  1. My research interest is the family of Isaac Bowen and Olive Harris buried in the Whipple Hollow Cemetery.

I have found the following information which clarifies the entries for the Bowen family buried in this cemetery.

William Bowen lived in Tiverton, RI and Smithfield, RI and later Northbridge, MA. William was the son of Samuel and Sarah Bowen of Swanzey, MA.

William Bowen married first to Anna Jennings (daughter of John Jennings and Ann Holway) on May 17, 1754. His second wife was named Mary Turpin.

The names of William and Anna Jennings Bowen’s children were:

    1. Lemuel Bowen born March 9, 1755. married Huldah Eddy
    2. John Bowen born April 16, 1757 married Phebe Congdon
    3. William Bowen born March 17, 1761 Tiverton, RI, married Mary Hathaway. This William and Mary are apparently the ones buried in Whipple Hollow Cemetery.
    4. Thomas Bowen born April 16, 1763 married Elizabeth Wing
    5. Jennings Bowen born June 11, 1765 married Armida Akin
    6. Samuel Bowen born March 24, 1768 married Sarah Cole
    7. Sarah Bowen born April 27, 1770 married Joshua Congdon
    8. Remember Bowen born October 15, 1772 married Joshua Jenkins
    9. Anna Bowen born October 15, 1772
    10. Isaac Bowen born Dec 30, 1774 married Olive Harris. Isaac died 7 March 1814. He was preceeded in death by his wife Olive Harris Bowen, who died 24 Jan 1813. Olive died in a fever epidemic which was raging at the time in the country. I believe that Isaac died of similar cause as well. Their son Isaac Jr is also buried in the cemetery.
    11. Anna Bowen born March 24 1778 in Northbridge, MA, married John H. Olin.

  2. Sarah Bowen is my connection to the Bowen Family. She married Joshua Congdon, son Josiah Shove Congdon married Harriet Bates; dau.Harriet Augusta Congdon married Charles Bean, their daughter, Flora Augusta Bean married my grandfather John Adams Dean, and became one of the family’s favorites, “Flora Augusta Bean Dean”.
Thanks to the Internet and brilliant contributors such as yourself, just today I am finally able to take the Bowen connection back to the immigrant. I am still trying to locate more on Ensign William Bowen’s Revolutionary War experience. Thank you so much! Have a good Thanksgiving – regards. Lois Dean

      • Robin, Which daughter of Nehemiah do you descend from and are they part of his family who migrated to the Northwest Territory (Ohio) in the early 1800s?

I look forward to your reply.
