sherwin passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2000 at her home in Fla. She was born in Bristol on December 6, 1908, the daughter of Susan (Smith) and George Farr. Alma graduated from Bristol High School and the University of Vermont. She was the Addison County Superior Court Clerk for 30 years, retiring in 1981. Surviving Alma are her son, Paul and his wife, Polly; and four grandchildren, whom she raised as her own children: Arnell, Scot, Jeff, Cindy; and their children, Benjamin, Amie, Delaney, Spencer, Adam, Nick, Hannah, and Curtis. 	REV. MICHAEL KERWIN MADDEN WARREN — The Rev. Michael Kerwin Madden, 58, of Warren died suddenly Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, while vacationing in Austria. Michael Madden was born Aug. 31, 1942, in Waterbury, Conn., the son of Rita (Kerwin) Madden and the late John Madden. He left his hometown of Wolcott, Conn., to attend Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa., graduating in 1966. Father Madden was ordained from the Holy Ghost Fathers in Vermont and was longtime pastor of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Waitsfield and St. Patrick’s Church in Moretown. Besides his mother, he leaves a brother, Mark Madden, of Wolcott, Conn. A memorial service is planned for Oct. 21, 2000, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church in Waits- field.

	NATALIA ”LINETTE” BERTIN BURLINGTON — Natalia ”Linette” Bertin, age 95, died Monday, September 11, 2000 in the Fletcher Allen Health Care hospital in Burlington, Vermont. She was born Natalia Bastie to Paul Bastie and Caroline Turin in the town of San Giovanni, Italy, in the beautiful Italian alps. She married Lamy Bertin in 1927. He predeceased her in 1987. Her brother Henri and his wife Anita, as well as her sister Antoinette, also predeceased her. She had the good fortune of having received an advanced education at a lycee and business school in Italy, uncommon for a woman her age. Her longest and most rewarding occupation was as owner of Les Charmettes, a hotel/pension in Cannes, France. Her most trying times were the World War II years in France, made more difficult and dangerous by her involvement with the French resistance in the Lyon/Montpelier region. Among her many attributes were tenacity and courage. After WWII, she came to New York City, where she remained until her move to Vermont in 1989. She had the pleasure of experiencing the birth and maturing of three wonderful grandchildren, and most recently her first great-grandchild. She lived at the Converse Home assisted living facility in Burlington, staffed by exceptional dedicated people, and was very happy and healthy until hours before her death. Her son Claude Bertin and his wife Julie survive her. She is survived as well by her grandson, Robert Bertin and his wife Lisa, her grandson David Bertin; her granddaughter, Suzanne Campbell and her husband Dan; her great-grandson, Daniel R. Campbell III; as well as nieces Lillian Bertin and Silvia Armand-Pilon and her husband Mario; and her dear cousin and friend Rina Bertin. She will be cremated and buried next to her husband in Pine Lawn Cemetery in Long Island, N.Y. There will be a service celebrating her life at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2000 in Converse Home, 272 Church Street, Burlington. 	VERONICA “”BABE” BOSLEY BURLINGTON — Veronica “”Babe” Bosley, 82, of 98 Starr Farm Road and formerly of 72 Heineburg Road, died Monday, September 11, 2000 in the Starr Farm Nursing Center. She was born in Alburg on March 17, 1918, the daughter of the late Victor and Mamie (Mitchell) Benway. Babe married Victor Bosley on November 25, 1937 in St. Amadeus Catholic Church in Alburg. They had 59 devoted years together until he predeceased her on February 3, 1997. She was a seamstress for many years and did alterations for many people in the Burlington area. She was a member of St. Mark’s Parish. Babe enjoyed shopping, garage sales, and in the last few years took great pleasure in shopping for Beanie Babies to add to her large collection. She is survived by her special niece, whom she loved as a daughter, Pat Francis and her husband, Gary of Colchester, and many other nieces and nephews. 	MARIE ROSE DEMERS ST. ALBANS/SWANTON — Mrs. Marie Rose Demers, age 92, died Monday morning, September 11, 2000, in the Northwestern Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was born in Notre Dame de Standbridge, Quebec, November 17, 1907, daughter of the late Ulderic and Rose (De Lima) Noel. She was married to Elie Demers on September 5, 1927 and worked with him on his dairy farm. After just over 60 years of marriage, Mr. Demers died November 28, 1987. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church, a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and a former member of the Holy Angels Mothers Club. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Helene and Jacques Bourbeau of Swanton, Pauline and Roger Renaud of Sturbridge, Mass., Armand and Molly (O’Sullivan) Demers of Port Charlotte, Fla., Andre and Priscilla (Therrien) Demers of So. Windsor, Conn., Marcel Demers of Engelwood, Fla.; 2 sisters-in-law, Lillian Tarte of Phoenix, Ariz., Simonne Noel of Swanton; 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was prececeased by her parents; husband, Elie; a son, Bernard Demers at one-year of age; three brothers, Antonio, Onias and John Noel. 	SISTER VERONICA HAYES BURLINGTON — Sister Veronica Hayes (Sister M. Martha) of the Sisters of Mercy of Vermont died at Mount Saint Mary Convent, Burlington, on Monday, September 11, 2000. She was born the daughter of Patrick and Anna (Archambault) Hayes on February 22, 1908 in Enosburg Falls, where she received her early education. She graduated from Mount Saint Mary Academy and received a B.S. in Education at Trinity College and an M.A. in English from Saint Michael’s College. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on February 2, 1927 and made first profession of vows on August 16, 1929. Sister Veronica taught in elemetary schools at Cathedral, Mount Saint Mary and Mater Christi (Burlington), Saint Monica’s School (Barre), Saint Michael’s School (Montpelier), Saint Mary’s School (Middlebury), and in high school, Mount Saint Mary Academy (Burlington). She was principal of Saint Mary’s School in Middlebury from 1946-1952 and of Mount Saint Mary Academy from 1953-1961. After serving as local superior of the Mount Saint Mary Convent, she was elected Mother General (President) of the Sisters of Mercy of Vermont and served in this office from 1962-1972. During her administration, she participated in the Federation of the Sisters of Mercy of America; led the community through changes in the religious habit, the Constitutions, and other implementations of Vatican II; the construction of Mater Christi Elementary School, the renovation of the former Mount Saint Mary Academy to become Mater Christi Middle School. Upon retirement from full-time classroom teaching and administration, she taught Drama and Elocution at Mater Christi School, visited the sick and elderly at Saint Ambrose Parish in Bristol, and was on the Liturgy Planning Committee at Saint Mary’s Convent. Sister Veronica is survived by her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Mercy of Vt.; and by Mrs. Robert (Veronica) Brooks and her family; Mr. and Mrs. James Hayes and family; a special niece, Becky Hayes Blanchard and husband, Rene; Mr. and Mrs. John Hayes and family; Dr. and Mrs. Don Guinan and family; cousins Rene Read and his wife, Lee, Francis Archambault of Bethesda, Md., and Sister Rhea Bean, RSM, N.Y.; as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. 	MARIE PERRY MARSHFIELD — Marie Perry, 70, died at her home Monday, September 11, 2000. Marie was born in Bristol, May 19, 1930, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Bushey) Desorda. She was a graduate of Bristol High School, marrying Roger Perry August 30, 1951. For over 20 years, she was employed by Twinfield Elementary School as a teachers aide. Marie will be remembered by her family for her devotion to them and her grandchildren. Survivors include a step-son, Richard Perry of Danville; her daughters, Gail Greaves and husband, Tim of Cabot, Linda Hartshorne and husband, Jim of Marshfield, and Sheila Booth and husband, Tim of Marshfield. Marie was predeceased by her husband on August 5, 1984, and by three brothers, Francis, Earl and Lawrence Desorda. 	MARILYN M. TROMBLY NORTHFIELD — Marilyn M. Trombly, 78, died peacefully with her family at her side Monday, September 11, 2000, at her home in Northfield. She was born in Keene, N.H. July 13, 1922, the daughter of Marshall and Mary (Sayah) Murray. For all who knew her, Marilyn’s courage, tenacity, and fortitude throughout many challenging years of illness are a testament to her never-ending faith and love for life. A devoted mother, her greatest achievement was the lifelong nurturing of her children and grandchildren. Marilyn dedicated all her talent and resources to her life’s ambition, which was to see her children through a formal education. Attracted by Vermont’s beauty, Marilyn Evelyn Murray moved to Northfield in her youth, where she met her future husband, Lloyd Charles Trombly. The couple were married by Reverend Joyce on November 6, 1941, in St. John the Evangelist Church in Northfield. Lloyd and Marilyn owned and operated Trombly’s Greenhouses for more than fifty years, and were recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Northfield Business & Professional Association. Her enthusiasm for her profession was evident to all who visited her over the years. Marilyn took great pride in propagating unique specimen plants. Her love of German sheperds was well known by the many people whom Caesar “”met” at the door. Survivors include four sons, Lloyd Trombly, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, of Milton, Robert Trombly of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Richard Trombly and his wife, Margaret, of Northfield, Thomas Trombly and his wife, Dawn, also of Northfield; one daughter, Maria Trombly Ryder and her husband, Ted, of Falls Church, Va.; two brothers, Roland and Larry Murray of Wyetheville, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Burlington, Vt., he was the son of the late Carroll J. and Daisy (Sturdevant) Bottum and lived in Wethersfield for many years. A graduate of Mt. Hermon Academy and the University of Illinois, he was a Certified Public Accountant for over forty-four years. He was a member of the Conn. Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Wethersfield Country Club. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen Kinney of Simsbury, Conn., and Diana Godfrey of Syracuse, N.Y.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Marguerite B. 	KENNETH LLOYD BUCKLIN DELTONA, Fla. — KENNETH “”Bucky” Bucklin, 57, an automotive instructor for Tomoka Correctional Institute, Daytona Beach, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at home surrounded by his family. In 1995, he retired from South Burlington Street Department after 14 years and moved to Deltona, Fla., from Essex Junction. Ken was born in Rutland, Vt., on Aug. 7, 1943, to the late Kenneth F. and Martha W. (Baker) Bucklin. He was a member of NASCAR and ACT Racing, Champlain Valley Street Rodders, The Deltona Gold Wing Road Rider Association and former president of the Super Hogs. Ken enjoyed race cars, motorcycles, and hot rods but dedicated himself to his family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Betty; two sons, David Milton and Kenneth Jr. of Burlington, Vt.; two daughters, Amanda Bucklin and Christine Kane and her husband, Tim, both of Deltona; a brother, Frederick and his wife, Sharron, of Debary; three grandchildren, Shanna and Cassandra Kane, and Frank DeCarr; his father-in-law, Frank Rose of Colchester, Vt.; his in-laws, Lisa and Jim Purvis of Deltona, Dale and Diane Rose of Addison, Vt., and Therese Whitehouse of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. 	LIONEL L. PARENT ENOSBURG FALLS/ST. ALBANS — Lionel L. Parent, age 85, died Tuesday evening, September 12, 2000 in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, following a period of declining health. He was born December 16, 1914 in St. Alphonse de Granby, P.Q., Canada, the son of the late Albert & Lydia (Dragon) Parent. He moved with his family to Vermont in 1920, and resided in Berkshire and Enosburg most of his life, and for the last 5 and one half ars he made his home with his son and daughter-in-law in St. Albans. He owned and operated the former Marvin Farm in East Berkshire from 1943 to 1963. For the next 30 years, he operated a waste hauling business in Enosburg Falls, one he purchased from his father, a family enterprise that endured for almost 50 years. Having to retire at the age of 78 due to ill health, Lionel’s always cheerful smile and wave was missed by many longtime patrons. His interests included gardening and watching any discussion of politics on television, especially any oration by a democrat. A Roosevelt Democrat to the core, he would always take great satisfaction if a democrat bested a republican in a national election; taking on an almost Red Sox-Yankee fan’s fervor. He married Freida Larivee in 1942, she predeceased him in 1981. He is survived by 2 sons, and their wives, Lionel A. & Carol Parent of Clinton, Mass., and Leonard J. & Dianne Parent of St. Albans; 5 grandchildren, Pamela Silvester of Tampa, Fla., John Parent of Clinton, Mass., Lee Audra Parent of Worcester, Mass. 	FLOYD T. “”SMITTY” SMITH BURLINGTON — Floyd T. “”Smitty” Smith, 83, of Burlington passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2000 with his family at his side. He was born July 1, 1917 in Burlington the son of George and Mary (Bleau) Smith. For many years, he worked as a truck driver and mechanic, retiring after twenty plus years of service from International Harvester. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris (Peters) and their four children, Joan Upson, Floyd T. Jr. (“”Tom”), Dana and Debbie Jones; two grandsons, Michael and Benjamin; two granddaughters, Kim with son, Christopher Ross, Jill and Kevin with daughter, Kaitlin and son, Kevin Thomas; his sisters, Ida Hall and Marjorie Cassalla; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Gina Merleni; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who had a special love for his deer camp and all his hunting buddies. Each spring, he looked forward to sugaring. He was a remarkable man who touched many lives. He could fix anything and would do anything to help anyone who needed it. He was well liked, respected, loved and admired by all. He will forever be in our hearts and will be deeply missed. 	PENNY SUE DeROSE JOHNSON — Penny Sue DeRose, age 38, of Johnson, died peacefully after a short illness with her family by her side Wednesday September 13, 2000 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. She was born August 10, 1962 the daughter of Robert and Patricia (Estabrook) DeRose. She attended grade school at the Peoples Academy, and graduated from Lamoille Union High School in 1980. Penny worked at Johnson State College as a bookkeeper, and Immediate Care, and Copley Hospital as patient registrar and a receptionist. She was an avid reader and a very talented crafts person who was very outgoing and well liked by everyone who knew her. She was always there to extend a helping hand to others in need. She is survived by her parents; Robert and Patricia DeRose of South Burlington, two brothers; Joel and his wife Kiristen Hoyt of Gilsum, New Hampshire, Timothy and his wife Wendy DeRose of North Wolcott, and several nieces and nephews. 	JOHN PAUL DETWEILER WILLISTON –John Paul Detweiler, 84, of Williston, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Ohio on January 3, 1916 the son of the late Clarence E. and Maude A. (Hartzler) Detweiler. He was the husband of Mary Louise (Messner) who predeceased him in May of 1995. He is survived by his three daughters and their spouses, Barbara and Doug Mongeon of Rolla, North Dakota, Carol and Doug Parker of Williston, and Rebecca and Robert Essex of Landover Hills, Maryland; four grandchildren, Brad and Mary-Margaret Parker and John and Hilary Essex. 	KENNETH A. JENNISON BURLINGTON — Kenneth A. Jennison, 91, of Charlotte Street, died Sept. 13, 2000 after a brief illness. He was born March 12, 1909, in Swanton, son of the late Morton and Nellie (Garvin) Jennison. Ken married Hilda Richardson in 1933. They recently celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary. He graduated from Burlington High School and then went to work for the former Burlington Grocery Company. He remained with them for 51 years until his retirement in 1975. He is survived by his wife, Hilda; daughters, Kathryn Cimini of Pittsfield, Mass., and Elizabeth and her husband, William Adams of Essex Junction. Grampa will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren; Mark, Kathryn, Robert, and Michelle, Christine and Kyle and their families, including 10 great-grandchildren. Ken was a man with a great sense of humor and a lot of energy, who enjoyed talking over the days events with the neighbors in his daily walks on Charlotte Street, and at his summer camp on Thompson’s Point. He enjoyed working on projects at his house and camp, where he had a unique way of making things work. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church, the Shriners and the Barber Shoppers. 	STEPHEN WEBSTER SHARP MILTON — Stephen Webster Sharp, 35, died Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at his home in Milton, following a long illness. Stephen was born in South Weymouth, Mass. on January 10, 1965, the son of David and Nancy (Webster) Sharp. Stephen was a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Society in Burlington. He was the President and CEO of the Green Candle Theatre Company of Burlington. He was also a member of the Greater Burlington Theatre Arts Exchange. He was a representative to the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce. He was also the recipient of a Community Arts Program Award presented by the Burlington City Arts Council for creating the Growling Pup Theatre, a summer long theatre festival. 	ELIZABETH ANNE “”BETTY” BABBITT ENOSBURG FALLS — Elizabeth Anne “”Betty” Babbitt, age 77, widow of Bruce S. Babbitt, died Thursday, September 14, 2000 in the Fletcher Allen Health Care center in Burlington, with her family and friends by her side. She was born July 20, 1923 in Scituate, Mass., the daughter of the late David & Mercy Elliot (Cole) LaVange. Betty loved her dear husband, Bruce Samuel Babbitt, they met in the 7th grade at a summer Sunday hool picnic and started dating in their sophomore year in high school. They were married in 1943, before Bruce served in World War I. Following the war they made their home in Massachusetts where they raised their family. In 1973, they moved to Enosburg Falls, Vt. Betty wrote in her autobiography, “”He was kind, gentle, wise & loving. He made me proud to be me because I knew him. I thank God that I was given the incredible gift of him to have & share for forty short years”. Betty felt blessed to be surrounded by her friends and family; Cordy, Anne, James, Ben & Kristen; her children, Bonnie Valliere of Hawley, Penn., and Robert Babbitt of Scituate, Mass.; a grandson and his wife, Michael & Joyce; a granddaughter and her husband, Marcy & Ted; her sister, Margaret Yvonne LaVange. She found great joy in her great-granddaughters, Sarah & Allison. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Marista LaVange and Ruth Alice LaVange; a brother, David Cole LaVange. 	BERNARD F. BAPP NORTH HYDE PARK — Bernard F. Bapp, 54, died unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon, September 14, 2000 in Copley Hospital, Morrisville. Bernie was born in Barre on June 10, 1946. He was raised in Hyde Park, however, by his parents, Euretta and Howard Smith, who have predeceased him. A 1965 graduate of Lamoille Central Academy, Bernie participated in school sports and attended Green Mountain Boys State in 1964. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force, serving until 1969. Upon returning from the service, he married the former Eva M. Bedell on April 11, 1970. Bernie was a highly skilled and recognized electrician in northern Vermont. He was employed by Delta Electric for 30 years, until recently joining Hegeman Electric in Burlington. Physical activities were always things that Bernie loved to be involved in, especially hunting and fishing. His camp in Garfield was his special place. Even to be out berry picking brought Bernie satisfaction and contentment. Bernie also loved sports, and was a big Red Sox fan. Besides his wife, Eva, he is survived by his son, Quint L. Bapp, and his wife, Karie; his faithful and loving dog, Mae; sisters, Hilda Tallman and Rhoda Reed and her husband, Clifford; a brother, Donald Smith and his wife, Edith; a predeceased brother, Robert Smith, in Jan. of 2000; his birth mother, Beula Smith; 4 other sisters, Brenda Wells, Debbie Webb and her husband, Larry, Barbie White and her husband, David, and Beverly Allen and her husband, Richard; his mother-in-law, Edna Bedell; 2 sisters-in-law, Rhoda Bedell and friend, Leon Whitcomb, and Barbara Darrah and her husband, David; several nieces, nephews, and longtime friends. 	ELAINE V. (RICHARDS) BLANCHARD BURLINGTON — Elaine V. (Richards) Blanchard, of 135 Woodbury Road in Burlington passed away peacefully September 14th at The Pines Rehabilitation and Health facility in Lyndonville after a long illness. She was born November 6, 1921 in Norfolk, New York, the daughter of Elmer G. and Doris Nettie (Hayes) Richards. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Murdock Blanchard September 17, 1973 and recently by her grandson, Jason J. (Jay) Johnston of Jericho She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Burlington and until her illness she enjoyed the activities and her friends at the Heineberg Club. During her lifetime she was an avid gardener while also enjoying swimming and dancing. She is survived by her two daughters Mindy (Blanchard) Carlson of Burlington and her partner Thomas Dion and Cindie (Blanchard) Davis and her husband Dean of Jericho. She is also survived by one grandchild Anthony P. Johnston and his wife, Vicki-Anne and their son Jason T. Johnston of Columbus, Georgia and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Richards of Norfolk, N.Y. along with several nephews and their families. 	REV. DR. DONALD FISHER CAMPBELL WEYBRIDGE — A Celebration of Life for the Rev. Dr. Donald Fisher Campbell, age 91, who passed away Friday evening, September 15, 2000 at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury, will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at 3 p.m. at the Middlebury Congregational Church. The Rev. David Andrews, Pastor, and other clergy will co-officiate. He was born July 1, 1909 in Cranbury, N.J., a son of William J. and Jennie (Bowers) Campbell. He studied at Rutgers University, the University of Vermont, and the University of Missouri, where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree. He obtained a Master of Divinity Degree from Western Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1937, followed by a Master’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh and graduate studies at Cambridge University in England. During this time, he met Charlotte Emma Morris, whom he married in New Hampshire on August 31, 1934. From 1938 until 1945, Dr. Campbell served three Presbyterian churches in the Pittsburgh, Pa. area. From 1945 until his retirement in 1975, Dr. Campbell served as pastor for the First Presbyterian Church in Stamford, Conn. During this period, he served the Presbyterian denomination in various local and national capacities, and many community organizations in the Stamford area. Following his retirement in 1975, the couple moved to Weybridge, from where Dr. Campbell served as interim pastor for various parishes in the area. He was a member of the Rotary Clubs in both Middlebury and Stamford, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; his sons, the Rev. William Campbell and his wife Carol, of Circleville, Ohio; David Campbell and his wife Cuc of Medford, Mass; and D. Bruce Campbell of Rutland; his grandchildren, Catherine Campbell Wright and her husband Aaron, Elizabeth Campbell, Donald Campbell, Tram Campbell, and Trang Campbell; and his great-granddaughter, Anna Wright. He was predeceased by seven siblings. 	MARION E. GOODHEART, PhD BURLINGTON — Marion E. Goodheart, 69, formerly of 230 St. Paul St. died on Saturday, September 16, 2000 in Burlington Health and Rehabilitation. She was born the second child of Cecil and Katherine (Tierney) Goodheart on May 7, 1931 in Moretown. Growing up involved much moving, many schools, and a very restricted life-style. She graduated from Waitsfield High School in 1949 with high honors. Marion received advanced degrees in elementary education from Johnson Teacher’s College in 1963. She received two master’s degrees in educating exceptional people, in psychology as a counselor and therapist, and a PhD in philosophy. She was always employed in educational positions, moving on from classroom teaching to supervisory, coordinator, and consultant positions. Her fiance, Dr. Martin Poirer, was killed in Vietnam in 1972. Marion was professed as a Carmelite Lay Sister. She chose the name Sister Mary Joseph of the Holy Family. Her ministry was love and care of children and their families. A committal service will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, Duxbury, 3 blocks from where she was born, on Saturday September 30, 2000 at 1 p.m. Her monument reads “”And so with joy into the allness of God. 	MARY (BLOW) GORDON BURLINGTON — Mary E. Gordon, 63, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday evening, September 16, 2000, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Bristol, Conn. on December 16, 1936, the daughter of Harvey and Lillian (Puritan) Blow. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was an avid Bingo player who will be well remembered at the Heineberg Club and St. Joseph’s Bingos. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 47 years, Harry A. Gordon of Burlington; their five children: Robert Gordon, Nora Bellew, Harry W. Gordon and Randy Gordon, all of Burlington, and John Gordon of Winooski; 11 grandchildren, one great granddaughter; her sisters, Doris Lamotte of Burlington and Helen Bessette of Hinesburg; her brother, Erwin Blow of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends, all of whom were special. She was pre-deceased by an infant son; four brothers; and one sister. 	RITA M. MORRIS BURLINGTON — Rita M. Morris, 81, of 72 Heineberg Road, Burlington, died on Saturday, September 16, 2000 in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Rita was born in Winooski on April 1, 1919, daughter of the late Vitalien and Angelina (Ducharme) Landry. She was married in Winooski in 1938 to Melvin Morris, who predeceased her on March 20, 1995. Rita is survived by two daughters, Karen Mullen and her husband, Peter of Colchester and Nancy Houle and her husband, Ray of Henderson, Nev.; seven grandchildren, Michael, Jeffrey, Timothy and James Mullen, Karen DeLano, Lori Newton and Anne Houle; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Gertrude Landry, Eleanor Raymond, Ramona Frattarola and Evelyn Hyder; and by several nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by three brothers, Albert Landry, Arthur Landry, and Ernest Landry; and by four sisters, Dora Houle, Louisa Brisson, Florence Ahern, and Irene Franze. 	MARIAN ELIZABETH NEILL (SNOW) PULLMAN, WASH. — Marian Elizabeth Neill (Snow) died Saturday morning, September 16, in the Palouse Hills Nursing Center in Pullman, Wash., after a long illness. Mrs. Snow was a longtime resident of Burlington. Born in Pullman, Wash. May 27, 1913, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Washington State University, receiving a B.A. degree in Languages and was active in Kappa Alpha Theta. Mrs. Snow worked for many years as an editor in the U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service. She married Albert G. Snow, Jr., also from Wash. state, and a graduate of Washington State University, on July 9, 1935. Mr. Snow was associated with the U.S. Forest Service and was prominent in maple research in Burlington. Mrs. Snow leaves two daughters, Susan Snow Collins in Boynton Beach, Fla. and Elizabeth Snow Flynn in Millsboro, Del.; along with a sister, Barbara Johnson of Pullman; a two brothers, Greg Neill of Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Tom Neill, Sr. of Pullman. She also leaves five grandchildren; Ian Schmidt, in the 8th grade in Boynton Beach, Larry Ball in Glenview, Ill., Karen Jordan in Tuxedo, N.C., Kathy Ball in Cary, N.C., Diane Silverman in Seattle, and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Snow was a long-time member of the Baptist Church in Burlington. Mrs. Snow’s dry with, keen sense of humor, and sparkling laugh were a tonic for all. She was a kind, compassionate person, a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She leaves a priceless legacy of love, compassion, and spiritual nourishment to all that were privileged to know her. Her extraordinary strength buoyed up countless people along the way, including her family and all that called on her for attention of assistance. She touched many lives and made them better, even as she lay ill herself. She wa and remains, “”the wind beneath our wings”, and will be truly missed. We send her on her way with undying gratitude and hearts filled with love and remembrance for all that she did for us. 	RICHARD J. SHULER WINOOSKI — Richard J. Shuler, 42, of Winooski, died unexpectedly Saturday, September 16, 2000 in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born in Newark, N.J. on August 27, 1958, the son of Rick and Joyce (Couture) Shuler. He attended Rice Memorial High School, and graduated from South Burlington High School in 1976. He was a self-employed general contractor. He is survived by his wife, Diane; and three children, Melissa, Ricky, and Shane, all of Winooski; his mother, Joyce Shuler of St. Johnsbury; two brothers, Larry and his wife, Yvette of Va., and Leslie of Mass.; one sister, Beatrice Bissonette and her husband, Patrick, of N.H.; and nieces and nephews. 	ALDEN O. ADAMS EDEN — Alden O. Adams, 74, died following a long and courageous struggle on Sunday morning, September 17, 2000 in Copley Hospital in Morrisville, with his family by his side. He was born in Eden on Sept. 6, 1926, the son of Nathan and Ethel (McNally) Adams. On October 12, 1948, Alden married the former Mary Mudgett. Alden was employed at the asbestos mines in Lowell for many years before becoming a self employed carpenter. His greatest joy in his life was his family. He participated in many outdoor activities with them, such as hunting, spending many seasons at deer camp, ice fishing, and camping. He also had a good time with his many friends. He enjoyed dancing, and playing cards. A major part of his time was his devotion to his Masonic life. Alden was a 53 year member of Mt. Norris Lodge #69 F.& A.M., and a member of Mt. Sinai Temple A.A.O.N.M.A. of Montpelier, Vt., Scottish Rite, Valley of Burlington, and Coral Chapter #16 O.E.S, Morrisville. Alden served as District Deputy for the Masons and Order of the Eastern Star. He also held the offices of Grand Junior Deacon and Grand Tyler in Grand Lodge of Vermont F. & A.M. Serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict, Alden belonged to V.F.W. Post 9653, Morrisville. He was also a member of the Eden Congregational Church. Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by five children and their spouses, Carol Hayden and E. Nate, Judy Morse and Stephen, Scott Adams and Michele, all of Hyde Park, Lloyd Adams and Lori of Waterville, and Brenda McKinney and Dennis of Woodbridge, Va.; a special niece and her husband, Sharon and James Hall of Morrisville; 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. A memorial service and Masonic services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the Eden Congregational Church, with committal services following in the Eden Corners Cemetery. 	RAYMOND W. “”JOE” BRONSON ST. ALBANS — Raymond W. “”Joe” Bronson, 70, a lifelong St. Albans resident, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Sunday afternoon, September 17, 2000. He was born in St. Albans December 30, 1929, the son of the late Lee F. and Alvina (Raymond) Bronson. Joe was a retired postal clerk at the St. Albans Post Office, where he worked for 30 years, retiring March 1, 1986. On September 25, 1999 in Franklin, he married Nancy J. Anderson, who survives him. His first wife, former St. Albans City Clerk and Treasurer, Patricia (Magnant) Bronson, died January 20, 1993. Joe was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Army from 1948 to 1951, earning the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars. He then served full time in the Vermont National Guard from 1953 to 1959, and retired from the National Guard as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1969, after more than 20 years of service. He graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1948, and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a Past Commander, Finance Officer, 50 year and Life member of Green Mountain Post #1, American Legion, a member for 41 years of St. Albans Lodge #1566, BPOE, a life member of Robert E. Glidden Post 758, VFW, and belonged to Voiture 786, 40 & 8 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Joe was instrumental in the organization of the American Legion’s involvement in “”Operation Happiness”, where he served as Financial Officer. He was also a proud donor to the American Red Cross Blood Bank, where he gave more than 20 gallons. Following his retirement from Postal Service, Joe worked as a courier for A.N. Deringer, Inc. Joe is survived by his wife, Nancy of St. Albans; his two sons and their wives, Tom and Gloria Bronson of Milton, and William J. and Suzanne Bronson of St. Albans; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Glenn Wilson, formerly of Williston, now of Bradenton, Fla. He also leaves a brother and three sisters, Robert and his wife, Faith Bronson of Rouses Pt., N.Y., Barbara Soule of Lakewood, Fla., Ruth Miller of Avon, N.Y., and Avis Maynard of St. Albans; sisters-in-law, Barbara and her husband, Vic Dubanevich of Springfield, Vt., Jane Magnant of St. Albans, and Jean Magnant of Maple Glen, Pa.; and seven grandchildren, Hale, Jordana, Kimberly, and Kyle Bronson, and Jessica, Rachel, and Sara Cioffi. He also leaves five step-children, their spouses and children, Christopher and Cathy Anderson, Stephen and Martha Anderson, Jennifer and David Hauck, Sarah and Ted Gilbert and Rebecca and William Mattoon; also a close cousin, Cassie Nutter of St. Albans, other cousins, many special nieces and nephews, and his Thursday morning coffee partner, Cindy Nye. 	ERNEST HENRY (ERN) EMMONS HINESBURG — Ernest H. Emmons, 84, passed away September 17, 2000, after a short illness. He was born in Richmond, Vt. on January 4, 1916. He was the son of the late Charles and Caroline Emmons. Ernest grew up on the farm, then became a logger and mill worker for over 30 years. At age 50, he became self employed in the rubbish removal business, until he was in his 70’s. During all those years, Ernest fished, hunted, trapped and rvested ginseng to further enrich his life and the lives of his family. Ernest is survived by his wife, Mae (Nattress) Emmons. They were married in 1936 and enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Ernest is survived by his 7 children, Paul and his wife, ArLouine, Robert, Rand, and his wife, Joanne, Linda and her husband, Lynn Ramsey, Gerald and his wife, Shirley, Yvonne and her husband, William Carney, and Conrad and his wife, Lucille. Ernest is survived by two brothers, Leo and his wife, Margarete of Va., Herbert and his wife, Earlene of N.H.; four sisters, Mildred French, Ila Pecor, Mary Sears, and Sylvia Bradford. Ernest was predeceased by his brothers, Earl Sr., Melvin, Clinton, Sr. and Clifford. His sisters, Louella Garvey and Viola Emmons. He is survived by his brother-in-law, George Nattress, and sisters-in-law, Margaret Linehan and Grace Cole. Ernest was very proud of his 28 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. 	GERTRUDE W. PLOOF COLCHESTER — Gertrude W. Ploof, (known affectionately as “”Jule”) of Colchester, died on Sunday, September 17, 2000, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. She was 92 years old. Jule was born in Cape Cod, Mass. on May 11, 1908, the youngest daughter of William and Mary (Powers) Sheehan. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Julius Leo Ploof, on December 22, 1999. Jule was an artist and had a love for red roses, visiting with friends, had a wonderful laugh, a wonderful heart and everyone whose lives she touched has been blessed. She touched many lives. She is survived by one niece, Robin House and her husband Kevin of Fairfax; and a special friend, Margaret Marshall of Colchester. She was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. 	ALBERT O. VENNER JR ENOSBURG FALLS — Albert O. Venner Jr., 84, died Sunday, September 17, 2000 at the Verdelle Village ECF in St. Albans. He was born April 24, 1916, in Barre, the son of the late Albert O. and Alme Rose (Willette) Venner. He was a resident of Enosburg Falls since 1983 and was a former resident of Brattleboro. He was employed at Agway in Brattleboro for several years retiring in 1979. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He is survived by a brother, Francis W. Venner of Barre; a sister, Jennie Sweet of Albany, NY; three step sons, William Baker of Waterville, Hollis Baker of Plainfield, Conn., and Harland Baker of Cannan, Conn.; one step daughter, Fern Arel of St. Albans; 20 step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; one step great great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. 	RUTH R. BOISSELLE WILLISTON — Ruth R. Boisselle, age 75, died suddenly at her home in Williston, Monday, September 18, 2000. She was born March 7, 1925, the daughter of the late Emil and Albertine (Cushing) Mercure. Ruth attended Winooski Schools, and was married in St. Stephen’s Catholic Church on December 1, 1945 to Henry Boisselle. During World War II, Ruth was employed by the American Woolen Mill and the Porter Screen Company, and most recently by the Econo Lodge in South Burlington for several years, until her retirement in 1987. Among her many interests, she enjoyed bingo and playing cards with her friends. She was also a member of R.S.V.P. and C.C.V.A. Programs, and the Williston Senior Center. Ruth is survived by her husband, Henry J. Boisselle of Williston; two sons, Henry E. November 4, 1925, the son of the late Birney and Ida May (Duso) Deaette. Frank was a former resident of Burlington, Vt., where he was employed as an Inventory Clerk at Hagar Hardware for 42 years, retiring in 1988. 	VIRGINIA ANNE (O’BRIEN) FAYETTE BURLINGTON — Virginia Anne (O’Brien) Fayette, 73, died on Monday, September 18, 2000 in the Vermont Respite House, Williston, following a battle with cancer. Virginia was born on April 9, 1927 in New Rochelle, N.Y., the daughter of Donald and Florence (Duffy) O’Brien. She graduated from St. Gabriel’s High School in New Rochelle, in 1946, and Trinity College in Burlington in 1950. She married James Fayette in Burlington in 1952. Virginia was a resident of Shelburne for almost 50 years. She was active in the community as a past member of the Shelburne Zoning Commission, and an active member of Saint Catherine’s Parish and Blessed Rafka Maronite Center. Virginia was predeceased by her father, (1963), her mother, (1974), her brothers, Donald (1989), David (1989), Kevin (1991), and her sister, Florence (1999). She is survived by her husband, James, of Shelburne; her sister, Maureen (Sister Christine of God, OCD) of Elysburg, Pa., her sister, Rita, of Sacramento, Calif.; her son, James and his partner, Julie Anderson, of Eagle River, Alaska; two grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and numerous members of a loving extended family. Her family said, “”Virginia’s family was the joy of her life. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. 	MARGARET C. GRANT ENOSBURG FALLS — Margaret C. Grant, age 83, widow of Harry Grant died unexpectedly Monday evening, Sept. 18, 2000 at her home. She was born in Barre on August 6, 1917. Margaret was a former resident of Rochester, N.H., and for the past 10 years made her home in Enosburg Falls. While living in Enosburg, her life was devoted to caring for and playing with all of her grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Kathleen and William Spears, Jr. of Enosburg ; 4 granddaughters, Kim, Jeni, Jodi, & Robyn; 4 great-grandchildren, Aspen, Ali, Nick & Gage; 2 half brothers, Robert & wife, Donna Dandrow of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Mike & wife, Betty Dandrow of National Park, N.J.; and several cousins. 	JANICE A. LOWELL WATERBURY — Janice A. Lowell, 62, of Hill Street in Waterbury, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2000. Born in Burlington on January 31, 1938, she was the daughter of Annie (Summers) Shephard and the late Leon Shephard, Jr. She was previously married to Spencer Morse. On December 19, 1983, she married John A. Lowell, Jr. in Waterbury. Janice was a 1956 graduate of Waterbury High School. As a young woman, she was busy as a homemaker and raising her family. She entered the work force as an assistant in the cafeteria at the Waterbury Elementary School, and later was employed as a bus driver for Harwood Union High School in Duxbury. Having passed the exam to become a psychiatric technician, she worked at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury for several years before joining her husband, John in operating Lowell’s IGA from 1980 – 1988. Since then, she has been employed as a licensed nurses aide at Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre. In 1999, she was honored as Geriatric Aide of the Year in the state of Vermont. Besides spending time with her children and grandchildren, one of her greatest joys was spending time with “”her people” at Rowan Court Nursing Home. Her memberships included the Waterbury Ambulance Service, the Waterbury Village Fire Department Auxiliary, was a member and former president of the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Unit #59 of Waterbury, and was a member of the Barre American Legion Unit #10. In her leisure time, she enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing bingo. She is survived by her husband of Waterbury; her mother of Waterbury; 2 daughters, Laura Morse and her partner, Carol Gyscek, and Melanie Byrd and her husband, George, all of Waterbury; a son, Matthew Morse and his wife, Julie, of Waterbury; a step-daughter, Kathleen Lowell of Duxbury; 2 step-sons, David Lowell of Duxbury and Scott Lowell of Calif.; 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; 2 sisters, Nancy Potter of Waterbury Center and Elaine Cliche of Fayston; nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Bethany Bell of Barre. Jewel died shortly following her birth on September 18th, while her brother Merryk died the following day on September 19th. 	DEVON ANNE BROWN WATERBURY CENTER — Devon Anne Brown, 48, of Ripley Road, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000. Born in East Orange, N.J. on February 2, 1952, she was the daughter of Richard C. and Jeanne D. (Seeley) Bessett. On December 23, 1977, she married Donald R. Brown in Meriden, Conn. Devon was a 1970 graduate, member of the National Honor Society, and valedictorian of Central Catholic High School in Norwalk, Conn. She continued her education at Southern Conn. State College, where she graduated in 1975, with a degree in psychology, with a minor in music. Moving to Vt. with her husband in 1979, she was first employed by HOPE, a social service agency in Waterbury. She later took a position as controller for Bolton Valley Ski Area for 8 years before being employed by IDX in South Burlington as an accountant, retiring in 1994, due to declining health. She was particularly fond of cross-stitching, crocheting, bird watching, camping, reading, gardening, and sailing. She is survived by her husband of Waterbury Center; her parents of Norwalk, Conn.; a son, Matthew A. Brown of Waterbury Center; 2 sisters, Christine A. Bessett of Chocorua, N.H., and Suzanne J. Dean and her husband, David, of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Mark D. Bessette and his wife, Teresa, of North Haven, Conn.; a nephew, David Thibodeau; and 3 nieces, Gressa Shail, Chelsea Bessette, and Jodi San Donato. 	SHEILA K. DUNLEAVY SOUTH BURLINGTON — Sheila K. Dunleavy, 77, died September 19, 2000 at her home in South Burlington, as a result of breast cancer. She was born on March 12, 1923 in Bennington, the daughter of Thomas B. and Celia (Conneely) Kenny. Mrs. Dunleavy attended public and parochial schools in Bennington and graduated from the former Bennington High School in 1941. She graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1945. On Sept. 2, 1950, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, she married John J. Dunleavy of Barre. They moved to Burlington in 1953, where they lived until moving to South Burlington in 1990. Mrs. Dunleavy worked as a registered nurse in New York City and in Vt. From 1961-1984, she operated Sheila’s Uniform Shop in Burlington. She was a member of the Cathedral parish in Burlington, where she formerly served as a member of the parish council, and St. John Vianney parish in South Burlington. She is survived by her son, John K. Dunleavy of South Burlington; her daughter, Maggie D. Dechant; her son-in-law, Thomas V. Dechant; and her grandsons, John J. Dechant, James T. Dechant, and Paul A. Dechant, all of LaCrosse, Kan. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Margaret M. Kenny of South Burlington, James C. and his wife, Lois S. Kenny of Charlotte, Vt., Brigid Eileen and her husband, Robert M. Gleason of Scituate, Mass., and John P. and wife, Mary Anne Kenny of Santa Fe, N.M., as well as several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Linda Baird, R.N., of Winooski, who provided inestimable support to Mrs. Dunleavy and her late husband during their illnesses over the past two years; and by her caregivers, Patty Dunn and Janet Herrero of Circle of Care. 	EMILY M. HANSEN BRISTOL — Emily M. Hansen, 89, died Tuesday, September 19, 2000 in Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury. She was born on December 2, 1910 in New York City, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Watts) Messier. Emily served in the Women Army Air Corp. during World War II. She was a member of the American Legion. She married Adam Hansen in 1950. He predeceased her in 1972. Emily was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. She is survived by three stepchildren, Diane Heffernan of Bristol, William Peter Hansen of Lincoln, John Hansen of Rochester, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Joyce of Md.; four brothers, Robert Messier, Alexander Messier and Glen Messier, all of Washington, D.C., Edward Messier of Hyde Park, Long Island, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. 	THELMA IRENE LAFOUNTAINE BURLINGTON — Thelma Irene LaFountaine, 88, of Burlington, died in Fletcher Allen Health Care on Sept. 19, 2000 after a long illness. She was born in Moretown, Vt. on October 19, 1911, daughter of Emile and Esther (Kingsbury) Gauthier. Thelma was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Colchester. She was the widow of Omer LaFountaine, who prececeased her in July, 1971. She was loved by everyone who knew her, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed. She was born in St. Albans on October 13, 1928, the daughter of the late John and Melvina (Audette) Rogers. She had been employed at Stannard’s Market on North Champlain Street for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral. 	SHIRLEY M. MARSHALL WATERBURY CENTER — Shirley M. Marshall, 82, passed away peacefully at home with her family and friends by her side on Tuesday, September 19, 2000. Born in Bolton on February 2, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Rolla and Evelyn (Pierce) Keith. On January 26, 1936, she married Dwaine C. Marshall in Stowe. Shirley attended schools in Morrisville and Waterbury. As a young woman, she worked as a mother’s helper in Morrisville and later in Waterbury. Following her marriage, she was busy as a homemaker and raising not only her own family, but was a mom to many other children also. Family was the most important aspect in her life. Active in organizations, her memberships included the Waterbury Center Community Church and its affiliated Ladies Aid, the Waterbury Grange #237, Emerald Rebekah Lodge #33, the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Auxiliary Unit #59, and was a 4-H leader for many years. Her leisure time was filled with needle point, crocheting, flower gardening, ceramics, and reading. She gave particular care to her beloved cats and her houseplants. She is survived by her husband of Waterbury Center; 2 daughters, Joyce Couture and her husband, Doug, of Lunenburg, Mass., and Phyllis Marshall of Williston; 3 sons, Neil Marshall and his wife, Betty, of Waterbury; Bruce Marshall and his wife, Polly, of East Montpelier, and Steven Marshall and his wife, Bonnie, of Waterbury Center; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a dear friend of the family, Rita Gauthier of Swanton; as well as nieces and nephews. 	PATRICIA V. PAYNE PHOENIX, Ariz. –Patricia V. Payne, 77, died Sept. 19, 2000, in Phoenix. She was born Feb. 17, 1923, in Burlington, Vt., the daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Vanderhoff) Gill. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1941. She married Reide B. Payne on July 5, 1947, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington. Mrs. Payne was a charter member of the Rutland Emblem Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Reide of Rutland, Vt., and Phoenix; two sons, Timothy J. Payne of Rutland, and Dennis B. Payne and his companion, Deborah LaJoie, of Pitts ford, Vt.; two sisters, June Zimolka and her husband, william, of Old Beth Page, N.Y., and Elizabeth Costello of San Antonio, Texas; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Gill of North Babylon, N.Y.; nine nephews; and five nieces. She was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas Gill and John Gill, both of Burlington, and Robert Gill of North Bablylon, N.Y. 	RUTH L. MEDEIROS BURLINGTON — Ruth L. Medeiros, 79, of Burlington died in Fletcher Allen Healthcare on September 20, 2000 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Burlington on April 25, 1921, daughter of Leon and Evelyn (Bamey) Fortune. Ruth was a longtime member of St. Joseph Parish and the Confraternity of St. Joseph. She married Manuel Medeiros in St. Joseph Church in 1945; he predeceased her in 1974. Ruth loved doing crafts and socializing with her friends at 10 North Champlain Street. She is survived by her sister, Gloria Fortune of Burlington; her brother and his wife, Maxim and Janice Fortune of Bolton; a special sister-in-law, Elizabeth Fortune of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and James Fortune. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral with interment to follow in New Mt. Calvary Cemetery. 	J. MAURICE MOREAU INVERNESS, FLA. — Mr. J. Maurice Moreau, age 80 years, of Inverness, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000. He was born in Swanton, Vt. and came to Inverness 2 years ago from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Mr. Moreau was a 1942 graduate of St. Michael’s College, Winooski Park, Vt., where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy and his Masters in Education. He taught school for 21 years at the Peoples Academy in Morrisville; and was a retired Immigration Inspector for the U.S. Government, after 33 years of service, 23 of them in Montreal, Canada; and a WWII Army Air Veteran; and was Catholic by Faith. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Grace Perry Moreau, Inverness, Fla.; 2 sons, Mr. John (Patricia) Moreau, Ridgewood, N.J. and Mr. Robert Moreau, Morrisville; brother, Mr. John P. 	CONSTANCE PROVOST ESSEX JUNCTION — Constance M. Provost, 80, of Essex Junction, died on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at home with her loving family by her side following a short illness. She was born in Burlington on September 24, 1919, daughter of the late William and Mary Louise (Cote) Desjardins. She was a long time parishioner of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Essex Junction. Constance was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. DEVENEY CHESAPEAKE, VA./STOWE — A long-time resident of Stowe, Bill Deveney, 84, died peacefully Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, in Chesapeake, Va., near his daughter, Gail Pepe and her husband, Lou. 	ROBERT CHARLES SHIPWAY RICHFORD, VT/ FAYETTEVILLE, NY — Robert Charles Shipway, age 85, died Thursday morning Sept. 21, 2000 at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford. Robert C. Chipway, son of Richard Tanner Shipway and Charlotte Fancher Shipway was born July 18th, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois. Bob was raised in Chicago and graduated from the University of Chicago on a full sports scholarship in 1937. While in school, Bob was the captain of the baseball team as well as playing the position of quarterback to the first recipient of the Heisman Trophy, Jay Berwanger. Sports always played an important role in Bob’s life, most notably baseball. In 1932 he was a member of the Chicago American Legion Team, which successfully became the World Champions. After playing ball in college, Bob went on to play pro baseball and in later years resumed his love for the game by coaching his son’s many little league teams. In 1941, Bob married his beloved, Florence Begg of Chicago. The couple eventually settled in Fayetteville, New York to raise their four children. Bob and Florence were long-term residents of the town of Fayettesville and lived in their much treasured home for over forty years. Bob was a very successful salesman with All-Steel Equipment and retired in his early fifties. He and Florence loved to travel and spent winters in their second home in Vero Beach Florida where Bob continued his love for baseball by being an avid Dodger fan during Spring Training. He is survived by his wife Florence and his four children and their spouses, Kathy Crumb and Carl Gooley of Albany, New York, Jill and Mike Roy of Walnut Creek, California, Peggy and Richard Eastman of Charlotte, and Robert and Hillary Shipway, Jr. of Lafayette, California. Nine adored grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive Bob. Bob will be remembered for his quick wit, his athleticism, and his great love and admiration for his friends and family. A memorial service will be held Friday September 29, 2000, at 11:00 at the Eaton-Tubbs-Schepp Funeral Home on 7191 East Genesee St. in Fayetteville, NY.
	JOSEPH S. ZAJCHOWSKI JOYCE M. ZAJCHOWSKI SOUTH BURLINGTON — Joseph S. Zajchowski, 72, and his wife, Joyce M. Zajchowski, 67, of South Burlington died as the result of an automobile accident in West Haven on Thursday, September 21, 2000. Joseph was born in Adams, Massachusetts on April 5, 1928 the son of Albert and Sophie (Filip) Zajchowski. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of Illinois Institte of Technology in Chicago and received his degree in Architecture. Being well known in the architectural community, Joseph served several terms as president of the local chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, art and a good joke. On August 7, 1954 he was married in Chicago to Joyce M. Weber. They moved to Vermont in 1957. Joyce was born in Buffalo, New York on September 17, 1933 the daughter of Carl and Violet (Wald) Weber. She was a Registered Nurse having received her Nursing Degree from Passevant Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She worked for many years for the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester and derived great joy from caring for her patients. She enjoyed shopping, cooking and laughing. Together Joseph and Joyce dedicated their lives to their family and friends. They enjoyed traveling, gardening, nature, and were very active in their church, St. John Vianney. They are survived by their six children and their spouses. Kathleen and Jeffrey Tolbert of Brooklyn, NY, Steven Zajchowski of Jeffersonville, Carol and Dr. Mark Albertini of Madison, Wisconsin, Gregory Zajchowski and his wife Shari Halik of Richmond, Laura Zajchowski and her husband Gerry Hall of Morrisville, Pennsylvania, David Zajchowski of Cary, North Carolina; 8 grandchildren, Sara and Justin Tolbert, Jeffrey, Matthew and Michael Albertini, Rachel Zajchowski, Nathan and Zachary Hall. Grenley died Sept. 22, 2000 at the Birchwood Nursing Home in Burlington He was born March 26, 1921 in Calumet, Michigan, the son of Nels and Mary (Erickson) Grenley. Raymond served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He received his masters degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan School of Mining and Technology. He worked for Dupont Co., G.E. and he retired from I.B.M. in 1987. He worked as a realtor for Martin Agency, Century 21, after his retirement from I.B.M.. Ray was a devoted member of the Green Mountain Chorus. he was a member of the Masonic Order. He volunteered at the Fletcher Allen Healthcare in the Cardiac Unit. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Johnson) Grenley of Essex Jct., 3 children; daughter Ruth LeBlanc of Charlotte, son Stephen G. Grenley and his wife Nola – Jane, of Island Heights, New Jersey, daughter Margaret and husband John L. Fox of Georgia, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Ralph and George Grenley and his sister Margaret Jewell. 	ANTOINETTE SALVATOR BILODEAU WEYBRIDGE — Antoinette Salvator Bilodeau, age 80, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family, Saturday, September 23, 2000. She was born in Roscoe, N.Y., February 8, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and Sadie (Litrenta) Salvator. Antoinette graduated from UVM in 1944, with a BS in Medical Technology. She was 1 of 3 in UVM’s first graduating class in Medical Technology. She worked at Mary Fletcher Hospital after graduating and also in W. Va. and Laconia, N.H. On April 23, 1949, she married Wilfrid R. Bilodeau in the newly built St. John’s Apostle Church in Johnson, Vt. Ann was an enthusiastic bird watcher, she maintained scrapbooks and was known for her wealth of knowledge on the subject. She and her husband also toured Vt. Covered Bridges, having visited bridges throughout the state collecting photographs and articles. She is survived by her loving family, her husband, Wilfrid; three sons; Blaise Bilodeau, Lawrence and his wife, France Bilodeau, Joseph and his wife, Wendy Bilodeau; her sisters-in-law, Marie Lackard and Dolly and her husband, Robert Sinclair; four grandchildren, Mark, Natalie, Leslie and Kelsey Bilodeau. Also many nieces and nephews. 	HENRY C. MILES MONTPELIER — Henry C. Miles, age 77, formerly of Winooski, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000 in the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin following a short illness. Henry was born in Winooski, Vt. on February 7, 1923, the son of the late Leonard and Lottie (Myers) Miles. He attended Winooski schools and was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Winooski. Henry served in the United States Army in WW II and in the Korean Conflict. He was in the United States Army for 11 years, and worked for 23 years at Girard Baking, and finally at Lone Pine Campground in Colchester as manager for 13 years. Among Henry’s many interests, he especially enjoyed camping, dining out with his grandchildren and friends and spending time with his dog, Oreo. He is survived by his wife, Nettie Miles of Montpelier; one son, Mark Miles of Swanton; two grandchildren, Chad Miles, US Marine Corps., Yorktown, Va., Chrissy Miles of Swanton; three stepdaughters, Jeanne and her husband, Doug Brink of Barre, Vt., Joanie and her husband, Lawrence Holmes of Hope, R.I., Joyce Bartlett of Berlin, Vt.; one stepson, Jeff and his wife, Sue DeForge of Adamant, Vt.; one brother, Harold and his wife, Pearl Miles and their children of Bristol, Conn.; one sister, Blanche Mongeon of Winooski, and several nieces and nephews. 	JERRETTA CLARA MULVEY WATERBURY CENTER — Jerretta Clara Mulvey, 82, of Sweet Road, passed away at her home on Saturday, September 23, 2000. Born in Hamden, Conn. on December 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Jerretta (Barnes) Bamford. On April 18, 1942, she married George Francis Mulvey in West Haven, Conn. Mr. Mulvey passed away while serving during WW II on April 1, 1945. Mrs. Mulvey was a 1935 graduate of Hillhouse High School in New Haven, Conn. Moving her family to Vt. and settling in Waterbury in 1963, she began work at the Vermont State Hospital, first as a psychiatric technician, and later as an assistant supervisor. From 1970 – 1998, she operated a community care home in Waterbury Center. A longtime red phone dispatcher for the Waterbury Ambulance Service, she also took delight in organizing and hosting the ambulance annual picnic and hayride. She previously had owned and operated a ceramics studio in Waterbury, an activity she enjoyed throughout her life, along with working with miniatures. She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Mulvey of Waterbury Center; a son, Douglas Mulvey and his wife, Dawn, of Kearsarge, N.H. and their son, Shawn Mulvey; a sister, Alice Wetmore of Wallingford, Conn.; 2 brothers, Oscar Bamford of New Haven, Conn., and Wesley Bamford of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, adley and Nancy Guyette of Waterbury Center. A sister, Laura Riggs, and 3 brothers, George Bamford, William Bamford, and James Bamford predeceased her. 	C. BRIAN CROSBIE-FOOTE CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y./MIDDLEBURY, VT. — C. Brian Crosbie-Foote passed away Sept. 24, 2000 at his home in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. Brian would have been 44 on November 1, 2000. He was born and lived his youth in Vermont, where he graduated from Middlebury Union High School as Valedictorian in 1974. In 1978, he received his B.A. degree from Amherst College where he was also a member of Delta Upsilon. He married Holly Crosbie of Tarrytown, N.Y. on October 23, 1982. They made their home in Croton-on-Hudson since 1985, except for two years in Rochester, N.Y. Holly, their son, Cory, 9, and daughter, Hayley, 4, survive him. He worked in the Trust Departments of Manufacturers Hanover and Bank of N.Y. As a Certified Financial Planner, Brian was later self-employed as a tax advisor and financial consultant. He will long be remembered for his ready smile, wit, kindness, and even-handedness to all. Dedicated to his children, he strove to encourage them to have the qualities of openness and honesty with respect for the rights of all who touched their lives. Brian loved all sports and athletics, excelling in football, basketball, track, water polo, and lacrosse in high school and college. He took pleasure in his collection of antique clocks and toys, his culinary endeavors, and with Holly, enjoyed flower gardening and yard sales of every kind. He is also survived by his parents, Ralph and Nancy Foote, brothers, Tony, Peter (Sharon), Dick (Missy), and Cory (Hilary) Foote, together with nieces and nephews, Katy, Alec, Charles, Rob, Annie, T.J., Samantha, and “”little” Brian, all living in Vt. Holly’s parents, five sisters, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews were also very dear to him. Brian, a humanitarian and history buff, cared deeply for those individuals who made a true difference in the world and, as inspired by Abe Lincoln, ”…always sought to pluck a thistle and plant a flower where he thought a flower might grow.” Those who watched and lived it with him will forever remember him for his valiant struggle against brain cancer. A talented and published poet, Sarah and her daughter were inseparable, the best of friends. She will now go home to be with her friends and family whom she loves. Without Sarah, her family feels as if they have been dropped off somewhere they have never been and must find their way home. 	BERTHA M. FOSTER WESTFORD — Bertha M. Foster, 84, passed away in the Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, where she had been a resident for a short time. Bertha was born on April 6, 1916, in Underhill, the daughter of Fred and Hattie (Brown) Bapp. She was the 14th of 16 children. She married Maurice C. Foster in Burlington on October 11, 1941. Maurice predeceased her on Sept. 1, 1999. Bertha attended Underhill schools and graduated from UVM and taught elementary school for 15 years, (often in 1 room schools) in Moretown, Fayston, Waterbury and Westford. She also taught in the Head Start Program in Fairfax. She was also employed at the Westford Post Office for 10 years. She served as a legislator from Westford in 1965-1966 and was active in Civic and Church affairs. Bertha was a very special person! She always devoted her life to someone else – her husband, her parents and special nieces and nephews and friends and neighbors. She was a member of the Westford United Church and attended the Moretown United Methodist Church while living with her sister. She was also a member of the Mad River Valley Seniors. Among her survivors is her niece, June Way, who has been like a daughter to her, and June’s husband, Frank and their children, Stephen and his wife, Lynn, Laurie, and Debra and Stephen’s children, Brandon, Tyler and Lauren Way. She is also survived by a brother, Arthur Bapp of Bristol and a sister, Gertrude Murphy of Moretown, a brother-in-law, Donald Foster, and his wife, Shirley and a sister-in-law, Irma Farnham of Moretown. She also leaves many nieces and nephews as well as many friends. She has earned her reward, but will be missed greatly. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 29, 2000 in the Minor Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service in the Minor Funeral Home located at 237 Route 7 South in Milton. He was born in Burlington on February 26, 1938, the son of the late Raymond and Mae (Vochey) Roberts. He served in the US Army in Germany. He was married on January 23, 1960 to Carolyn Pelkey. 	LAURETTA LESAGE DuHAMEL WINOOSKI — Lauretta Lesage DuHamel, 71, of Winooski, has joined her predeceased husband, J. Roger on September 25, 2000. 	LEONA L. IANNI BURLINGTON — Leona L. Ianni, 98, formerly of Rutland, died Monday, September 25, 2000 in the Birchwood Terrace Healthcare Center in Burlington. She was born in Rutland on October 14, 1901, the youngest daughter of 13 children to Peter and Marie (Morin) Lorette. Mrs. Ianni was a longtime resident of Rutland and member of St. Peter Church. Mrs. Ianni was employed for twenty-five years by Dr. George Marshall, later became a Registered Record Librarian at the Rutland Hospital. Prior to her retirement, she assisted Dr. Louis Esposito in his office for twenty-six years. Her husband, Napoleon W. Ianni, a popular music educator and conductor known throughout central and southern Vt. predeceased her in 1977. In the mid 1980’s Leona moved to Burlington to be near her family. Mrs. Ianni is survived by 2 sons, Robert, and his wife, Jeannette of Morrisville; a son, Richard and his wife, Fran, of South Burlington.; grandchildren, Kevin of Middlebury; Robert, Jr. of North Troy; Edward of Charlotte, N.C.; Patricia of Hackettstown, N.J., and Michael and Christopher of Colchester. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Peter Church. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. 	FREDERICK LAMONDA CABOT — Frederick LaMonda, 75, died Monday, September 25, 2000 in Brattleboro. He was born in Stowe on June 4, 1925, the son of Valentine and Bernice (Preston) LaMonda. Frederick served his country during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps. He married Bonnie Barnett on October 5, 1974. Fred had lived for the past 26 years in Cabot where he was a member of the Cabot United Church. He never retired and was currently employed at S.B. Collins, where he had worked for the past ten years. His previous employment was at Wymans, Inc., where he worked for 40 years. Fred was a master electrician and journeyman plumber. He was a Lifemember of the V.F.W. Post #792 in Montpelier, he was also a Lifemember of the N.R.A. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman and he also enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Cabot; two sons, Val LaMonda and Carl LaMonda both of Stowe; a step-son, Bradley LaPan of Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Linda LaMonda of Cabot, and Debra Tyler of Stowe; a step-daughter, Robin LaPan of Cabot; a brother, William Sanborn of North Carolina; three sisters, Ellie Spaulding of Morrisville, Bernice Kelly of McGregor, Texas, and Helen Camley of Hyde Park; ten grandchildren and two twin great-granddaughters. 	JOANN WENDEL BRISTOL — Joann Wendel, 70, died at her home in Bristol on Monday, September 25, 2000. She was born on October 18, 1929 in Orange, Mass., the daughter of Fenwick and Eltheda (Ward) Estey. She was a graduate of Bristol High School and worked for many years at Drake Smith Company in Bristol. She then worked at Bristol Elementary School before her retirement in 1998. She loved to go fishing with her husband Harland and her grandchildren. She spent her summers tending her vegetable garden and many flower gardens and from her flower gardens came her children’s gardens. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid birdwatcher who cared year-round for the birds that came to her numerous feeders. Reading was a special joy for her and she liked nothing better than to be curled up in her rocking chair with yet another favorite book. Joann is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harland. She had six children. One daughter, Cathy and her husband, Glenn Ahrens of Bow, N.H. Five sons; George Wendel and his wife, Judy of Bristol, Scott Wendel and his wife, Vickie of Hinesburg, Hal Wendel and his wife, Margaret of Bristol, Brian Wendel and his wife, Meg of Bristol, and Dean Wendel and his wife, Cheryl of Chapel Hill, N.C. She leaves 16 grandchidlren and one great-grandchild. She also leaves two brothers; Fenwick Estey of Starksboro, and Frank Estey of Woodstock, Conn. Three sisters, Edythe Estey of Clifton, N.J., Eltheda Steady of New Haven and Nancy Hallock of Lebanon, OR. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Joann was predeceased by a brother, Richard Estey. Joann was a devoted wife and mother and she died peacefully surrounded by the family she loved. She was a no-nonsense kind of person but also one who understood the quiet beauty of the world around her. She was a wise and compassionate woman who was a source of strength for all of us who were lucky to have known her. God has taken another angel to watch over us. We will miss her deeply, for she was not only our wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, she was our best friend. Rest in Peace. We love you. 	FLOYD A. BOOSKA BURLINGTON — Floyd A. Booska, 69, died September 26, 2000, following a long and courageous struggle with lung disease in Fletcher Allen with his loving family by his side. He was born in Jericho on October 17, 1930, the son of the late Wallace and Gladys (Hunt) Booska. He served in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of the Korean Conflict having been stationed in Germany for two tours where he served as a military policeman. He was employed by Albert Wright’s Oil Burner Service for many years and then worked in construction plumbing until retiring in 1994. He is a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union/Local 693. He was a long standing Fraternal Member of the Eagles Club. His greatest joy was when all the family would gather together for barbecues and the holidays and he always enjoyed his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching the birds in his backyard and was a great cook. He loved to play cards with his friends and was a Giants football fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Setsuko Martha (White) Booska, who spent many hours lovingly taking care of him during the past year. Besides his wife, he is survived by 8 children and their spouses: Diana (White) & James Poirier of Milton, Allan Booska of Culver City, Calif., Mary (White) & David Ball of Milton, Rita (Booska) & Patrick Carlin of Naples, Fla., David & Judy White of Waterford, N.Y., James & Donna Booska of Burlington, Mary Ann (Booska) Lawrence of Rochester, N.Y., Peter White & his fiancee Christa Vento of Burlington; 15 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. 	BONNIE SHEA ROCK WILLISTON — Bonnie Shea Rock, age 57, a long time resident of the local area, died Tuesday September 26, 2000 in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with her loving family by her side. Bonnie was born in Colchester on April 25, 1943 the daughter of James D. and Emelda M. (LeBlanc) Shea. She attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School and Rice Memorial Catholic High School. She was married to Robert Rock. Bonnie was employed for many years at IBM. She was a parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. Bonnie had several interests such as writing, she was an avid reader and a tremendous organizer, spending time with her dog “”Teddy, and enjoyed watching figure skating. She was very personable, outgoing, fun loving, and witty, with a very giving heart. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 	GRACE MARIE CARLSON STOWE — Grace Marie Carlson, age 87, passed away Wednesday September 27, 2000 after a brief illness in Copley Hospital in Morrisville. She was born on May 8, 1913 the daughter of the late Frederich and Ellen Kroog in Hoboken, N.J. Upon moving to Vermont in 1983, she was a long time friend and volunteer for transportation of the Central Vermont Council on Aging. She is survived by her daughter Maureen and son-in-law Sven Skjolberg of Stowe; three granddaughters, Karen Moskal of Wayne, N.J., Joyce Von Bernewitz of Waterbury, and Sandra Skjolberg of New Port Richey, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren, Erin, Michael, and Erik. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl, and her two sisters, Marion Ward and Eleanor Berry. 	CHARLES R. GARVIN BURLINGTON — Charles R. Garvin, 80, of 10 No. Champlain St. passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at Fletcher-Allen Health Care, after a long illness. He was born on August 22, 1920 in Boone Mountain, Pennsylvania, the son of Jeff and Pheobe (Nickols) Garvin. He had been employed with the New York Central Railroad for nearly ten years and for various contractors. He later was a custodian at Thayer School on North Ave. for many years and was a part of the Foster Grandparents Program at John F. Kennedy School in Winooski. Mr. Garvin was a parishioner of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral and a member of the Confraternity of St. Joseph. He leaves his wife, Blanche (Mongeon) Garvin of Burlington, nine children: Michael Garvin, Mary Benway, Charles R. Garvin Jr., Dennis Garvin, Gloria Reed, Nancy Brehaut, Edward Bigelow, Leroy Bigelow and Debra Stearns; many grand, great grand and great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Paul Davis. 	MALCOLM ROBERT GEE WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — Malcolm Robert Gee, 74, of Winter Garden, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at his residence while under the compassionate care of Hospice. He was born Feb. 16, 1926, in Vergennes, Vt., the son of the late John and Bertha (Daniels) Gee. He was a meat cutter for 40 years and later retired as a truck driver with New England Air Construction. He was a Roman Catholic by faith. 	ATSUKO IKEDA WINOOSKI — Atsuko Ikeda, 37, of Lapointe Street died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000. She was born in Japan on Aug. 14, 1963, the daughter of Jiro and Yoshoko (Nakazawa) Ikeda. She arrived in the United States in 1999 and moved to the Burlington area in June of this year to study in the graduate program at St. Michael’s College. Prior to her moving, she taught English to children in her hometown in Japan, which she loved, and her children loved her. Atsuko loved outdoor activities, particularly snowboarding. She also enjoyed talking with her many friends. Besides her parents in Japan, two sisters survive her: Sachiko Ikeda, and Maskako Maruyama and her husband, Yoshio; her brother, Hiroshi Ikeda and his wife, Aiko; three nephews, and one niece, all of Japan. 	DOROTHY S. ROGERS BURLINGTON — Dorothy S. Rogers died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, in the Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Genoa, N.Y., on April 11, 1908, the daughter of William P. and Lillian Weeks Shaw. She was a longtime member of St. Hilary’s Church in Genoa and, when that closed, St. Bernard’s Church in Scipio Center. Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Virginia Deutschbein of Walworth, N.Y., Alice Steinmetz of Crescent City, Fla., and Nancy Cousino of South Burlington; a sister, Edna Crim of Auburn, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward (“”Ted”); her son, James; her granddaughter, Mary Ellen Deutschbein; brothers Charles, Louis, Ernest, William, and Raymond; and sisters Grace, Flora, Ruby, and Katherine. Dorothy was a kind and gentle woman who loved her family and friends, her books, her garden, traveling, and just enjoying nature. Genoa remained dear to her heart, even when she was no longer able to live there, and she always enjoyed hearing from her many friends and relatives with news from back home. She was born in Burlington on April 5, 1925, the daughter of Herbert and Stella (Gordon) Pashby. Spa was married on August 5, 1950 in Burlington to Richard R. Bleau, who predeceased her on April 16, 1999. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by six children, Norma Jean Stowell and her husband, Robert, of Milton, Arthur R. Bleau and his wife, Nancy, of Milton, Bruce A. Bleau of Colchester, Nancy Lynn Tobler and her husband, Daniel, of Maryland, Keith R. Bleau and his girlfriend, Fawn Bouvier of Colchester, and Lisa M. Nichols and her boyfriend Michael Wright, of Colchester; eight grandchildren, Brian Bleau, Thomas and Todd Stowell, Gary Bleau, Sarah and Loren Bleau, Robbie and Terry Tobler, one great-grandson, Kaleb Pierce; her mother, Stella Pashby of Burlington; three sisters, Gloria Hayes of Burlington, Marlene Haser of Arizona, and Katherine Bither and her husband, Richard, of Florida, one brother, Robert Pashby of Burlington, a special nephew and his his wife, Wayne and N. Maedean Bither, and many other nieces and nephews, and special angels, Rae Bleau, Sheila Hendee, and hospice nurse, Margaret Sussman. She was also predeceased by her father, Herbert Pashby, one brother, Lawrence Pashby and one sister, Lenora Jenot. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 2, 2000 at 12:30 P.M., in the Ready Funeral Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Drive, Essex Jct. Burial will be in Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery. 	VIRGINIA MARGARET (MARBUT) BURNHAM NORTHFIELD — Virginia Margaret (Marbut) Burnham, 90, a longtime resident of Hill Street, Northfield, died peacefully Sept. 28, 2000, in Central Vermont Hospital following a short illness. She was born Jan. 15, 1910, in Sweetwater, Texas, the daughter of Douglas C. and Margaret Canzadia (Hudson) Marbut. Her family lived in Texas, Arkansas and Missouri before settling in Colorado Springs, Colo., where she attended public schools. She began music lessons at the age of 8 in Fayetteville, Ark., and presented her first recital after only five months of study. She was a member of the Colorado Springs Music Club and was the youngest member ever voted into the American Music Society at age 17. When radio first came into being, she was very active in the Colorado Springs KFUM station as a studio accompanist and member of the KFUM trio for a very popular children’s program of music and stories, where she was known as “”Aunt Virgie.” She played piano and provided sound effects for the silent movies in a theater in Colorado City, Colo. In Colorado Springs, she taught public school music at the Cheyenne Mountain School, grade school and high school and taught piano privately. She also accompanied the Cheyenne Mountain exhibition folk and square dancers as they performed in and out of state–as far away as New Jersey and New York City. She married George H. Burnham on Aug. 30, 1936, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She and her husband moved to New York City and later to Hempstead, Long Island, where she taught public school music and taught private piano and organ at the Cathedral School of St. Mary. While there, she co-wrote and produced an original musical drama, “”Wear Pink,” which was performed in other schools in New York and New Jersey as well as in Northfield when she and her husband moved to Vermont in 1945. In Northfield, she became a member of the United Church and was church organist and choir director from 1946 to 1975. Mrs. Burnham also spent 35 years providing private piano and organ instruction to Northfield students as well as participating in a local piano-violin-cello trio, accompanying and performing with many central Vermont ensembles, including the Vermont Philharmonic, and directing several town choral groups over the years. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists and one of the founding members of the Vermont Music Teachers Association. She held national certification as a teacher of piano, organ and choral conducting. She was very active in local affairs and state and national women’s club activities. Among other things, she was first president of the Northfield Improvement Society; active in organizing and running the Red Mitten Craft Shop; Grand Marshal of the Northfield Labor Day Parade in 1987 (with her three grandchildren); active in the Northfield Ladies Reading Circle and General Federation of Women’s Clubs since 1946; member of the Northfield Historical Society; volunteer with the RSVP program; a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; president of the Vermont Federation of Women’s Clubs, 1964-1966; music chairman of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, 1966-1968; and secretary/treasurer of the New England Conference of Women’s Clubs, 1970-1972. Playing bridge with friends was a constant source of satisfaction and pleasure for her throughout her time in Northfield. She maintained her own home and remained active, playing bridge regularly and volunteering at the Red Mitten Craft Shop and the Northfield Senior Citizens Center until her death. Her husband, George, a retired professor of physics at Norwich University, died in Nov. 1985, shortly after celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary. She leaves a daughter, Mary Virginia Gold of Columbia, Md.; and a son, Douglas George of Montpelier; two grandsons, Adam Douglas Gold and Ezra Robert Gold; and one granddaughter, Ella Mary Burnham. 	MARY R. CLARK RIPTON — Mary R. Clark, 72, passed away peacefully Sept. 28, 2000, as a result of complications following heart surgery. Mary was born in New York City, the daughter of Clarence B. and Anna Mae (Knibbs) Riggs. She married Richard M. Clark on Oct. 10, 1947. She graduated from the University of Utah with an advanced degree in English from Middlebury College. She taught English and humanities at Rowland Hall, St. Mark’s, in Salt Lake City for many years, culminating as principal of the elementary school. She was an avid historian and genealogist. Her doctoral research while studying at the University of Utah was in the development of women’s education in Utah. When she moved to Vermont, she taught in the Adult Diploma Program for the State of Vermont. She spent summers throughout her life in Ripton and eventually retired here in 1986. Her love for Ripton kept her involved with the town and the Ripton Historical Society. She was immediate past president of the Women’s Club of Middlebury. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and the East Middlebury Methodist Church. She enjoyed bridge and gardening. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard M. Clark, three children, Constance Reese and Alice Clark of Ripton, and Jonathan Clark and his wife, Kristie, of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter-in-law Meryl Clark of Kensington, Md.; three grandchildren, Jessica, Alexandrea and Benjamin; two sisters, Alice Moore of Houston, Texas, Ruthanne Jansen of Newberry, Fla.; and her brother, Clarence Riggs of Pasadena, Md. She was predeceased by a sister, Caroline Rhodes; and her son, Christopher Clark. 	EDWARD A. DACRES, SR. COLCHESTER –Edward A. Dacres, Sr., 63, of Colchester, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 28, 2000. He was born in Moretown on February 1, 1937, son of the late Mancel and Mae (Battles) Dacres. Edward was a member of the Local Union 693 Plumbers and Pipefitters. He was a lifetime member of the Winooski Methodist Church. Edward was predeceased by his wife, Helen Malzac Dacres, a grandson, and a niece. 	JUDITH GLENNA (GERVIA) FAIRBANKS SHELBURNE — Judith (Gervia) Fairbanks died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at her home in Shelburne. Mrs. Fairbanks, daughter of the late Henry and Thelma Gervia, was born March 30, 1937, in Shelburne. She attended Shelburne High School. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Fairbanks; and daughter Valerie Jean. As the wife of a 20-year Army veteran, she resided in countries and states all over the world. She was a longtime member of Post No. 782 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and held several offices during her long tenure. She is survived by her sisters and brothers, Joan (Harry) Wooster of Shelburne, F. Gene Gervia and Mark F. (Beatrice) Gervia of Kissimmee, Fla., Mary Lou Coleman and Norreen (Antonio) Miro, both of Miami, Fla., and Neil T. (Tami) of Monkton. She is also survived by an aunt, Rita Ann St. George of Charlotte; many nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law, Raeburn (Florence) Fairbanks of Georgia, Vt., and Francis Lucia of Florida; and her extended family and friends of Post No. 782 of the VFW, Burlington. 	HERMAN J. ”TOT” MAYNARD SOUTH BURLINGTON — Herman J. ”Tot” Maynard, 88, of South Burlington, died on September 28, 2000. He was born in Burlington on May 31, 1912, son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Gendron) Maynard. Herman was employed by Strong Hardware for 35 years, then he ran Bissette Hardware and retired from Hagar Hardware in 1980. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and also his great grandchildren. Tot was an avid woodscraftsman and a flea marketer. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Eunice Laura (Tufts) Maynard of So. Burlington; one son and his wife, Philip and Nancy Maynard of Plattsburgh, New York; one daughter and her husband, Merrilyne and Keith Palmer of St. Albans; eight grandchildren, Philip Jr., Patrick, Paul, Peter, Paula, and Perry Maynard, Lyn-Ann Mayhew, and Laurie Palmer; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Claire Delorme and Cecelia Relyea, and two brothers, William and John Maynard, all of Burlington. 	MARION E. BRODIE BURLINGTON — Marion E. Brodie, 80, died in Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center on Friday, Sept. 29, 2000. She was born in Detroit, Mich., on July 2, 1920, the daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth (Pope) Teclu. Graduating from the University of Michigan, Marion worked as a rare book dealer who owned and operated “”Marion the Antiquarian Librarian” in Auburn Hills, Mich., for more than 20 years. She moved to the Burlington area to be with her family. Surviving are her daughter, Shelia Towers and her husband, Bill Towers, of Shelburne; and her son, Kevin Scanlan and his wife, Mary Frances McCatty, of New York City; and two grandchildren, Faith and Ty. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Robert Brodie, in March 2000. According to Marion’s wishes, there will be a private memorial service for her family. 	PHYLLIS (PLOOF) DeVOID BURLINGTON – Phyllis (Ploof) Devoid entered into God’s kingdom Friday, Sept. 29, 2000. She was born in Burlington on May 8, 1922, the daughter of Raymond J. and Dorothy (Gelinas) Ploof. Phyllis married Bernard H. DeVoid on Oct. 11, 1945, and they would have celebrated 55 loving years next month. She spent many years making a happy home for her husband and raising their five children. Phyllis also loved traveling, camping, and just talking to people. 	MARGARET “”PEGGY” MONSPORT SCANNELL BERLIN — Margaret M. Scannell, 87, of Fairfield, Conn. and Berlin, Vt. died peacefully on September 29, 2000, surrounded by the love of her family and the compassionate care of the Woodridge Nursing Home staff. The former Margaret Elizabeth Monsport, “”Peggy” was born on June 6, 1913 in Bridgeport, Conn. A talented, classically trained dancer, when Peggy was 15 years old in the midst of the great depression, she was “”discovered” and offered a starring role in a Broadway dance show called Morocco Bound. Following its success on Broadway, the show continued to tour throughout the United States by train for two years, playing in 46 of the 48 continental states. While on tour, Peggy continued her high school education via tutor, as she traveled with the dance company from city to city with her chaperone in the company’s private railway coach. In 1946, Peggy married Richard “”Chud” Scannell of Devon, Conn., and together with Chud raised three sons, Dennis, Jeffrey, and R. Weir Scannell. In her later life, Peggy followed in her mother’s footsteps and found great meaning and satisfaction in being a caregiver and cook for elderly people in their homes. Her main joy, however; was simply in being a loving mother and grandmother. After suffering a stroke in the fall of 1999, Peggy became a resident of the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, Vt., where the staff became very fond of her. During her time at Woodridge, she felt deeply cared for, at peace, and able to let go. Peggy was predeceased by her mother, Anna Lengyel Monsport and her father, James Emery Monsport. She is survived by her brother, Eugene J. Monsport of Parsippany, N.J.; her former husband, Richard of New Bern, N.C.; her three sons, Dennis of Waterbury, Jeffrey of Montpelier, and Richard Weir of Fairfield, Conn.; Dennis’ wife, Laurel and daughters, Cady and Devin; Jeffrey’s wife, Stephanie; Weir’s former wife, Kathy, son Sean, and daughter, Megan of Lindstrom, Minn.; and nephews, Weldon, John and Michael Monsport of N.J. Throughout her life, Peggy had a grace and dignity and beauty that was inspiring, quiet, gentle, and gracious. A memorial service and celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, Vt. at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2000. 	EDWARD MORTON WHITCOMB ESSEX JUNCTION — Edward Morton Whitcomb, 64, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington due to complications from injuries sustained in an accident earlier in the week. He was born Feb. 1, 1936, in Burlington, the son of Robert Morton and Kathryn (Thomas) Whitcomb. Ed graduated from Burlington High School in 1955 and attended the University of Vermont. He married Polly Bosworth on Oct. 22, 1958, in Middlebury. Ed was a well-known and respected farmer in Essex Junction. He was a kind and gentle man who will be remembered by all who knew him for the love and values he instilled in his family. He is survived by his wife, Polly B. 	RICHARD BERNARD CHASTENAY BURLINGTON — Richard Bernard Chastenay, 68, of Burlington died in Fletcher Allen Health Care on Sept. 30, 2000, after a long illness. He was born in Burlington on April 2, 1932, the son of Bernard Cecil and Marguerite Louise (Nay) Chastenay. Richard was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. For many years he worked as a farmer and then for 23 years worked in maintenance for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington. Richard was a member of the VFW, Howard Plant Post No. 782, the American Legion, and the RVA in Winooski. 	HENRY J. CLOUTIER NEWINGTON, Conn. — Henry J. Cloutier, 70, of Newington, Conn., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at his home. Born and raised in Burlington, Vt., son of the late Hyacinthe Cloutier and Yvonne (Rosseau) Cloutier, he was a Newington resident for the past 30 years. Henry retired from Micron Co. Inc. in Berlin, Conn., after many years of employment. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was known as a “”master gadgeteer” with an inquisitive, scientific flair. His survivors include seven stepchildren, Mary Ellen Giarnella of Cromwell, Conn., Michael Burgoyne of East Lyme, Conn., Carolyn Balis of Lawton, Okla., Steven Burgoyne, David Burgoyne, and Kathy Burgoyne, all of Carmel, Maine, and Daniel Burgoyne of Virginia; five grandchildren; three brothers, Maurice Cloutier of South Burlington, Robert Cloutier and Raymond Cloutier, both of Colchester; seven sisers, Pauline Hamelin of Glens Falls, N.Y., Edna Brown of Charlotte, Claire LaPlant of Colchester, Rita Walton of Boxford, Mass., Sue Dreyer of Valatie, N.Y., Helen Rosenblum of Hinesburg, and Alice Wingerter of Lancaster, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. 	BEVERLY T. KENYON SWANTON — Beverly T. Kenyon, 70, a resident of Swanton since 1977, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans following a lengthy illness. She was born in Burlington on Nov. 9, 1929, the daughter of the late Huber O. and Nellie (Riggs) Taft. Beverly was married to Herbert H. Kenyon. Before moving to Swanton, she and Herb lived in St. Albans for several years. Music was a large part of Beverly’s life. She was formerly an organist at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in St. Albans and accompanist at Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. She taught private music lessons in her home and at one time accompanied The Opera Studio in Montreal. She was also pianist for Rose Casperson’s Dance Studio. She was a 1947 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax. Beverly’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family and many friends. She also enjoyed gardening. In addition to her husband, Herb, Bev is survived by her daughter and her husband, Roxy E. and Robert Eldridge of Swanton; four sons, Charles and his wife, Sandi Kenyon, of St. Albans, Herbert H. and his wife, Diane Kenyon, of Swanton, Christopher T. Kenyon of St. Albans, and Hugh A. Kenyon of Swanton. She also leaves six grandsons, Robert and Chad Eldridge and Erik, Nathan, Trevor and Jared Kenyon; four granddaughters, Jessica, Jamie, Jenni and Alexis Kenyon; a great-grandson, Ray Jarrett Eldridge; and a sister-in-law, Janet and her husband, Robert LeDuc, of St Albans. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Taft; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Heald. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at 10 a.m. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in St. Albans. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Bishop Street, St. Albans, Vt. 05478. 	GEORGE MILO ROOD NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. — George Milo Rood, a New York Times copy editor for 38 years, and former managing editor of The Burlington Daily News and Vermont Sunday News, died of cancer on Sept. 30, 2000 in New York City. Rood, who lived in Manhattan, maintained a summer residence on Coates Island, Malletts Bay. He was 65 years old. Rood was born on May 5, 1935, in Burlington, the son of Thomas Drakely Rood Sr., an Essex Junction grocer who died in 1951, and Margaret Mary (Nourse) Rood Sargent, who died in 1990. He grew up in Essex Junction, attending Essex Junction schools until transferring to Burlington High School. He was a trombonist in school bands and began his love affair with jazz as a teenager. Along with his older brother, Tom, George served summers as a camp counselor at Camp Abnaki in North Hero. After his graduation from Burlington High School in 1952, Rood attended the University of Vermont, where he joined and eventually led the popular Catamounts dance band, and was a member and president of the Owls fraternity. He received a B.A. in English from UVM in 1956. In 1956, Rood married Joanna Goddard of Essex Junction. They had two daughters, Amy Susan, born in 1956, and Sabrina Mary, born in 1957. The couple, though divorced in 1960, remained lifelong friends. Rood’s journalism career began in 1956 when he joined The Burlington Daily News as a reporter-photographer after a short stint as a feature writer for The Burlington Free Press. During his early reporting days, Rood held a second job as an English instructor at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, where he wasa hired to teach English to Hungarian freedom fighters. From 1956 to 1961, Rood was managing editor of The Burlington Daily News and Vermont Sunday News. In 1961, Rood moved to New York City, where his journalism career flourished. After a year at The New York Journal of Commerce, Rood joined the staff of The New York Times in 1962 as a copy editor in its financial news department. He was named chief of the department’s copy desk in 1968. In 1976, Rood transferred to The Times’ metropolitan news desk to specialize in editing stories on New York City’s fiscal crisis. During his tenure at The New York Times, Rood received five prestigious Publisher’s Awards and was part of the metro news staff which received a Pulitzer Prize in 1994 for outstanding coverage of the World Trade Center bombing. He continued to work full-time as a metropolitan news desk copy editor until his hospitalization with cancer last month. In addition to his lifework as a journalist, Rood loved jazz, Vt., and his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling to spend time with family, and he treasured his summer vacations at “”The Bunny”, the family camp on Coates Island which was named after his late mother. Even after decades lived in the fast-paced city of New York, Rood was a self-described “”Essex Junction boy” at heart and was proud of his Vermont heritage. In 1965, after devoting much time to researching the Rood genealogy, he wrote A Sturdy Family Line: The Roods of New England, (a work in progress), a book he had hoped to return to in his retirement. In recent years, Rood became entusiastic about class reunions, both for BHS and UVM, and he often assisted in the planning of these get-togethers. He was even known to contribute some tasteful trombone licks to the reunion gatherings. Rood was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margaret; a brother, Thomas, who was stillborn; a brother, Thomas Jr., who died in 1983; and a grandson, Ethan George Sinker, who died in infancy in 1997. He is survived by his two daughters, Amy Rood Brokering and her husband, Mark of Mill Valley, Calif., and Sabrina Rood-Sinker and her husband, Howard of Minneapolis, Minn.; one grandson, Anthony Jacob Marvin “”A.J.” Sinker of Minneapolis, Minn.; two nieces, Kerry Rood Rourke and her husband, Edward, of Goshen, N.Y. and Laurie Rood-Burns and her husband, Thomas, of Willliamsburg, Va.; three grandnephews, Patrick and Ryan Rourke of Goshen, N.Y., and Patrick Burns of Williamsburg, Va.; his former wife, Joanna Goddard, of Robbinsdale, Minn.; and many cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Junction, with a graveside service following in Fairview Cemetery. On Monday, October 23, 2000, a service honoring Rood’s life and long career at The New York Times will be held at The Times building in Manhattan, N.Y.
